Love the truck mode. See how easy it is to make Prime look good without having to resort to tacky rice-boy flames?

Ironhide was the redneck.
What Bay actualy said, was that they could not properly film a red truck, because the colors come out shit on film. Additionally the complexity of his design makes it so that the flame pattern was nessecery to allow for a G1 color scheme with the design they used for his transformation. Hasbro and he both worked Extensively to provide the best representation of Prime that they could. Bay's design team even went so far as to tone down Prime's transformation, so that it could actualy be produced in a real life action feature.
As far as this paint job....I really would have prefered some more original thought. Rodimus would seem almost a natural remold from this figure.

what the hell happened?
did I get zapped into an alternate universe?

Jazz. cause the grey sucks and white rules.
Ratchet was too nursey
Optimus is too red and simple
Starscream I bought but it doesnt fit his body
Only one I can think of as somewhat good looking would be red ironhide

i like both the flames and g1 designs but they seem to work better in their own mediums. to me the flames seemed symbolic of his opposition to the 'iceman' megatron.

I still can't get into this mold, no matter how you color it.
Robovision: Eh.
Movie: Eh.
Battle Damaged: Meh.
First Strike: BAH, Nah, meh, whatever.
I'd say he's clearly the worst looking of the bunch for that mold.
I will let the wise words of Peanut close out my post:
"Polish a turd, it's still a turd!"

It's basically Voyager Prime with a different paint scheme right? in the pictures of his robot mode his truck cab is upside down and opposite of what VP's instructions say to do with it. How can you flip it like that?

Holy Crap! Scatman Crothers was a redneck? I never knew!
Dr. Z wrote:That reminds me of Gobots Staks.
I thought that as well.
However bot mode, not so much.
I still have my Staks although the one I have was the blue back variant instead of the black. My friends and I used to call him fake Optimus Prime when we were kids.

whoa you can edit pics well. luv your sig.
but i think the red needs to fade into the blue. which is wahat flames are for. if its red cap and a smokestack just makes the rest of the paintjob blue then it looks weird.

I would think Bay probably got the idea from Rodimus Prime.
How? Rodimus was maroon and yellow, Optimus is red and blue. The blue flame design does keep Optimus' original colors......and it's not like the only vehicle ever to exhibit a flame design was Rodimus Prime....Bay could have seen a real truck with that kind of paint and thought it looked cool. Or maybe it was just an attempt to make movie Prime look different from G1 Prime.
Acutally according to the HD-DVD docs, red is notoriously difficult to animate realisticly in CGI, but Hasbro wouldn't let Bay make Prime all blue, so the flame design was created as a negotiation between the two parties.
What's the big deal anyways, none of our G1 red characters got to be red. Starscream, Ratchet, and Ironhide all lost their red designs, as well as Jazz. Hell none of the decepticons besides Starscream are even discernable form their earlier counterparts. Not to mention voice acting changed a lot too. Jazz used to be a redneck, now he's a gangsta? Okay. Ironhide also used to be southern, but now he's Australian.
Prime and Bumblebee stand as the only 2 characters who are directly related to their predecessors in almost every way.
Brawl is also a direct decendant of G1 Brawl. Except he's not part of a combiner team anymore. At least, not yet.

Love the G1 colors!
