I take it he was given one by Lego/Hasbro?
I wonder if "I'm close friends with Hasbro" CrimevsCrime and chums were given one to review?

Anyway, if Dan and other legit YouTubers get them, we'll probably be able to see how legit they are as they will announce that they received a review/promotional copy.

He said on his most recent Friday Twitch live stream he got it from Hasbro and he's unboxed Hasbro's promotional boxes before (not just Transformers though he did get a box of Legacy stuff from Pulse a few weeks ago). He also isn't a reviewer, he's a collector and figure photographer and part time toy adjacent pop-culture historian. A couple years ago he turned his Toy Galaxy channel into a place where he uploads videos on the history of various movies, TV shows, comics, cartoons and other things that got toy lines or were so bad their toys were never released. Meanwhile his Toy Galaxy Too channel is where he now does figure stuff, usually unboxings or his quarterly 10 favorite figure purchases. Why Hasbro would send him free swag probably has a lot to do with him having over 324K subscribers TG (plus another 25K on TGT) making him one of the bigger independent toy channels on YouTube if not the biggest, not to mention nearly 37K followers on Instagram.

He's caused me to have a flashback or two. Really good stuff and fairly well researched.

Yet that's what he implicitly claims when he thanks Lego and Hasbro 'for an early look.' Doesn't pass muster.

Pretty sure he is using the fact that others got the set officially early to justify his other works, if he's above board this time, surely his others are above board too, right?
Either way, I am excited for this and plan to try to get him

What Hasbro's PR team cares about is view counts and subs, factory theft isn't their department.

Yes, he has the most views for Transformers content on YouTube and is already on influencer lists for these topics, which is why he also got a sneak peak by Paramount for their Rise of the Beasts unveiling.
Also, this isn't a stolen copy, and the toy isn't out, so there are less options as to how he may have gotten it.

I get that, but the other stuff is supposedly stolen. So, are we to believe he's legit with Hasbro who would have to have some inkling of how he's getting his stuff?

I think we have to take it as a case by case basis and just stick with the facts. let's not assume anything other than what we know.
Remember, so far, his legitmacy with new stuff is only linked to licenced content and he gets contacted by PR firms, so he's twice removed from Hasbro with this particular Lego set.
He probably gets similar e-mails to the ones we (Seibertron) gets. While we get official behind the scenes look at stuff, it isn't form Hasbro proper but from an independent PR company Hasbro's own marketting team outsourced. Some folks at Hasbro may be aware of what PVP does, but the third party PR firm is not. They are paid to get the most buzz for certain things and will do that assignment. If it means contacting PVP, then that's what they will do.
If you want, I can make it simple. If it's stuff others get at the same time, then odds are it's legit. If it's stuff no one else gets and there is no proper documentation (I.E. a box) then it isn't.

There's plenty of folks with it, have been for at least a week. But, none of them are as funny as Dan and Toy Galaxy. I'd wager it's their production values that's holding them up.

Not to derail this any further, because I do so tire of these PvP conversations, but these seem pertinent.

Have you ever contacted their PR team? Gotta be proactive about this sort of thing sometimes. Send them an email every time you upload a review, eventually they'll catch on. At my old job with Tomopop we would always send our review links to the companies that made them, even if they didn't send them to us. At our height we were even getting free stuff from BBTS and HLJ (which is how I got my TT Titan Metroplex). Then our sister site Destructoid got sold and we were shut down by the new parent company, I really miss those days.
If you are a blogger and are interested in any of our Hasbro brands or products, please send your request in writing to hasbrobrandpr@hasbro.com.
