Takara Tomy's Hisashi Yuki has taken to his Twitter account to start hyping their soon to be released Generations figures TG-26 Bumblebee Goldbug and TG-27 Trailbreaker and Hoist. TG-26 Bumblebee Goldbug features some metallic gold paint applications and a blue head, however he does not come with the remolded head found on Hasbro's Goldfire. The TG-27 Trailbreaker and Hoist two-pack also features the line's signature metallic paint and also gives Trailbreaker a G1 toy accurate red visor. Enough of a differences to favor these guys over their Hasbro counterparts? Decide for yourself in the images mirrored below.

Wait, where's the Goldbug head? All I see is the regular Bumblebee head painted blue. :-?

The Takara version was always solicited with a repainted head.

That's why I'm asking. I always thought he had the regular head painted blue and nothing more.

My bad, I was trying to make a point that he doesn't come with the Goldfire head and managed to completely screw that up with a missing "not".

When I have TB and Hoist in bot mode, I push the torso part all the way down so the front bumper is pointing more downward and that panel in front of the head is flush with the hood. Am I doing it "wrong"?

Bumblebug looks very, very good but I have precisely no desire to own it. It'll be a pass for sure.

TG-27 is all kinds of bought. Those two will do very nicely indeed. My only gripe is I wish Trailbreak still had that bloody blue visor. :BANG_HEAD:

@Nemesis Destron, HasTak refers to both Hasbro and Takara, so it's not HasTak that has disappointed you, it's Takara.

And I'm not surprised Takara screwed up again. Their track record this year just goes to show that the guys at Hasbro know what they're doing when it comes to Generations.

Lest we forget the abomination of paint that is Takara Rhinox.

Two tone? Is that the metallic paint apps on his bumpers? If implemented correctly this attempt to simulate the "chrome" effect may be great. Too early to tell if really sucks given that the pics aren't as good as the one's used by Ryan.

If the base figure is painted metallic gold and a separate glossier gold for the bumper then it might come out great(doubtful because it would add to the cost) but if it is just the pvc + the gold shiny type paint then it indeed looks awkward.

I noticed the trend when during the G1 years, Takara/Hasbro used to use a more glossy type of plastic. During TFA, they shifted to that matte like rough finish similar to City Commander. Tomy has been using that type of plastic on recent figs like TG24 and TG25. The rougher dull plastic tends to contrast against the glossy paint...........looking good in some aspects will, yeah, sticking out like a sore thumb. Replicating the G2 Bumblebee type finish would have been better.

Hasbro

Takara

Seems they both tried for their own take on comic-accuracy and/or toy-accuracy, which makes sense since these are comic-inspired bodies and cartoon colors no longer apply anymore (it is a dead cartoon after all, while the comics are for adults). ;)

Added silver is nice on Trailcutter. Hoist provides yet another time for me to say: NO DIFFERENCE WHAT SO EVER!!! And, the darker/metallic color does not count. It's still green and orange with the exact same paint apps.

Takara: Lively blue eyes

Pretty much. Same with eyes. You want blue eyes on Hoist, grab a small paint brush and do it yourself.

Also, Hoist is supposed to have yellow eyes. :P

Ryan's Hoist has blue optics too. :???: The yellow optics is in the toy while in the anime he had blue.

Again, unlike Ryan's pics, which is hi res I assume, the Tomy version will most probably use a different type of PVC which can't be easily distinguished.. Seen the difference between the Orion Pax Tomy and the Hasbro version.

Erm, maybe a difference in actual COLOR doesn't matter to you, but it sure as hell matters to me. A massive difference between the dark emerald green used by Takara and that light lime green used by Hasbro. The same goes for the more yellowish orange used by Takara vs the darker orange used by Hasbro (although perhaps slightly less noticeable).

Takara:

Hasbro:

Biggest difference for the Traildudes are Takara's painted rims and bumper, plus the glossy black instead of flat black.

And different plastics in some cases. Plus a resealable package. It all boils down to taste.

Being that this is a free flowing site for ideas I do beg to differ that added paint apps go miles for a particular figure. Just take a look at TG-23 and TG24.

To which I say, once again, discounting the metallic, there is absolutely no difference in paint apps between the TG-24 set and their Hasbro counterparts.

Uhm M.Prime,I think you mean TG 26 and 27 right? 'cause if you mean TG-24, well on the TG 24 I own, even if you discount the "metal" finish, the set uses a different shade/hue of matte plastic. It is glossier than the domestic USA release.

Yes, you're absolutely correct. With regards to the paint apps, aside from the additional metallic paint used by Takara, there is no difference. But then once the different color plastics are factored in for both the solid and clear bits, standing them side-by-side I'm certain they look like quite different figures indeed. I've done so myself countless times throughout the past few years because for a long time there I was collecting both the Hasbro and Takara versions of nearly every Classics/Henkei Henkei/Reveal the Shield/United/Generations figure released and I can say that once you look at them in hand, even those with only seemingly "minor" differences usually look as different as night and day. That's why I've finally stopped getting most of the Hasbro releases for this line and have decided to stick mostly to Takara's (the exceptions being those which are so wildly different that I'm compelled to get both, like Generations Air Raid :P).

But hey, it's your toy shelf and no one can tell you what's best for your collection. If you want the Hasbro versions and don't want to drop the extra money on the imports for the sake of such differences then no one's going to compel you to do so, but just realize that some of us here such as myself DO see MAJOR differences between them and choose to pay the massive import costs to get these versions of the figures on our shelves. As fenrir72 said, it all boils down to tastes. I know that my wallet would prefer your tastes, but my compulsion to get what I see as the "best" versions of the figures just wouldn't let me go for the Hasbro versions. Then again, I'm certain there are just as many folks (possibly even some in Japan) who actually prefer the coloration of the Hasbro versions. I'm just not one of them.

Paint apps on Hasbro Bumblebee looked SO cheap to me, while the Takara version looks so much better. I'm still not interested though, as I'm happy with my old henkei Bumblebee and never liked the character transforming into a Camaro because of the movie popularity/influence.

Takara Trailbreaker and Hoist don't justify the extra cash at all IMO. That being said, I really like keeping my toys in their boxes though, and american deluxe toys always need to be removed from the blister/card/plastic/whatever... :P

I wish Takara were sticking with the more complete paint schemes they were doing in the United line. If they were, I'd get this new Bumblebee too, but sadly it's a mix of pretty gold metallic paint and plain yellow plastic. It just doesn't look right to me at all.

Hehe, thanks :). It's something I've given a LOT of thought to over the years ever since I first started collecting seriously and discovered the differences, both subtle and striking between various releases all the way back to Beast Wars (my favorite line) back when I was attempting to get the "most show accurate" versions of each and every figure/character available (even resorting to doing painting and eventually, even modding and kitbashing) to do so and then moved onto also getting each and every Beast Wars figure released anywhere that I could get my hands on (aside from the single color chrome lucky draws like the solid gold and solid silver variants, they just don't do it for me, although the nifty black variants with diverse paint apps do :P).

For obsessive collectors like me, I part with money more easily than I can talk myself into going with the more convenient and/or less expensive option. But I'm not everyone and we all pretty much seem to have the same thing in common: we collect toys, toys and more TOYS :D!

And yes, there have also been MANY times where I have felt that Hasbro's release was better than Takara's based on paint and/or plastic colors used. Takara is certainly not immune from my scrutiny. They're just more often than not the versions I prefer.

The Tomy versions cost more. Hurts my pockets but I keep on getting back for more  (must be a closet masochist)

But seriously.............I'm also finicky with imports 'cause I gotta eat too  . Skipped the new MP seeker line and the cars and just got MP Tomy Convoy and Soundwave ( and the cassettes). Still on the fence for Soundblaster and TG-23 has got me eating Scooby Snacks for nearly 2 months already. D@mn pvc crack..........so addicting. :P

Only time I can complaint where the Hasbro version was superior was the EZ collection Meister. Aside from a bit whiter plastic, Tomy ditched the blue apps on his visor............. #-o (though the source I got him from, the set was already opened for inspection........kind of disappointing).

Appreciate the reference quote.

And different plastics in some cases. Plus a resealable package. It all boils down to taste.

Being that this is a free flowing site for ideas I do beg to differ that added paint apps go miles for a particular figure. Just take a look at TG-23 and TG24.

This time around Hasbro is about on par at the price point. Unlike the Go! series of Beast Hunter toys where you have remolds, different paint apps and better stability with some of the figures I was OK with getting them. Here it's just a few extras that are subtle and not needed. I just happen to like the look of Hasbro's Generations this time around. It's nice to have a box but I have been down this road so many times that I really want to simplify. I stand by my statement because it's what I said...and what I want.
