Mechacon has contacted our news desk. Through their newsletter, they have given us an update on their convention this year. The following is taken directly from their newsletter.
On August 11-13, 2006, the heart of Louisiana's Cajun country welcomes the return of its premiere Japanese Cultural Expo and Anime Convention....
MECHACON 2.0!!!
MechaCon offers anime and mecha fans of Louisiana and neighboring states a chance to gather in a warm and friendly setting to learn more about the culture of Japan and to share in the experience that is the anime fan culture. Easily accessible and conveniently located in Lafayette (along the I-10 corridor between New Orleans and Houston), MechaCon welcomes anime fans and Asian cultural enthusiasts across the south to join us for our second MechaCon weekend.
Located just a mile from the Lafayette Regional Airport, along the banks of the serene Vermilion Bayou in the heart of Acadiana... the Hilton Lafayette, Acadiana's premier full-service hotel and conference center, will again be host to this unique event. The 2006 event is our sophmorel convention and the MechaCon staff is completely dedicated to bringing you yet another spectacular convention experience (hopefully hurricane-free this time). MechaCon is a unique blend, combining the worlds of Anime, Transformers, and Japanese Culture into an enjoyable three-day weekend. Fans of Anime and Transformers will not only be able to enjoy our many panels, viewing rooms, and dealers room, but attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about the history and the culture of Japan through our informative panels and presentations.
All that being said, we heartily welcome you back to MechaCon and if you haven't already, we hope you'll visit our forums (http://www.mechacon.com/forums) and enjoy the full convention experience.
