What happened to the amazing bio that we saw on the box in previous images?

So we really have no idea who his wavemate is yet?

If he has none, he'd be the first lone "Year of the _____" figure since Year of the Dragon Ultimate Optimus Prime.

Looks nice but as someone else has already said, it seems strange just being a solo release

Lack of paint apps make this a very dull looking figure.

It isn't necessarily a solo release, we just haven't heard/seen anything on it's wavemate...

Indeed, they really missed a trick, not painting designs onto the translucent forearms, that would've looked really nice.

I like it. This'll be the first "Year of the" release I'll be getting since YotS Omega Supreme.

I do think a deeper, maybe metallic navy blue, a few spots of yellow or gold, and a faction symbol on the chest would have improved the look, though.

So you're gonna buy it now? Its already available: http://www.robotkingdom.com/tfpeyotmop.html

And that 120$ + shipping listed above will be the cheapest price for this thing.

Is it not going to be available at TRU? If not, then that may change things a little. :-/

It might be but it will be more expensive, it will pretty much end up as the same price as if you bought it and shipped it from the asia online distributer I linked to. Or is there an other reason you want to buy it from toysrus as opposed to online?

More expensive buying in store at TRU than ordering from RK plus shipping from Hong Kong? I wouldn't expect it to be, but if that ends up being the case, then I guess maybe I won't be getting it. Has an MSRP been confirmed? Sorry, I have not read all the posts here.

Basically, if it's $100 or less in store, then I'll pick it up. $120 plus shipping changes the tune a little. :HEADHURTS:

I can assure you it will be more than 120$ US at retail. RK has always been the cheapest option for Platinum editions. Platinum Soundwave and Optimus are 119 and 105$, while they are 190 and 180$ at TRU.

So while we do not know the exact amount, the RK prices do confirm the price range (which would make him between 150-200$ at TRU, not less). It is currently cheaper to buy Platinum Soundwave off RK than at TRU right now. And its gonna be the same for Primal.

So basically, it is surely above 120$. Sorry to burst your bubble. But you being the only person so enthusiastic, I was pretty sure you werent aware of the price.

lol Not really so enthusiastic. I just said I liked it and planned on getting it and had a few ideas that I thought would improve it. It was never going to replace the G1 Optimus I had as a kid or anything.

No, I was not really aware of the price. Was just assuming it would be close to the price of the Platinum Supreme Starscream from a while back. No biggie. No burst bubbles.

Thanks for letting me know, though. ;)

Am I a jerk because I think this looks cool? Or just a sucker?
As Hellscream said above, some symbols in gold or silver would have looked really cool painted on his translucent forearms.
All that being said, there is no way in hell I'm shelling out that kind of cash for this beast. I've survived all this time with out the OG release, I think I'll survive without this one.

Not a jerk, theres really nothing too wrong with this guy aside from the price, its a fun mold and a colour scheme that has thematic sense. And I feel its too bad, because if it was at a reasonable price, we could have a nice debate on its merrits and faults.

Wow, they really did cheap out on this one. There's only like five spots that have been painted and in small amounts, either black, silver, or a tiny bit of red on his crotch. I might have been a little bit more forgiving if he had a painted blue head like on the box I'd be more forgiving, but since they couldn't even be bothered to do that it's hard to be excited by this at all. Hey Hasbro, I'd give you $20 for a red and blue Optimus Minor. No, really.

As for getting this from Robot Kingdom, it cost US$50 to ship this to the USA (or to me anyway) at the cheapest. I really doubt this will go for US$170 at TRU (probably more like US$130, I expect the price to be closer to Starscream than G2 Prime) so RK doesn't really seem like a viable option for most people.

What are you using to come up with that number? From what I can tell, this will be released between 150$-190$. Look at these facts:

RK YOTG Soundwave for 120

TRU YOTG Soundwave for 190

RK YPTG Prime for 105

TRU YOTG Prime for 180

RK YOTG Primal for 120

Using these facts as predictors, we are a looooooooooong way from Primal being Starscream prices at TRU.

And while RK might not be viable, it is a cheaper option for shipping YOTG Soundwave than buying it off TRU.com.

Here is a question when has it EVER happened that a platinum release was more expensive at RK (before shipping ) than at retail in the States? Because that is what you are suggesting and I just dont see anything to back up that hope. Mind you, I would be glad to know you are right, but I am not getting my hopes up when looking at the evidence before me.

Perhaps, but I can get them at bbts for less, and only pay $5 in shipping, so it seems to be the best option for us(me) here in the US...

Thats discounted. We were referring to the retail MSRP in the states since we are wondering how much Primal will cost when released in the states.

Fair enough, I hadn't clicked on them to realize that (though my point still technically stands, cuz they're cheaper than retail now, you just have to wait and hope he doesn't sell out ;) )

I hope you realize I'm talking about YOTH Starscream and not MP Starscream. It's only with YOTG that they've slashed the prices so much. I only raised the price to $130 to entertain the possibility of a higher TRU price.

RK YOTH Starscream for US$110 (The current price is discounted)
TRU YOTH Starscream for US$110

RK YOTH Optimus Prime for US$130 (Current higher price is a later warehouse find restock)
TRU YOTH Optimus Prime for US$130

Pretty sure the prices were similar for YOTD and YOTS as well.

And while RK might not be viable, it is a cheaper option for shipping YOTG Soundwave than buying it off TRU.com.

It's only US$100 on TRU.com right now plus free shipping. It may not be the original MSRP, but if RK can slash the price then so can TRU.

When did I suggest anything at all like that? I even raised the price on YOTM Primal just to concede that the price may be higher. The real fact is we've seen prices at RK both the same and lower on YOT figures so it's reckless to state that YOTM Primal will definitely be higher and by how much.

Lower than RK? I doubt it. But the same or slightly more? That I'll believe. YOTM Primal is a pretty simple figure, that's why I compared his pricing to YOTH Starscream. If they do sell him in the US$180 range then that's even more insane than the YOTG prices.

Thanks for the reply, I totally get it now. Ok, so just this year is insane then (and come on TRU, why did you have to make a deep discount during the middle of my argument :-x ). I guess the dissapointing sales will make them rethink their pricing strategy and bring it back to the price point of previous years like YOTH Starscream.

Thanks again for the reply!

Somehow this figure speaks to me. Even if it a little on the pricey side, I think I'll pick it up.

Will fit in nicely with the others on the Prime Selves.

A toy like this would need some serious customizing. These untraditional, Year of the ___ toys are starting to grind my gears. :-x

Yeah, remember when the first two came out, and how there was so much effort put into o/p and omega, now they're just petty cash-grabs >:oP

The first one was just as much a cash grab:

Can't say that I remembered him entirely, though, you are right about it, I wonder what happened after that to get them to work so hard on o/p and o/s and then do nothing for everyone that came after Image

I don't know. Predaking was kinda dope.

Edit: Wait, sorry he was just a Platinum, not YOT.

Platinum Omega Supreme and Prime Ultra Magnus were the only two with real efforts. Meaning serious paint aps and major remoldings.

The effort put into Omega seemed to be at least related to his appearance in the WFC video game that was available and being promoted at the time.

Yeah he seems far more the exception to the rule when you think about it. More like he was a standard western release platinum figure and not necessarily a YOT figure for the asian market.

Bad news, its available online now at american retailers and the price is between 130$ and 150$ plus shipping.

BBTS preorder for 145$ read em and weap

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/prod ... ode=retail

There is also TF Source who is charging a bit less but still within my predicted price range with a price of 130$

http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/11227/

But that wont get you free shipping since its below 150$ (thank the Lord!)

Yeah, feels like he was meant to be a 'generations' release 'til some d|ckhead decided they could make it an exclusive :-x

Preeeeetty sure that figure was always gonna be a Platinum Edition since Generations doesn't exactly have a history of releasing non-CHUG molds from nine years before in premium colors and tooling.

Yes, it makes sense that it was platinum. But more of the standard platinum kind (like the dinobots, platinum ultra magnus and predaking) and not necessarily a Chinese Zodiac edition.

But the Chinese New Year ones tend to be a big Optimus toy and a big companion piece (barring the Dragon and Monkey years). What better big companion piece to go with the Energon Optimus mold than Energon Omega?

Thats not true, nothing accompanied YOTDragon Optimus. Omega was the second year of this and the trend wasnt cemented yet. In retrospect they gave that Omega a lot more effort and chose to retool him rather than simply giving a new deco which they did for the 2 years following. So what I am saying is that he doesnt fit the mold the past 2 years (and probably this one) did. So, to me, he would have made more sense as a standard platinum reissue which sees a tad bit more effort.

I dunno, it still feels like it was lined up to be in the gen line, maybe part of the foc line, but never made it to fruition; just because it had a nicer coat of paint slapped on it, doesn't mean that it was never originally intended to be retail release >:oP

Nicer coat of paint or not it's not even a Generations toy. It's an Energon toy. Outside of the GDO weirdness (which was like a precursor to the Platinum Edition line), Generations doesn't use molds from non-CHUG lines, especially ones that were long dead for nine years.

So is that an actual rule? Just because they haven't, doesn't mean they can't - especially if they wanted to treat us to an wfc omega without making a new mold;

Other than Omega and Ultra Magnus, did any Platinum figures get any retooling (other than "for safety reasons" stuff on G1 reissues)?

Yup, the platinum Dinobots did:

And Perceptor got some new stuff too:

There was no safety stuff changed to the G1s from their original Hasbro release.

And Platinum Predaking got an exclusive Sword (redeco of BH Starsabre) that never came with previous reissues of him:

These last two arent necessarily tooling but show that there was more to these reissues than a mere deco change.

Do you own the mold at all? I do (passed up rid Scourge for that piece of junk :BANG_HEAD: ) I don't really wanna crush your dreams, but first find out if the electronics have been gutted - I honestly don't remember - but even if they aren't, I can't really recommend it at that price, unless you really want it |:|
