Does it have poorly chosen green? Yes. And it will take a lot of work to put a nicer shade on it.
Does it have some wonky individual robot modes? Yes. But looking at Scrapper's "elbows" I'm hopeful that it won't be too hard to add a couple of ball joints.
Does it look like it'll be a bitch to put together? Sure does. But will it be worth it? Hell yeah.
Does it cost upwards of 400 dollars? Nope.
And for those of you who like to buy 3rd party, I'm somewhat jealous; it must be nice to be able to drop an extra $300 on something to make sure it's absolutely perfect.

But even then, the third party toys arent perfect. For instance, just look at the head sculpts and tell me which one looks best compared to this:
Do any of these heads:

Nope! Not saying they are inferior, but 400$ still wont buy perfection. Hence why I couldnt care less for those when I have a Hasbro Devy for 150-170$. And plus, he has a great headsculpt. And to the first person to say "but wait, you can buy the upgrade for...", oh yeah like the first thing I want to do when I pay 400$ for a toy is to spend even more to fix it. No thanks!

AMEN to that My Friend!
I don't have the money to buy 3rd party stuff, and even if I did, I like playing with my transformers which obviously involves them being able to transform. I like those that can transform quickly and have a few sacrifices than those that are better but not perfect that take 20 minutes to transform.
I don't buy upgrade kits either because I like the toy the way I get it.
He really is mistransformed, but We all know that he will look much better when the in-hand images from people who actually know how to display him right. I like the fact that he is bigger too, considering he is considered the ultimate combiner.

If you are happy with a Devastator that is plagued with sacrifices made to accommodate 5 year olds and their really cheap parents, then Hasbrostator is for you. it scales perfectly with other large kid size dolls and can tower over little sister's doll house to crash the tea party. But if you want an adult collectible, that scales well with CHUG figures, looks cool, has proper articulation, and a wide variety of upgrades for those who want more, then Hercules is definitely worth the extra money.
This is flamebait, pure and simple. X, you can voice your opinion without offending others. The part I bolded above is certainly unnecessary and stuff like that needs to be omitted in the future.
Just because someone can't afford 3rd party doesn't make them cheap. Just because it was designed with kids in mind doesn't make it cheap. This has always been a line of TOYS, aimed at CHILDREN, made for CHILDREN, we are a distant 2nd place in terms of importance when one designs these items.
You have to stop being so argumentative and antagonistic, X. You're pushing too many buttons and it's not necessary to do so.

Delta Magnus wrote:I'll take individual robots with proper articulation and plastic that isn't see-through over a slightly more accurate headsculpt thank you very much.
You have to play fair, Delta Magnus, your comment assumes that those are the only sacrifices involved. Of course, us all being fans here means we know they arent the same price points but your comment makes the added 300$ trivial. What you mean to say is:
"I'll take individual robots with proper articulation and plastic that isn't see-through for 450$ over a slightly more accurate headsculpt for 150$, thank you very much."

It's not necessary to pepper your posts with things like "cheap parents" and "fool", which do offend people. This is why we can't have nice things.
Oh, and just because the plastic looks thin and hollow, doesn't mean that it is. CW Dead End? You can see light through his hood if you hold him up to a light, but the plastic is dense enough to be quite strong and has no real flex to it. Just because the plastic seems thin doesn't mean that it is or that it's quality is down.
Shajaki's right, until we have it in hand, we can't say what the plastic quality is like. Once in hand, however, if it's bad, then say so. Then you have proof.

How is throwing a few quirky jokes that contain absolutely no profanity into my comments offensive? Are we adults here, or are we 5 year olds? Is there really anyone on this site that is about to break into tears because I made fun of Hasbro Devastator?

In my comment I specifically mentioned “parents of 5 year olds” being cheap. I never attacked Transformers collectors of any income. I stand by my statement about parents being cheap because they know most little boys break their toys.

Newborn babies come right out of the whom with knowledge of G1 Devastator, Metroplex, and other 30 year old characters, right? I think collectors actually have a great amount of influence in the creation of the CHUG lines. Combiner Wars is proof of that. There’s always a kiddie line like RID, TF Prime, Animated, or simplified movie toys released every year for the kids on the shelves in much larger quantities. The reason CHUG still exists in its evolving forms is because of adult collectors. It is my personal opinion that the day we stop buying, CHUG is done.

HTS might sell out on the first round, but then more will show up and saturate the online market. Think SDCC AOE Dinobots. Scalpers learned a valuable lesson. There are so many people on these forums already complaining about Hasbro’s price, who’s gonna spend $30-50 more ?

No one mentioned profanity. I'm not sure why you're bringing that up. You're twisting what I said and the problem is, your twists don't provide you what you need to keep this argument going. No one's about to cry, either. You can make fun of Devastator all you want, others have, it's the people you mention while doing so that's the problem. And you know it. You've already been in trouble several times for this kind of behavior, why continue?

Oh, really? None of the Transformers collectors on this board are parents? None of the casual fans and families that read this message board and website aren't parents? Really? If the posters with kids started lining up to prove you wrong, I'd bet you'd find the number surprising.
Also, we cater to fans, casual fans and non fans with our site and boards. People come here for news and gift ideas, people come here to find out about the movies, parents of 5 year olds (whom you deem cheap) come here with their kids.
The kind of post you put up here could push people away or make them think all Transformers fans think as you do and that's just not the case and your statement was offensive. You could've made the same point without calling the parents of children cheap. How you overlooked the fact that us fans are parents too is baffling. But it also tells me you just want to post attacks towards people and expect nothing in return.

Wow, strawman argument much? That newborn babies line, I'll have to remember that when I'm at a loss for words and want to derail a thread whenever possible. Or, I could just go with facts behind me and let the truth play out. Might give that a try, eh?
As for CHUG being done once we stop buying? Yeah, I believe that's a solid possibility, no one said otherwise though. And Combiner Wars is still simplified enough that kids can enjoy it too. If it weren't for lines such as RID, we wouldn't have the funding for lines such as Combiner Wars. Hasbro uses cheap molds and ideas so the proceeds can fuel others. Kids will always come first and be the most important in Hasbro's eyes. Without kids, this line wouldn't exist.

G1OPT1MU5PR1M3 posted an opinion of just Devastator, not the people buying it. (He did that later on.) You posted an opinion of Devastator (fine, allowed) and mentioned cheap parents buying it (not fine, not allowed) and that's where you crossed the line. You know you did, you know what you did wrong, you just refuse to admit it because it's the hip and cool thing to be fighting the establishment. Problem is, there's such a thing as civil disobedience and you're less than civil in almost all of your interactions on here. So no, my post was not opinion, it was FACT. You can post about an item and your dislike of it, leave people out of it.
I didn't attack you at all, not even once. Point me in the direction of a post in this thread in which I attacked you, personally. Please. Dig it up. Use the search feature and look for my posts. Find me ONE that shows a personal attack against you. You won't find a single one. Not. One.
No one's asking anyone to be dull and robotic, see there again you have to make more out of something than there is... We're asking you (and everyone!) to be polite and respectful towards one another and calling people cheap is not respectful or polite. That's not spicing things up, that's abusing the rules and disregarding others.
You prefer 3rd party over Hasbro's Devastator? That's great. That's your right, that's your personal opinion, you're welcome to it and can even share it. You think parents (that DOES include fans and collectors) are cheap for buying it? Not welcome to share it, keep it to yourself.
I shouldn't even have to explain this to you, you know better, you just choose to do this.

Pics do not always translate to the actual color in the actual fig. wj88 is correct in this. Had that same experience with Tomy Sandstorm. And yes, I'd be following up the Tomy release. They might get the green right but it depends if they go for the TF Encore 20 color or TF Encore 20A color.
And guys, as much as I would like to respect the opinions of others, this is kind of getting stale. Comparing this to a 3rd party product? Jeez! Give it a rest. You pay what you get for! Did you compare a $ 400 + to a $ 150(?)+ official product?
And if you have no actual intention of buying it and go on a rant about scale etc, why not just put it in your sig that you are "NOT in Favor of Scale" that does not fit your preference. Does it have to be reminded every single time to the rest of the universe?
P.S. I like the Maketoys version too. Don't own one but it does look better than Hercules.

Personally, even as someone on the record as saying he's not buying it, I do hope it sells out day one. Is it perfect? No. I think they are too large, and I think some of the individual bots are under articulated. But still, I think it is a damn fine looking toy overall, and anyone still in the market for a Devastator (or anyone who doesn't mind owning multiple versions of him) will hopefully get much enjoyment out of him.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Also, in some of the posts recently, I've seen some pot shots from both sides reguarding pricing of Hasbro vs. Third Party... as if that has anything to do with the quality of the toy that this thread is about.
To paraphrase, and without naming any names:
"Enjoy your cheap Hasbrostator, I will stick with my third party version, thank you, and know I paid for quality!"
"Well sorry not all of us are super rich members of the 1% who can afford to shell out hundreds of dollars at a time!"
Really, both sides of that are ugly, and I'd rather not see it. I'm not a mod or anything, so there is no official weight behind that statement, but take this as a personal plea from one Transformers fan to the others in the community.
You know why third party toys are so much more expensive, and Hasbro ones are cheaper? Because Hasbro can produce them in bulk and third parties have to operate on a much smaller scale. I guarantee that if Hasbro produced Hercules or Green Giant, they would each be at least half the price. And if a third party produced a toy similar in scale to Combiner Wars Devastator, even with it's simpler design it would probably cost more than either of the third party offerings. So to me, comparing costs of Hasbro toys to third party ones is akin to comparing apples and oranges.
And as for who the sort of person who can afford to throw down for third party figures is... Well, I am a proud owner of both Green Giant and the Fansproject Stunticons, both bought during a period of extended unemployment during which I did not collect any unemployment benefits. So basically, zero income. So I am not a rich man. (Fortunately, I finally found some work about a month ago... Good thing! Savings were getting a bit thin! I was worried I'd have to pass up the Combiner Wars figures I did want!) But I wanted both of those figures, and at the time it looked like Hasbro was never going to do them, so I looked at my savings and found a way to make it happen, and preyed I'd find work before funds dried up completely. (Which I did, thank god! )
Yet other people, even if they do have income coming in, may not be able to justify such expenses. Perhaps they are trying to save more. Perhaps they have families and feeding their children is more important then buying themselves a toy. Perhaps they just honestly think $400.00 is too much for a toy even if they can afford it. It doesn't make that person any less of a Transformers fan or their opinion any less valid.
To sum up, the lower cost of Hasbro toys is not reflective of the quality put into them. Rather, it is reflective of Hasbro being a much larger company that can produce things at a lesser cost. Not everyone who buys Hasbro is a cheap person. And not everyone who buys third party is a rich elitist pig who looks down on everyone else.
So... well... can't we all just get along and enjoy Transformers toys together?
Posted by prjkt on April 11th, 2015 @ 8:45pm CDT
First: I have Green Giant, who's about the perfect height to face of with the standard CW figures.
Second: Size. As impressive as he is, I'm not sure I have any space for him.
However, he is an official release - and I'd really like to support these in the hopes that other big figures get produced down the track. Perhaps a Titan class Omega Supreme for Devs to face off against in a couple of years? (Based on the ~2 years between Metroplex and Devastator.)
Not fussed too much about "missing" articulation of the robot modes, as I'll be sticking to combined mode for display for the most part.
Whether or not I'll get him will depend entirely on price and availability. The current rumours here in Aus state the local big box retailers may have him on sale for the June/July toy sales, if not physically present, probably for the "Layby for Christms" promos they run. If that's the case I'll almost certainly grab him as $40-$50 a month won't be an issue (depending on local pricing, which is yet to be announced)

Indeed. I may not have a place in my collection for a Titan Devastator, but I'd love a Titan Tripticon to face off against Metroplex, and perhaps also Omega Supreme, Fort Max, and Scorponok. Basically, bring on the city-bots! (No idea where the hell I'd find the space for 'em all, though! I barely found a spot for Metroplex! )

I barely found a spot for Metroplex! )
