It's just... he looks like a 90's masked vigilante from one of those Liefeldian comics that knocked off the more major superheroes.Va'al wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Sweet mercy! Look at his face! I'm not saying it's awful, I'm just saying it's... yikes! Gonna take some getting used to.

It's a knight's jousting helm. It's not supposed to have a mouthplate.
All in all, I really like the Dinobots thus far. I can't wait to own them.

Scorn got some, so there's precedence.
I know what it's supposed to be, but since that is his actual face, it makes his face look featureless, like this:
If it alleviates anything, I will say this. I do love the shape of the headsculpt.

Hmm. Yes. I see what you mean.
(My major concern with Slash are those hopefully mistransformed spikes on its thighs, ready to impale itself everytime it crouches or bends forwards!)
Strafe's head is actually quite similar to Grimlock's, too.

What kills me is they sandwiched his head with the production stamp. They couldn't put it behind his legs?

As for Slug himself, I love it as much as the other Dinobots, sure, the colors are kinda random(should have gone at least with, I don't know, G2 green?) and the faces practically non existant due to the helmets, but I love just because their transformations are interesting, not just stand-up-and-straighten like with most beast formers we've gotten recently.

Also...now the Whole Dinobot roster is:
Grimlock- T-Rex
Sludge- Long neck(Brontosaurus?)
Slag/Slug- Triceratops
Snarl- Stegosaurus
Swoop- Pterodactyl
Paddles- Plesiosaurus
Grimstone- Styraccosaurus
Slash- Velociraptor
Scorn- Spinosaurus
And I don't know if Strafe would count as an updated Swoop or on his own.
Any way, cool! Lots of Dinobots to go now! Did I miss anyone?
Posted by Sabrblade on April 16th, 2014 @ 12:56pm CDT
Uh, there are only five Dinobots in this movie. Grimlock, Slug, Strafe, Scorn, and Slash.MaverickPrime wrote:Can't wait to hve these Dinobots!

I believe that Strafe is wearing an ancient Greek helmet. The other one looks familiar but I can't pin point it.

You mean like a corinthian helmet?

Agreed. Slash's visual motif strikes me not knowing whether he wants to indulge in extreme sports or a ren-fest. The kind of guy who'll find creative ways to injure himself besides the knee-spikes; maybe over-eating red traffic lights?craggy wrote:looks like a bicycle helmet to me
I also agree the helmets are jarring and clash with the more traditional Bayniversian aesthetics of some of their bodies (especially Scorn's), but I'm guessing the point is to make them look more mysterious even after they've revealed their true robot forms, and I'm all for that. After three movies with too many grotesquely-moving, vulnerable-looking, innard-ish parts, especially on faces, this is what I've been waiting for. I'll surely buy all of these guys, even if I wait for the best sale or clearance.

I know, I know, I meant taking other continuities in consideration(G1, Power Core Combiners).
Have there been other characters/species that have been officially called Dinobots? (Which is why I didn't count Hardhead from Beast Wars Neo)

Our newest Seibertron.com gallery features one of the newest movieverse recruits: Crosshairs!
His beautiful vehicle mode is based on a modified Chevy Corvette C7, dressed in a snazzy looking black and green deco. His robot mode looks like a cross between a spy and spec ops with the cool 3-D looking goggles adorning his head on top of his already sneaky and sleek design.
Crosshairs looks like the type who kicks tailplate and takes names and soon he'll be able to do the same in your collection. Until then, let our gallery whet your whistle while you wait.

So do I. It's called an aversion! Sweet mother of Primus but that's just one obnoxiously LOUD colored figure. I suppose we can drop the "In Disguise" portion out of "Robots in Disguise" for this one. It's a sad state of affairs when a version of Bumblebee can actually blend in better than any other bot on both teams.
I have to admit that some of the alt modes are growing on me but I just can't bring myself to pick up any of these characters up when I not only plan on never transforming them (the 'bot modes are a friggin' joke on pretty much all of them) but their colors are so abhorrent that I would be tempted to hit the paint aisle on the way to the cash register. I'd be better off just picking up a model kit of the vehicles.
I'm honestly trying really hard to lighten up a bit on my attitude about the movie and the figures and not be such a royal prick about the whole thing but Hasbro isn't throwing me any bones here. They would have gotten a second purchase out of me with this one if it weren't such an obnoxious color. The whole "trench-coat" thing going on isn't helping the situation either. Unless Keanu Reeves were voicing the character and they did this design as an intentional inside joke, this is just a lame idea and it transfers horribly on the toy.

Kudos for fooling the community into thinking the kibble looks 'cool' vs. seeing it as yet another lazy-butt shellformer.
Kibble isn't always necessarily a bad thing. It can help change the sillohuette of a figure and make it look like more than just a humanoid robot. Starscream's wings and shoulder vanes, Prowl's door wings and Shrapnel's "horns" are all technically kibble, and yet they are fundamental parts of the character's design- they give them the distinctive look that we all love. Crosshair's trenchcoat-kibble is a similar phenomenon. It sets him apart from the other robots and gives him a unique shape, in addition to being somewhere to store the bits of car. Plus, it's part of the actual character model, so we can't blame Hasbro for this one.
Also, surely a car Autobot that doesn't follow the "Back of car becomes legs, front of car becomes chest, doors become wings" formula is a good thing?
