Robot mode isn't too bad, I suppose.
PCC integration is lacking.
Color scheme is very, very bland.

The color scheme disappoints me. It doesn't look like either the Titanium Fallen or the Dreamwave's Fallen's color scheme (they were slightly different; you could tell the DW Fallen has purple in him when he was lit up). Since I have (and still dig) Titanium Fallen this just fell down my list of priorities.
But I'll reserve judgement until the full figure is released. With any luck this is just a limited edition color scheme and the one everyone actually wants will be released later.

If it's the latter, they're pretty much using PCC to make a partsform-tastic duocon.
...I like this idea even more than I want a Fallen. I hope they do make 2 versions because THIS I would get the repaint. In fact; hope they really go down this road and announce more "partners" to pair with standalone PCC guys and salvage Hasbro's FAIL.
TFC has their WWII set, but despite the points for treating PCC like real gestalts, it's only one set. Pairing well with the tanks aside, something is lost if more than one has the exact same team. This way is not only more outside of the box, but looks much easier to explore and produce a bunch of designs than making sets of triple changers.

Yea.
I mean, what's the point here? I don't need PCC integration.

I see it more as a bonus. Like "here's an awesome Fallen figure. And he can work with PCC too, if you like!"

Again, I'll wait for the black repaint.

Honestly, I don't even see the resemblance to The Fallen yet.

Granted, it's not a dead on, striking resemblance, but there are some similarities. Mostly the head.Mkall wrote:Honestly, I don't even see the resemblance to The Fallen yet.

You can tell it's that character, in any case, even if it's not the same design, but based upon it.

I kind of like the thought of taking PCCs to their next logical step, of fully armored bots.
It is not too different that Ultra Magnus, where you have a central bot, and he has armor from a separate structure.
I like that they used the PCC ports so you can, if you want, integrate with some stuff you already have.
I kind of hope they make a slew of guys around this concept.
The only real shame is these are coming out now, and not when PCCs were on shelves at clearance prices.

This reminds me I need to track down some Heavytreads. At CVS, you say?
If the PCCs had come in more sensible colourschemes (with no translucence on the minicon partners) I would have bought every single one of them. As it is, there are some definite gems in the line, and if third parties can make better use of the ports than those dreadful drone super mode limbs there is plentiful fun to be mined here.
Too bed they didn't revisit Superlink Grand Convoy in PCC....

THANK YOU
As for the timing, that's the bane of 3rd Party upgrade sets. Except for a few heads that were natural choices, the time it takes to design and produce these ideas is always after the fact. Best they can do without promising the moon and stars is concept scetches.

For those who still doubt this is a homage to The Fallen: if you click any black and white picture of Mubine page on Maketoy's site, and open the pictures in another window (I'm using chrome), you can see that the pictures are named "fallen_04.jpg (1000-1411)", "fallen_05.jpg (1000x1364)" and so on.
See for yourself:

What is surprising is the colour scheme, and not in a good way. I don't think I'll be getting it in those colours.
Maybe this will be MakeToys' modus operandi: first release a set in seperate packages and in obscure colours, then release the boxset in the generally more desirable/correct colours. Annoying.

Only because we're seeing half of the final product.

And because an alternate function of the set is as a power-up armor of sorts. And as I'm sure we all know, more often than not, if you want to retain articulation, your power armor had better partsform. Non-partsforming power armors tend to restrict articulation, again not always, but more often than not.

Honestly, I think in this case they came up with the idea for the figure(s), designed the altmode, then tacked on a representation of The Fallen to entice fans.

Maybe I am, I'm just going with how it seems to have been done according to my own personal biases on this figure.
Do I think it's a good transforming figure? Absolutely
Do I think it's a good representation of The Fallen, or Megatronus? No I don't
Posted by Gauntlet101010 on April 20th, 2012 @ 11:07pm CDT
I think it's a pretty good theory. The Fallen has nothing to do with combiners and he DOES have an alt mode (revealed in MTMTE), which doesn't really look like this one's alt. mode.

No it's a scratch mold that turns into two upgrades for crappy Hasbro figures.
Well, at least now we know why they made the thing a parts former duocon.
