Skytread is using the quad-tank mold so I naturally love him, and the colours look great. That said I would have preferred an Armada Demolisher homage out of that mold (complete with Demolisher nogginmaster) but Flywheels is cool too.
Clobber looks cool. That said, I'd only buy him if I had Crashbash too so I could swap the purple parts onto the yellow body and have a Cindersaur. I have seen a picture of it done on 4chan but alas I didn't save it like the ninny I am.
Brawn has a nice facesculpt (albeit one ruined by the blocky rear of his head). That's it. The Headmaster mode doesn't really work because of the afforementioned blockiness, and the vehicle thing...what the hell? The tracked jeep mode is cool but the alternate mode is...well, let's say William James is gonna need to revise his incomprehensible alt modes list. What is that? A train? A snowmobile? A boat?
One complaint I have with all of these is the unpainted faces on the Headmaster robot modes. Yes yes, budget blah blah blah, but it still seems kinda cheap and lazy. We got painted faces on bloody Mini-Cons from Armada, and their faces were miniscule (and occasionally inhuman). Come on, Hasbro.

Might be because the friction from slotting the Titan Master in would scrape the paint off. Then again, it didn't stop them from painting Twincast and Infinitus's heads.Delta Magnus wrote:One complaint I have with all of these is the unpainted faces on the Headmaster robot modes. Still need to decide on Horri-Bull or Flywheels. I like the colors on one but the Headmaster face on the other...

It's a gun.
I love how they gave the titan master Brawn's old toy face. It's clever.

Not every Armada Mini-Con had their face painted.Delta Magnus wrote:One complaint I have with all of these is the unpainted faces on the Headmaster robot modes. And you're also talking about a line whose figures were predominately barely-articulated bricks with much more simplistic engineering overall.

That was years ago when paint was not an issue and when most molds were really simply and lacked articulation.
It only started to get really good with the Cybertron toys (Hardtop will always be my fave action figure ever)

Fair enough, though the Mini-con range was quite diverse in terms of engineering and molding. Save for the molded detail, every Headmaster in the TR line is engineered exactly the same.

I said Armada, not RID 2015.

In seriousness though, whilst I do agree that on the whole the engineering of Armada was a step backwards, aesthetically a lot of them were pretty good- very little hollowness, thick plastic, nice character designs and lots of paint. Armada was hardly the high point of toy design but it wasn't the absolute nadir either. I'd argue that the Generations FoC line wins the "crappiest line overall" award with its reduced parts count and appallingly bad plastic, whilst RID 2015 takes a comfortable second place- hollow parts everywhere, very little paint, and the bricks of the line- one steps and the like- aren't even particularly successful as bricks go. They aren't particularly sturdy and they look like arse. Whilst Armada largely consisted of bricks, they were nearly all very tough and with a few exceptions they were at the very least nice LOOKING bricks, with impressive sculpts and fairly lavish paint schemes.
Maybe I'm just overly nostalgic towards it due to childhood-toyline syndrome though.

It's not a gun, the gun mode is shown in Hardhead's hand (with the back portion folded in). All of these things have land, air, and weapon modes so the long thing would be an air mode like a speeder bike or something.

Yeah, a speeder bike of some type. Something between Rey's Speeder from Force Awakens and The Dark Knights Bat Pod without wheels. In green.
If you look closely you can just make out landing skids on the bottom of the front part.

I feel like this Alpha Trion doesn't have as good as a beard game as he should though. He kind of was like the epic beard of the Autobots at least. Oh well.

Also, tis unfortunate to see no comparison pics between Sovereign and Beta Maxx (BotCon '07 A3's Mini-Con), what with Sovereign's robot mode being molded in homage to the Cybertron Safeguard mold.

Discovered the missing images while working on Astrotrain's gallery this morning. Those images were accidentally put in his folder instead of Alpha Trion's. Images have been moved to the correct folder and comparison pics are now up!

Thanks for pointing this out, Sabrblade!
