Anyway. This set looks good in green. I'm still not in the Maketoys camp for Devy, but it doesn't look like anyone who is getting it will be disappointed. It is most impressive and IMO, pulls off the G1 Devy look very well .

True, but a post from Sidecutter (Captured Prey I believe) states that he spoke to MakeToys and they had not announced a box set or any of the kind to anyone at that time.

Their website makes reference to a set of six.
This is what google translate came up with anyway:
We decide to meet the demands of the lot · · · but we proceed in the slight little later than originally planned the release of the Giant series has our popular, to launch a green color after the yellow color beneath. Green color is scheduled to be released in the set of all six species.

He is lovely, but I already have Herc and I'm happy making Landfill.
EDIT:
Something about idea of the original mega-brute throwing down against a smaller yet smarter doppleganger tickles me.

Yes, the official announcement has not been made directly by Maketoys, but that with emails and postings from different sites, that they will most likely release the green sets in the same 2-figure boxes, but just sell them altogether.

Oh yeah? Well why don't you get your over-sized lanky ass and your ugly mess of a gun down here and say that to my face tough guy? What are ya gonna do, amaze me with your parts-forming? Bedazzle me with you Unicron trilogy style? Those non-existant kneecaps and elbows special to you? I suppose some breaking parts, an ugly left foot and an over-sized, gimmicky cement drum couldn't hurt either right? Yeah, I bet a bunch o' your chumps are gonna get that upgrade set just to end up makin' ya look more like me too. You may be big but I got style chump!
[too seriously]
Seriously though. This is like class warfare or something. The people who spent more money to get Hercules think they have the right to laugh and look down upon those who got Giant instead and those who've gotten Giant say that the people who bought Hercules are stupid with money. Look, both sets have their pros and cons, I'm getting the Giant admittedly because it's cheaper (which is a pro) but also because to me the individual robots are just plain better, heck for some people (myself included) the large size of Hercules would even be considered a con. I don't really think it's right to say either is inferior, regardless of price or size, because it's ultimately not only about price but also peoples personal tastes.

Btw, for those who mentioned the tunnel vision. Its not like they have eyes in their alt modes to begin with, so the whole concept is sorta flung out the window. Next, the protection to a vital part that is the head is great considering the mayhem that would occur around Devastator.
Posted by Vicalliose on April 19th, 2012 @ 7:08pm CDT
Pretty much the same here, except for the fact that I can't afford Herc. Also I actually started to prefer Giant's heads as well, even the eye colors. Scrapper, Long Haul and Hook all getting the red eyes, a contrast to the more subdued nature of the three compared to the rest of the group. Scrapper being more psychotic and Bonecrusher a destructive brute, they get the blue eyes. Finally you have Mixmaster, who gets yellow eyes because... he's a scientist... I guess.MINDVVIPE wrote:From all the polling it seems more people like Herc, but then, I'm sure a lot had already started investing in him, and just couldn't think about giant being better coz it would just suck. I started out liking Herc more, but the more I saw (and I can afford both), Giant looks better in regards to the nice beefy toughness, and overall porpotions, and I like the individual bots a lot more too. Herc's individual bots do have some awesome faces though, and are, to me, the only REAL pro that has me liking Herc.

The variation in eye colour only helps support the fact that they are a naturally occuring life form with random elements, and not somehow all forced to have predetermined visual similarities. And ya, in contrast to the blue, the guys with red look so evil, especially Long Haul. Sucka doesn't even need guns with those fists.

Amen!
I'd personally love to have both Giant and Hercules, but money has become a major issue. So I made a couple of lists (guys love lists) and I came to a decision on which set I'd be spending my dosh on. If I find I have some spare money some time I'll snap up the other set. If not, I'll be happy with my decision. This is a true win-win scenario.

If you like Giant, good for you. I admittedly like the look more that I'm seeing some nice color shots of the green, but I still think TFC won this one.
1. Integration - Hercules is perfectly integrated. Giant is much messier with the extra parts and all. I hate those little trailer forearms.
2. Elegance - an extension of Integration, Hercules is much smoother in his combined form. And he doesn't have hook genitalia either... or a club foot.
3. Proportions - I don't get people who say Giant is better proportioned. Have you seen his upper arms? They're way off scale. And that head is so small...
So I'm a Herc guy. And I don't dis Giant because I'm jealous, or I'm in too deep with Herc, as some Giant lovers have implied of those in the Herc camp. I just prefer the Hercules' aesthetic, and more easily overlook Hercules' flaws than I do Giant's. Those of you who are looking forward to Giant, I wish you well. Enjoy your toy. I'm sticking with the real giant.

I like the look of both, each has pros and cons. I hope to be able to afford Giant, I probably could have bought Hercules, but I felt it was too expensive. If I get Giant, I think I'll like it. If you too have, or are planning to purchase one of these 3rd party sets, I hope you enjoy whatever one you get, and if you get both...well then I hate you and you're a terrible human being Kidding on that last part.

So parts forming for individual bots is okay (Exgraver's Shovel, Dr.Crank's Crane, and Madblender's Drum), but not for the whole combiner? (Also note that Hercules also has the chest wing accessory, so he's just as guilty in that regard)
2. Elegance - an extension of Integration, Hercules is much smoother in his combined form. And he doesn't have hook genitalia either... or a club foot.
Cub foot? Herc looks like he has a worse case of that than Giant!
3. Proportions - I don't get people who say Giant is better proportioned. Have you seen his upper arms? They're way off scale. And that head is so small...
Granted, but with robots proportions have a little give and take. Plus at least Giant can move his shoulders!

I prefer Herc's arms admittedly. But it's a detriment to the individual figures. This also makes Giant more G1 acurrate for those who care.megatronus wrote:1. Integration - Hercules is perfectly integrated. Giant is much messier with the extra parts and all. I hate those little trailer forearms.
I don't really get why hook's hook is down there, I don't think it needs to be or anything. As for the club foot... OK thanks for making me look that up, I nearly lost my dinner, but I really have no idea what you're talking about.megatronus wrote:2. Herc fits the bill better with that left foot of his, that's one of the big things that bugs me about Herc in fact.Without treatment, persons afflicted often appear to walk on their ankles, or on the sides of their feet.
Idunno that it's "better" proportioned. It just looks more badass and beefy. More personal aesthetics type-of-thing.megatronus wrote:3. Proportions - I don't get people who say Giant is better proportioned. Have you seen his upper arms? They're way off scale. And that head is so small...

Hercules is just plain better. I would eventually like to get Giant, but only for my G2 shelf. Honestly In my opinion Giant only has 3 things going for him:
1. In scale with Fansproject combiners.
2. Mixmaster’s superior robot and alt mode.
3. Cool G2 repaint in yellow.
Now for the things that suck about Giant:
1. Hook and Scavengers ugly yellow heads.
2. Shovel and crane parts on the arms instead of their backs is not G1 accurate.
3. Lame “arm becomes trailer” feature.
4. Annoying “Maketoys” decals applied in the package.
5. Long Haul has “wings”.
6. Another opportunity to give us a purple barrel wasted.
7. Devy head clearly visible in Hook’s vehicle mode. WTF ???
And the upcoming TFC and Crazy Devy upgrades tackle all the flaws:
1. Anime accurate Devy head.
2. Treads in proper place in combiner mode.
3. G1 accurate gun.
4. The legendary purple barrel.

I would normally agree with you about the trailer arms, and the head visibility on hook, but when the end result of the combined mode looks so much better to me, in regards to presence, all those little things don't bother me. The trailer parts aren't really that big of a deal. They could easily be giant purple hands, pretty much the same thing - extra parts that require detachment and reattachment for combined mode. The head on hook just looks like part of the vehicle, and not like you can see the face or anything. The rest is all aesthetic differences that matter to some and less for others. But again, when considering the combined mode, Giant has thick shoulders, and then smaller fore arms. His Torso gradually narrows at is reaches the waist, unlike the sudden change in Hercs. And I've always thought Hercs head was horrid in its silhouette. It seems like a square, with a thin face in the middle.
The trailer arms make jackhammers too. That is so freaking cool. You can actually have the whole crew appear to be working on a site in their bot and alt modes.
This is all just to keep the discussion alive and kicking, haha.

I admit that my use of 'club foot' was off... generally I just think of Giant's left foot as too huge.
It comes down to me just liking Herc better. I feel he's more streamlined and integrates ALL the parts (even the chest piece ones) very well into the figures.
I love this discussion. It will never end, as Devy allegiances die hard, and we're all just trying to convince ourselves, not each other, of how much we like our choice. Woo-hoo for self validation!
Heck, at least it keeps me entertained!

Not exactly sure what’s so hypocritical about admitting the truth.
1. G1 versions have the crane and shovels on the backs, not the arms. That is FACT not fiction.
2. The trailer becomes arm feature is lame in my opinion. It is just a pointless excuse to try to justify not throwing them in your parts box when not displaying Devy mode. While my opinion that it’s lame might just be an opinion, you can’t deny the FACTS.
3. The treads are in the proper G1 accurate place on Giant. Once again that is a FACT. The unmodified Hercules “treads to forearms” might be innovative, but not G1 accurate. And even though I was giving Giant points for this, I get a hypocritical strike for stating a FACT ???
As far as the Maketoy stickers, it would be nice if they left them unapplied. This would give you the option of leaving it plain or adding on the inevitable Reprolabels sets while keeping the originals mint.
And the purple Barrel just looks cool. That’s probably why the animated cartoon artists rolled with it throughout the cartoon series. It’s like Maketoys didn’t even bother to go on the forums and read peoples #1 complaint about Hercules. Not smart when theyre trying to go head on with TFC.

To my knowledge you cannot take the crane or shovel off their arms and put them on their backs. (Maketoy versions) Theyre permantaly attached. But I cant be 100% sure. I dont own them. I own Hercules which you can put them on either place for preference.
Well I guess paint apps are ok. You can cover them.
I didnt need the trailers. I was happy putting the G1 forearms in my parts box. I prefer less gimmicks. On the other hand The new TFC forearms upgrade doesnt become anything else to my knowledge. Theyre sinply add on parts for Devy mode. No gimmicks for alt mode that add unessecary pegs or holes to the alt modes. And TFC made the treads fix in response to fan feedback.
Which leads me to the purple barrel...
Can you honestly say this color combination doesnt look better than all green ???
Put me at the top of your "s**t list". I consider it a badge of honor.

I was actually referring to Herc's figures. From what I'd gathered they need to be removed when transforming.Rated X wrote:To my knowledge you cannot take the crane or shovel off their arms and put them on their backs. (Maketoy versions) Theyre permantaly attached. But I cant be 100% sure. I dont own them. I own Hercules which you can put them on either place for preference.
Well, they can simply go in the parts box either way...Rated X wrote:I didnt need the trailers.
Breaks up Mixmaster's alt mode pretty well, but in combined form the lack of purple on the other leg is just weird to me, maybe a purple stripe or two would work better. Either way the complaint is rather petty.Rated X wrote:Which leads me to the purple barrel...

My "s**t list" is kinda long, I'm just starting a "barrel list" for this one.Rated X wrote:Put me at the top of your "s**t list". I consider it a badge of honor.

Considering the knock-off Battle Tanker that is floating around (at a 1/3 of the price of the original), I might wait for the inevitable knock-offs of Giant. If a knock-off company can make a Giant at a 1/3 of the price of the original, I might consider it. Time will tell.
I am really liking the thicker robot mode on Giant. The more-Classicsverse robot modes rather than the traditional G1 bot modes is also pretty neat. The rifle on Giant is a masterpiece too. I love that it incorporates all the rifles from the individual figures. The little trailers that become the combined mode arms actually make sense on a construction site since they look like generators to me. Kinda sucks that the combined head couldn't be camouflaged better in vehicle mode. I would have to paint the head on Hook too, but that isn't a problem. Neither is the different colored optics, but a little paint would fix that right up.
Overall, I would very much like to get this guy, but I don't think it is in the cards right now.
