It's been a while since the last Seibertron.com Galleries, but the most recent version of Laser Rod Optimus Prime gave us little choice but to start up the gallery machine yet again. Behold -- almost 250 photos of the all-new Leader Class Laser Optimus Prime from the brand new Transformers Legacy toy line!
The all-new Laser Optimus Prime gives a modern update to G2 Laser Rod Optimus Prime. While the toy takes a few ques from Earthrise Optimus Prime, it is mostly a brand new figure. While it's tough to top the original G2 Laser Rod Optimus Prime, Legacy Laser Optimus Prime tries it's best. This version has the expected sword accessory, a new axe accessory that fits in with the theme of Legacy, and has a cannon that attaches to the base mode which can also be used as a hand-held accessory.
The camera didn't stop with Laser Optimus Prime either. This was a fantastic opportunity to take a comprehensive look at Generations Selects WFC-GS14 Megatron, which homages G2 Megatron in all of his green with purple 1990s-styled camouflaged glory. This version of Megatron is a recolor of the Transformers Earthrise Voyager Class Megatron.
Laser Optimus Prime just started showing up at retail and is available online. Selects G2 Megatron was an online exclusive. Both can be found from various online retailers. Selects G2 Megatron is currently available at the Seibertron Store.
Check out both galleries using the image links below and share your thoughts about both figures on the Energon Pub forums. Enjoy!

I have the original g2 prime and it seemed a much big figure so to see this optimus nearly as tall is nice. The lack of red on the knees and the tankors sticker is still kind of annoying but as per the norm of hasbro encouraging third party add ons. I'm also not keen on the shape of legacies feet but that's because I'm picky more than anything else. I really like the TR version and don't really need a third (technically Forth as I have the old deluxe to get rid of somewhere) g2 prime but I'd be tempted now.
G2 megs looks decent in robot mode but like prime I have the original and purple TR and artic selects. Selects Tank mode is still a let down for me in the green coloring as details are out of place compared to the original but I think if you get legacy prime he is kind of a must to go with him.
If hasbro goes all weird and releases g2 prime in heroic colors for selects rather than as magnus I think I'll be picking one up

I need to get myself a G2 Megatron, somehow I've gone all this time without one despite having the purple Combat Hero version.
I have all three Generations G2 Megatrons, all using different molds (green from the Earthrise mold, purple from the Titans Return/Legends mold and gray from the Siege mold) which is pretty neat.

A Scourge version would definitely look great along with a Laser Ultra Magnus version. If in fact HasTak would make the other two they would look great alongside the original releases which i own. I know the Laser UM was a e-Hobby exclusive release but still it would look great in those colors too.
I would think Toyhax would come up with or plans to release a sticker set for G2 Optimus Prime; giving homage to the original G2 version, especially for the trailer.

This is what we should've had in the first place: correct shoulders and no nonsensical battle damage.
This is just a mini-review that goes over differences between the Legacy and Kingdom versions of Galvatron. The main obvious difference is that all the "battle damage" has been removed. Granted, the way it was done on the Kingdom version didn't make a whole lot of sense, and sometimes, less is more. The "battle damage" marks have been removed the cannon, forearms, chest, and lower legs. The bare plastic and paint colors are otherwise the same.
I have noticed that various joints are indeed tighter, including the hips and skirt flaps. This was a pleasant change to find.
...and that's it. The accessories are the same, so didn't include pics of those.
Is this worth $50 to double dip again? Probably not, unless your Kingdom version had various QC issues and/or the incorrectly assembled shoulders...and you really, really like Galvatron.
Not sure if this is the start of a trend for Hasbro to re-release figures again with slight changes. It's one thing if it's on a cheap figure, but this is a $50 Leader Class figure. That's a bit steep.

The greatest thing about G2 prime, was that his trailer became a combat base where all your toys together could fight of decepticons.
... but with this legacy hommage, they completely dropped it and made the trailer boring.
Could anyone explain to me how that makes sense?
Surely the could have designed it so all your 5mm port weapons and weaponizers can plug in?

How did they drop it exactly?
The Trailer still becomes a combat base:

Pretty much like the original, minus all the spring loaded and air pump gimmicks that are a big no no these days.

The trailer that was "dropped" was ER Optimus's.
This Laser one is pretty well done with maybe just a missile launcher missing. Appart that, the looks and function is on point.

Main issue with ERs trailer is the size. Otherwise its a pretty good scaled representation of the original.

Overquoting to remind you that it's missing the two Diaclone seats (no biggie but still) and the main culprit is in order to have Roller, a crucial part of the trailer, you have to buy a SUPER EXPENSIVE (at least by importing to Canada) a Pulse exclusive set. That's almost criminal in my book.

No argument here. Having to buy another figure entirely to get Roller, the Axe and a better looking rifle is a low class move by Hasbro. Still I went and did it, because I found him for cheap. Otherwise, I would not have bothered.
Also, Roller’s port is criminally lose on the peg inside the trailer, so he just rolls around inside if you move him.
And if you are getting real nit picky about it, it still missing the Gas nozzle and hose.

Nice. But compare that to Commander Rodimus Prime, where the trailer has like 15 ports on the outside, and 30 on the inside. The darn thing has so many ports, so close together, that you can't use them all

For the total price the damn set cost me, around 85$CAN or 68$US shipped and taxed from Pulse, I think I'm allowed to nitpick more and cry foul again.

Yup. Roller and the axe should have been included at minimum with ER Prime, especially at the leader class price point. Still a nice figure though. And I like connecting the trailer when base building. Would have been cool if the Legacy trailer was able to connect too.

The budget got used up on the extensive modifications to Optimus himself(who definitely skews toward "overengineered in the name of the toon body" IMO), on his fancy folding rifle, and on the trailer box itself. It should obvious how thin it was stretched giving us as much as we got, considering how limited the repair/turret drone is compared to the G1 toy and the lack of much in the undercarriage department. They clearly struggled to make it happen at all with him, and I think that deserves more respect than it gets.
I do feel it's ultimately futile, because WFC Optimus himself doesn't actually scale too well with other WFC figures to begin with. His robot mode is too short going by the chart they tried to abide by, and his scale in vehicle mode with the sports car-based ones is off as well (he's 1/48 scale to their still being in the Classics 1/32 ballbark) and the trailer (a shadow of the G1) fares no better; only Minibots can even fit. It was nevertheless a valiant effort, though, and on reflection deserves credit for that.
But it makes clear we need a Commander-class toy to do him full justice. It's quite the feat that they stretched a post-DOTM non-movie Leader as far as they did, but it was never going to reach far enough.
Oh, and it's not like they "held back" the accessories that came with the Centurion Drone. Those were brand-new tooling made as an accessory pack. The reason they made you buy another figure to get them is simply because they seem to have difficulty wrapping their heads around the idea of selling just a bag of accessories.

My main beef is not having to buy a deluxe along the accessories.
It's that the damn set is a Pulse exclusive that must be imported at high cost.
Importing a titan or a paper clip from Pulse cost the SAME PRICE from pulse and instead of charging the single federal harmonized tax, they charge BOTH the federal and provincial taxes so the overall price is ludicrous.

I have no idea if the axe, Roller, or other accessories could have been included in the Leader Prime box and still make a profitable release, but I'm taking the other perspective, that the accessories pack was a fantastic release. I didn't want everything in it, but it was more than the sum of its parts. I accept that there are modern production constraints that mean we won't always get everything we "should," so I appreciate the catch-all Centurion pack filled in some of those gaps.

Exactly,
plus the "walls" of the basemode have been reduced from 4 cm to 2 cm.
The 4 cm was great in g2 when most toys were rather small.
With current deluxe sized toys, the 2cm wall does not really provide any cover.
I think it's a shame the trailer does not have more oumpf, but the days i bought figures for playability are mostly behind me

Now all Hasbro has to do, if they've ACTUALLY "listened to the fans", is re-release all of the other figures they ruined the same way without the awful paint. Siege Springer would be a good place to (re) start.

As someone who actually owns several of those figures - as opposed to acting like the battle damage eclipsed the plastic colors and avoiding them - and has had them in hand, even having Springer on display, I can confidently say the battle-damage paint, while dorky, is easily-tuned-out light speckling.

Kingdom Galvatron's is even less than that, being just a few scuff marks, and actually has a bit of thought to it instead of being mere airbrush spatter. I only passed on him because I already had the TR version and I dislike the compromises on that one less (especially since it's still a triple-changer).
They release multipacks because multipacks are outside the normal slots and thus can get figures out without tying up a normal slot, and in the case of what we've seen in Buzzworthy it gives them an opportunity for things that might not have gotten a shot otherwise. They're also popular with parents since they're almost always less than the figures would cost individually and are good for giving a kid a lot of figures in one shot. Yes, it's a bit annoying when you only want one thing in a value pack, but that's been a fact of toy collecting FOR DECADES.primalxconvoy wrote:Thanks, that's interesting. Seriously! Why do I have to get some boring helicopter guy to complete my fossilizer collection?
JK, I don't actually mind multipacks. I get why they're frustrating for some, for example, it really bothers me that Skelivore is only available in that Megatron spoiler thing. But they're aren't going anywhere anytime soon, as they're very convenient for both Hasbro and parents looking for a great birthday gift. They're occasionally even convenient for adult fans, like the many seeker multipacks and the Prowl and Ironhide thing. OR well, they would be if they weren't exclusives.

Galvatron's cr@pple-damage isn't as bad as Springer's, but Springer DOES have a lot of it, looking at the many photos posted of it online. I thus cannot accept any statements to the contrary. Whether that is unacceptable for some is a matter of opinion. For me, it is, and this seems to be a valid opinion that's been noted by Hasbro, at least, regarding Galvatron's rerelease.
As for multi-packs, I cannot accept your opinions regarding this. As far as I can recall, inflating the price by bulking-up one figure with lesser figures has been more of a staple of Hasbro rather than Takara/in Japan (where I am). I don't accept it's a "normal part of TF collecting".

Dunno about the pricing mentality in your neck of the wood, but at least in Canada and USA, the multipacks sell or CHEAPER or EQUAL to buying figures individually. It's also a strategy for repaints and reissues. The only true beef to have is if those packs become ludicrously rare and get scalped to no end like for the Earthrise ones.

At first, but I found it a lot easier if the first step I did was lift the front of the car and then connect the windshield. Looking at the instructions it doesn't show at any point the windshield being clicked in place like they show the back of the roof and doors. At step 6 it isn't connected, but at step 11 it is. You definitely don't want to do the windshield at the same time as the rear roof, it isn't going to happen.
