Will we finally get the official Dinobots we deserve?

So, SS leader dinobots will finally be the budget MP figures we had all waiting for. Especially if there's no "voyager with armor" gimmick involved. If they do make them, it will sure be on the course of 2 years minimum in order to have the time to make them all and leave leader slots for other characters.

If this is the case, it would be awesome if he comes packaged with Ravage, Rumble, Frenzy and Ratbat to reflect the scene in the movie where Soundwave sends out all of his cassettes to attack Blaster, though I suppose if they did that it would probably bump up the price to more than an average Voyager?

They could also do the same thing with Blaster. Have a Leader set of a Voyager Blaster ($30) and 2 cassette packs ($10 each, so $20).Munkky wrote:Autobot N wrote:Maybe that Soundwave we saw with the leaked Thrust and Cyclonus is a SS 86 figure (though I'd prefer Blaster, personally).

First-Aid wrote:Leader Slag? Not too much different than Voyagers. If' I'm not mistaken (and I might be...my brain is sludge from studying so much), the voyager figs are about the same size as the leaders; the leaders though have the "extras" (Astrotrain has additional armor, Prime has his trailer, Shockwave had his boogie board, etc). That means that the only reason the Slag will be a leader class is because of the Daniel figure. He probably will be about the same size as the Leader Optimus or SLIGHTLY bigger, but no considerably bigger.
Depends how articulate the Daniel figure is. I think I had seen the initial leaker for it say that it would be like the Paratrooper from Shockwave's set where it wasn't transforming or anything, but had some articulation. This could mean Slag could be maybe a head taller than Prime and dense, or he could be mostly hollow to get taller if need be. If we see Grimlock at SDCC (because I feel like that'll be the big ticket reveal for Studio Series this year) we could get a sense of how big the Dinobots will be

Probably because vinyl doesn't get murdered by magnets or snarl up into eldritch knots.ZeroWolf wrote:Oh I know Blaster is cassette but I think vinyl sells better these days
I'm guessing that the Leader price point will be used to make the Dinobots not only tall (ideally at least a head above CW Optimus) but also give them their full arsenals.

We have a seperate thread for the Netflix subline which i think is the thrust here.
@D-Max look on the brightside, we're at least getting Jolt and Dino.

Sounds like a plan. It’s just kind of jarring for what’s been a movie figures thread to suddenly be overrun by G1.

I am so anxious to see the aesthetic of these '86 movie figures... While creating a 3D version of a cartoon would seem easy, how simplified and cartoon-ish will they go?
Or does anyone think they may just take figures that could've been released with ER, use movie-based paint-apps and put them in SS packaging? I hope not, I would hate that.
Maybe simplified (cartoon-accurate) molds and even paint apps will allow a leader class fig to be substantially larger than a current voyager?
Either way it's going to be real interesting to see what they pull-off (or don't pull-off).
Also, for me personally, it's going to be interesting to see if these SS figures are good enough to have me move even further away from the MP and 3P lines.

a) still don't know why a 35th anniversary is so important for practically anything, it's not a 25th or anything
b) There are still 4 potential Bees and 3 potential Primes to do, plus a Galvatron and Megatron. Still got plenty there to work with.
c) Then don't make as many G1 guys. If you only need like 12 slots, put them in WFC. G1 does not need all the room.
d) next year is the DotM 10th anniversary, so if anything we should actually complete that cast which includes some notables without toys, some more weird designs like they did with the constructicons (who sold like hotcakes), and also 10th is an actual thing (5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 75, 100 are actual celebration years)
Posted by Mindmaster on July 12th, 2020 @ 1:09pm CDT
Speaking of, if there’s one guy who needs updating most, why ain’t it Galvatron??? Titans Return was so close to perfection but was ruined by the Titan Master gimmick and the lack of a port on the side of his arm for optional side-mounting of his cannon.

I wonder what we could see for DOTM’s 10th anniversary other than filling in some of the gaps in SS. We got the MPMs for 07’s tenth and SS Devastator for ROTF’s tenth, so maybe we’ll see something big. My first thought would be the Driller, but I know how feasible that would be.

Well in a way it kind of makes sense. While there are still bayverse and beeverse movie figures to be made, they are running out of them. Padding the line a bit to keep it running untill the next theatrical release kind of makes sense. That being said, I still think putting these in the studio series line seems a bit off personally. However, if they are to be as movie accurate as possible, then they ultimately wouldn't have the same level of sculpted details that out generations line have been having. Kinda like how modern Tamara MP's focus on toon accuracy and don't quite mesh as well with the older masterpiece line.
Either way, if the dinobots are AT LEAST as big as Optimus or bigger, then I don't care if they sell them as Go-bots the Space Knights of M.A.S.K. I would still be happy to get them.
But ya also give us the rest of the bayverse dinobots. Horrible movie, but wicked cool dinobots.

Actually I think it's more of a cynical having your cake and eating it too. 86 movie figures? Beast wars figures? In the same year? It pleases both halves of the fan base that won't stop going on about it
Plus I think it's a good way to make sure people don't balk at the idea of the Transformers prequel movie being included in Studio Series if they can point to the 86 cartoon movie being there. Afterall I think the prequel is the next tf movie we'll get.

WFC only has so much room, especially if the nostalgia is expanding to other franchises. And most of these '86 figures seem to be Voyagers and Leaders, which there are fewer slots available for.. Meanwhile the only non-redeco Leaders left for Studio Series are Devcon (a one-off character with no lines, although he has a cool unique design) and The Fallen, and most of those left who would fill Voyager slots are minor...D-Maximal_Primal wrote:AllNewSuperRobot wrote:Studio Series is Studio Series. But I don't think it's just slots. I think distribution is also playing a big role in this, possibly even bigger than slots. There's no denying that WFC's distribution is a trainwreck. Meanwhile Studio Series seems to be doing relatively fine distribution-wise, so there's less fear of the milestone stuff getting held up in the pipeline.
Also, any fifth year is a celebration year anymore. And Hasbro has been celebrating 35th anniversaries across more than just Transformers.
I do hope that once they get the '86 movie cast out of their system SS goes back to purely Bayverse toys, though.
Oxymoron alert!Autobot N wrote:I wonder if this isn't an attempt to transition Studio Series to something more like Marvel Legends or Black Series. Have Studio Series be the line for accurate, gimmickless figures from all corners of the franchise (G1, BW, Movie, UT, etc),
Nah, I'm pretty sure it's just a case of capitalizing on Studio Series' better distribution to squeeze the '86 characters out on time, justified under "Well, that was also a movie so it totally counts"Autobot N wrote:and have Generations as sort of a Prime Wars type line where they experiment with new things, and bring new ideas to old characters.
If any line would make sense to transition to Marvel Legends style, it's the main Generations line. But A. The G1 characters need the new toys more than the later lines do, at least right now and B. Trying to do a Marvel Legends style line with Transformers is harder, since they're more expensive and take up more shelf space.

They are also MP scaled so apple and oranges mostly.
That's why if those SS leader Dinobots can be "Budget MP", it will make many, like me, happy.

Skipjack is a redeco of the previously released Voyager Class Rampage, and as a constructicon can form Devastator's leg. This would allow you to be closer to forming Devastator as seen in Revenge of the Fallen, as Skipjack is part of the constructicons who make up the gestalt.
