Please Note: We cannot accept returns or exchanges (from Pile of Loot or shipping returns) on the original version of the MP-09 for the updated version of the MP-09, we apologize for any inconvenience.
Why do not have additional details at this time, but it appears the controversial figure may be tweaked to address some of fans' biggest problems, like paint wear.
In the meantime, you can check out our MP-09 Rodimus Prime Gallery, one of the most comprehensive galleries of the figure so far!

Anyways, I think this is the one that should have come out the first time around.
Would have saved a lot of frustration.
You'd think all the product testing these things go through, they would have caught the flaws early on.

That's being fixed though.
Thank you Takara!

Some flaws only show with "rough play", something that can't really be done at the factories. With that, I'm gonna wait this out.

True about play. I missed the first run, so I'll go for this one.
I do want some reviews or a list of all the exact problems they are fixing.
I would like to know if they finally made that spoiler yellow plastic or if it's still painted.

well to everyone who preordered got it for $200 everyone who else bought it, they got it for $209. But hopefully its not fragile or as fragile as the first version. I soo wanted him...but the with flaws did not justify the $200 price tag. I wonder when Hasbro is releasing theirs...

this however im guessing is Takaras release ofHasbro's version of the mold, which im also guessing if we dont see at botcon, we will see at sdcc. it was practicaly a given that Hasbro would tweak the mold so it could work and be sold in the american market.

Immortal Starscream wrote:the only real issue with the origional release was the tolerances. The design has a very precise, low tolerance threshhold, while the factory has a very high tolerance threshold in the manufacturing process, which creates massive issues, such as the floppy vizor on some, while others are too tight to turn. that and takaras legendary quality controll issues. still love my microman acro emperor "sorry, these all come out of the factory broken" classic.

yeah cause this will have a $70-$90 price tag and quite a bit of parents will buy this for their kids. a few of my little cousins have Masterpiece Grimlock. And they are ages 5-11. Nothing broken (which is a big surprise actually lol) If they were given Masterpiece Hot Rod, he would be a pile of plastic pieces by the end of the day XD. (with the first version)

What were some problems with Megs, other than couldn't keep his arm up due to the weight of the scope? I haven't noticed anything with mine.
I do plan on getting this one. I'll have the money for it by the time it comes out. But what do they plan on doing with the first version if this one is supposed to be way better?

Perfect usage of this phrase.
I may be tempted to pick this up, but I always disliked the Rodimus Prime vehicle mode, so I may wait for the hasbro version.

Some copies of the figure have major misalignment problems.
My own copy suffers from the fact that one of the leg joints is misaligned (I've tried repairing but to no avail), which means that the left leg is never quite lined up inside the body, which leads to a number of other issues - it means the right arm can't peg back onto the body in car mode, the left shin flap can't peg into the crotch, and the pipes on that side don't connect properly in car mode. And all this from the *slightest* manufacturing glitch!
That said, I know a lot of people who were always going to get two copies of this figure - one to display as Rodimus and one as Hot Rod, or one in robot mode and one in vehicle mode - so buying it twice isn't a major headache.
Besides which, don't we know already that the Hasbro version is going to come with an (as yet undisclosed) exclusive accessory? Rumours abound on a Targetmaster partner.
Whatever the outcome, I'll probably get the Hasbro version at some point down the line, just as I had always intended - the Takara one can stay in robot mode and donate his trailer to the Hasbro copy.
Thankfully the movie line doesn't interest me at all (shellformers and giant backpacks I can do without, thanks), so my Transformers budget is ready to be blown on a new Hasbro Roddy!

Thris. Glad I got to be a $200 guinea pig, though...
It's shit like this where I can almost understand the jackasses that pull the ol' switcharoo return jobs. Here it's almost actually tempting! They're not as stupid as Walmart, though, so I'm sure they'll be looking for this very thing.

If this released had come even just a year down the road, I'd be okay with it. But for Takara to fix it up so soon after initial batches went out, that's kinda hard to swallow.
I have learned one thing, though: Takara almost always does a second run. Probably worth it to wait in the future. *cancels MP-10 preorder*

Don't they have kids in China? They can't test them out?

You don't even need "rough play" to break MP Rodimus. No toy figure should be that fragile.
I'm glad they are fixing it and I will get the better version because that's just how I am. They really should offer a manufacturer exchange program though.
I'm not happy with Takara's business strategy with the Masterpiece line these past few weeks. First the MP Convoy "Last Shot" is answered with a new version of Convoy and now this Rodimus release!

I actually haven't opened my Masterpiece MPL01 yet and may sell him MISB if the MP-10 version looks good when it is reviewed.
I didn't buy Rodimus due to the quality issues and was waiting for Hasbro's version anyway. I'm hoping for some brighter movie accurate colours and don't care about the trailer. MP Hot Rod=want. MP Rodimus=don't want. Come on Hasbro!! Tell us when your version is coming out Botcon please (and please show us a proto or at least some pics!).

I heard it would be later this year, like around Christmastime, or even spring of 2012.

I can't believe this. People have been lumbered with dodgy Hot Rods...
And, not content with just bragging about how you got a perfect copy, you then have to insult people by claiming that they're just not following the instructions propery? WTF!!??
As mentioned a page or two back, one of the legs on my figure is misaligned. The cogs in the ratchet joint in the knee just don't line up. The other side is perfect and transforms fine, everything is tucked into place. The other side... everything's just a millimetre or two out, and on such a low-tolerance figure, that's a big problem.
Surely if it was my fault (i.e. being too stupid to follow the instructions, as you suggest), then I'd be having the same problem with both legs and not just one?

You just got lucky, the problems with MP09 come from the toy being designed very precisely, so if the guy/chick/kid that puts it together at the factory does a tiny little mistake the whole thing crashes and burns.
I guess the figure has been re-engineered for this release to allow for higher tolerance.

Can you send me the instructions to slide the spoiler into trailer without scratching the paint to hell? Wait, I found them... sand the paint off the slots of the trailer. Got any that don't require demintifying my fig?

Posted by Rodimus Prime on May 12th, 2011 @ 7:39pm CDT
As for the instructions comment, I really meant no offense. Reading it again, it did come off rude, I apologize. But I hear all these complaints, and I guess I did really just luck out. I didn't have to force anything, once I transformed the figure into Hot Rod mode and flipped the back piece up, I just opened the pieces on the sides of the slot wide, and slid Hot Rod right in. No tightness, scraping, nothing. I was holding the trailer between my knees, the open end facing up. I just let Hot Rod slide right down in. Again, I am sorry if I came off really arrogant (which I did) but I really am relieved I am not experiencing any difficulties with this figure, given all the complaining.

I'm more concert with thick-less material of the tabs at the back pack which hold the arm down in car mode and also the joint of the lower leg side panels. I only did one transformation and that was it with this toy. Those tabs and connection look too fragile. I can sense the stress mark or will break in any minute should I do more transforming, LOL. I'm not messing around with a $200 toy when the design connections are like garbage. Thanks goodness for MP1 mold and Grimlock.

I'm guessing by the QC issues they resolved with this second release. But, it would be hard to argue with a seller on the after market. I'm hoping for a spoiler made of yellow plastic, rather than painted yellow on this run.

I never had a chance to see an MP-09 in person, so if someone were to put a 1st run and a 2nd run in front of me on a table, I wouldn't know which is which unless Takara changed the graphics or a product number or something. If there is no change to the packaging, I can see this becoming a nightmare because sellers will want to unload their 1st runs and somebody's going to be taken advantage of if measures aren't taken on Takara's part.
I think you right and it's going to be difficult to tell the difference, unless Takara makes some physical engineering changes.
