But not seeing this I'm in the middle, I don't know how to feel about it.

Generation 2 started in 1993.
The Pretenders were first released 1988, and are part of G1. I wish I still had mine, I had Bumblebee and Optimus, but none of the Decepticons.

Mykltron wrote:The tank is a bit of a let-down with it's short canon and drooping gun on top. Doesn't seem to fit together very well, maybe it's just not been transformed properly.
The cannon is short in robot mode, because he's holding the sword in his hand. The sword handle is also the main cannon's barrel.
The droopy accessories don't bother me so much, because there's an easy fix for that issue.

I agree. I get the sword storage thing, that's cool, actually.
The legs and arms feel mistransformed to me, plus his face looks...weird. It looks like a Super Paper Mario character cosplaying as Bludgeon.
I will have to actually have this sucker, in hand, before I make my final decision. I'm currently on the fence now, and I was 100% sure I'd buy him, before.
=\ Dangit.

Glad to see that the toy does not replicate that unfortunate feature.

I wouldn't be too sure about that.
My local Wallace World has buttloads of waves 1-3 in most size classes, and it's not moving worth a crap.
Then they get in a shipment of Wave 5, which includes repacks of Wave 3. More clogging.
Then they get in the revision Wave containing Arcee and crew, along with Jolt, the ICT Twins, Blazemaster, and Dead End. With more in the back.
They've learned that if it can fit on the shelf, peg, endcap, pallet, whatever...they'll just shove it out there and hope it sells down quickly.
And I've noticed quite a few stores in this region doing the same thing. My guess is we'll not only see Bludgeon, but he'll be piled atop a pile of God knows how many Ironhides and Starscreams.
One more thought: After all of the Christmas sales, holiday season push, etc. I have no idea what they're going to do with these figures. (Seriously, I can't even begin to give you folks an idea of what the shelves and pegs look like. The pegs especially, it's insane. I can imagine we're going to see huge discounts and clearance sales, left and right.
Poor Hasbro (I'm being sincere here, btw.) Last time, they were totally unprepared for the onslaught that the first movie would bring in terms of sales, so stock levels suffered.
This time, they overcompensated, but the economy just bitchslapped everyone, including parents and kids buying toys. And now they're everywhere, covering every inch of the pegs and shelves they're on. Some are even in special locations around the toy department in the hopes they'll sell.
Talk about getting screwed.

Even despite all the pictures in which he seems mistransformed in his tank altmode, this is SUCH a great Transformer! Not just based on the Pretender shell, but also on his orginal hidden tank alt mode. This must be one of THE best G1 TF tributes ever released.Skullgrin140 wrote:This figure is just looks, Fecking awesome. Finally a Bludgeon figure with Swords and based on his Pretender shell.
I can only pray Hasbro / Takara will someday tribute Doubledealer in a like-wise manner.

The Pretenders were first released 1988, and are part of G1. I wish I still had mine, I had Bumblebee and Optimus, but none of the Decepticons.
And to reinforce it:
TFWiki wrote:Generation 2 means "after The Transformers: The Movie."
This common but explicitly false idea probably stems from the many casual fans who grew up with the original Transformers line but stopped paying much attention around 1986, when the animated The Transformers: The Movie debuted and the Transformers craze began to die down. Many such fans regained some interest in Transformers many years later, particularly with hype surrounding the 2007 live-action movie. Seeing the phrase "Generation 2" batted around in fandom, it might seem natural to assume it refers to the big changeover that happened with the animated film. It certainly didn't help that, early in the life of Dreamwave, Pat Lee shared in this misconception, leading other new arrivals to the fandom to ape his use of the term.
While the original animated movie certainly marked a change from one "generation" of toys to another, along with some new design trends, the phrase "Generation 2" refers to a very specific franchise, marketed from 1992 to 1995—years after the animated film had come and gone. Its relative obscurity probably contributes to the mis-attribution of the term, as Generation 2 marks a low point in popularity for Transformers as a whole.
Common knowledge now
As for Bludgeon, he was leader of the Decepticons for a time and his skeletal samurai look of his shell, which he never exited, definitely stood out. Which is why I'm glad they kept the look. I'm definitely getting him when I see him.

You mean the back view showing how half the turret opens out to provide an over-the-shoulder scabbard for the sword?
Holy sheeeese that is hot..
Holy crap on a stick. I'd glossed over that thinking it was just half transformed - but that is cool.
I suspect his smaller blade will be able to store away somewhere too.
Based on the pictures and description, the turret folds open and the scabbard inside holds the kodachi. This hidden scabbard isn't for the sword, which is more than twice as long. I hope there's a place to store the sword in robot mode, besides in the cannon barrel where it resides in alt. mode.
I'm really looking forward to this figure.

Razorclaw0000 wrote:I now totally want all Decepticon Pretenders to get updated like this. Imagine Octopunch...
Following how RotF Bludgeon was designed, Octopunch could be octopus-ish in bot mode and in alt mode, he could be a sort of all-terrain crab tank. The tentacles could be multi-sectioned solid arms in bot mode and then legs for the crab tank in alt mode.
The figure could also be a great opportunity for having a great head sculpt to homage the Pretender shell head and then use a nicely designed helmet to go over.
I was thinking of doing something similar with Bludgeon. Seeing as there's a samurai theme going on, even though this isn't part of the G1 character, imagine if Bludgeon came with a removable menpo/faceplate that looked more skullish that could be taken off to reveal a movie styled robot face.
Actually, I found a really cool looking skull menpo created by a Deviant Artist and concept artist, MichaelLoh:
Now don't get me wrong, I really like the Bludgeon design we have. I know my idea would be more costly to produce but it would have been cool.

Considering that we've seen several figures including one in box inthe last few days, I'd estimate late November, early December.
I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas this year!

I agree. This will most likely be part of the wave of figures that start showing up around the end of the year. I bet you the box is even marked Voyager Class Wave X (5, 6? I can't remember) Q1 2010.

If we wait a few weeks after its initial release it'll most likely be available on Amazon or HTS itself, so even if the scalpers buys them all up, they're most likely still online for retail price.

I hated the chicken feet at first, but I can live with them now, they remind me a bit of tabi and geta, making the samurai look like they have two toes. That's how I am justifying it anyway!

That, and they remind me of ROTF Soundwave's clawfeet.

I hope those "chicken feet" can support his weight, because he looks pretty top-heavy to me.

Sweeet...
Also, as far as stability goes, there was a pic of Bludgeon posed on... ...another site. Parts of the calf-kibble can help provide support, dare I say it, Classics-Galvatron styles.

however, this is definitely on my want list. They seem to have done sterling work on this mold. And as someone pointed out, it might make an interesting galvatron one day (it kinda reminds me of universe galvy)
i only own 2 rotf figures, i hope to make this a third, but i think it'll keep universe onslaught company...

No, both the regular and the orangy Galaxy Force repaint has the sword seperate in the box. Problem is that the plastic is very bendable (seriously, parents, watch your kids more! ), but nothing some time between the pages of a book can't solve. That's how I straighten my bendy plastic parts.
Posted by Autobot032 on September 29th, 2009 @ 5:26pm CDT
We all know applied heat will make the rubbery plastic (PVC, correct?) even more pliable.
Well, what if you heat it up, get it nice and dangly soft or whatever, straighten it out (or whatever you need it to do) and then promptly freeze it?
Wouldn't that cause some kind of chemical change to harden it?
If that doesn't work, would a paint or clear cost help stiffen it?
