He kinda reminds me of my old Matchbox King Tiger tank. All silver. Nice!

I was gonna go with HAsbro just because of that. G1 Megs is freaking awesome and I love the hommage. However, NO RED ON THE INSIDE OF THE LEGS. For me, that's a dealbreaker for this concept. Sure, it would have made an odd colored tank but still...
I just hope Takara make a LOT of this Megs because I'd like to order the Takara easily. Takara, don't repeat the Fembots Fiasco please.

Supposedly according to hlj, even TAV Strongarm got a limited release like the Fembots.

Thats because you only bought one of each. Everyone that bought 2 or more were sent a message that, to satisfy the demand, they could only give one of each to everyone.

Well that's the drama I avoid by never buying multiples from the same place. Also, Chromia is still available as of 5 min ago

Beside, that's ironically what I paid for Arcee and Chromia. Around 40$ each. Hasbro version. Damn exchange rate and damn custom fees!

Yup, agreed. Actually, I would have much preferred Takara didnt go the silver route and had more of a matte finish, to truly be cartoon accurate. Or at least look what what was first shown.
Thats why I am super happy with my decision of ignoring this release and preordering Appolyon. At least there I get something that works in a collection and doesnt have a neutered alt mode (ie a Tank instead of a gun).

I paid $87 for windblade and chromia to be delivered to the UK. That's basically the only option is had. I won't let a lack of decent purchase options in the UK deprive me of must have items like the fembot's

I sort of agree. Comparing the two side by side there's a little much on the red accents there. The red button on the barrel, the red firing missile, the red crotch and the red around his abs and shoulders is kind of overdoing it. With his more subdued color scheme he has a "real-world" utilitarian look. BUT this being a toy line and all I think there has to be a careful balance of eye-catching color and real-world immersion. Yeah as chrome as G1 megs was he could still fool the average person into thinking it was modeled after an actual pistol. However, you don't hear any complaints about Skywarps (awesome) black and purple color scheme on an F-15.
Anyway, long story short they both look cool but he should at least have some color accents.

Personally, I prefer Tank Megatron from Gun Megatron. Simply because it's a more logical altmode for a powerful leader. Never mind the scale-shifting. Big scary bot transform into a big scary tank. Awesome! Big scary bot born to lead transform into a... tool... that need to be picked up by some dude to be used. A bit sad, really.
Don't get me wrong, I'd REALLY want a redone MP Megs based on his iconic gun mode. It's just that as a tank, Megatron is not a... glorified targetmaster.

I thought about going the Apollyon route, as he looks great, but I have Ollie and he is a little flimsy. I didn't want to take that chance on Megatron.
If you like it, great, enjoy. I have a missing spot on my shelf that can't be filled by a tank. Cosmos can't be a John Deere tractor just because the colors are close.

What he means by "neutered alt mode" is toy companies willingness to comply with stupid child toy laws inspired by paranoid parents. Remember in the 1980s when it was actually fun to be a kid ? When I was like 10, I scared a hovering news helicopter away from my block with a life sized toy M-16 that didnt have a stupid orange cap at the tip. I still got it, and ill cherish it for life because of that moment. You can keep your tank.

Well, as we can tell from TT re-releasing MP-05 in gold, those 'nanny state' laws do not apply to them. I just hope that they don't think that this release will satisfy the fans, as decepticons already don't sell as well as autobots in Japan

I'm definitely happy with it... but there is a large population of people here who can't face hard truths. People don't like tank Megatron? Great! More for me. But folks need to stop bellyaching for the umpteenth time about how much it sucks that he doesn't turn into a gun.

I meant neutered in the fact that it's not a gun because Hasbro wouldnt be able to sell it in America. You want a G1 robot mode mode megatron that doesnt have a G1 alt mode, be my guest. I think the classics Megatron (any deco) already answered all my classics megatron needs. Its the right scale and while the alt mode is a new version , at least the robot mode doesnt kid itself into thinking its anything more than a G1 redux.

Its true. Little kids have small hands so the most popular characters are always given the "leader" treatment. You will never see hasbro do a new mold of an obscure character in leader scale. (Maybe a repaint like armada megs) With Jetfire being the exception, leader class figures dont scale with anything. They are just oversized figures for kids to enjoy. Theyre not MP figures just because they are the same size. They arent complex enough, nor are they cartoon accurate. They were clearly geared towards kids, not collectors. If some collectors like stand alone figures that dont scale with anything, theyre free to buy into it. But these are for kids. Thats why he is a tank. He has been neutered.

I was gonna mention Jetfire.
But also, all the Animated Leader toys were made to be in scale with the rest and Ultra Magnus was the most complicated toy of that line, or just about.
Also, leaders are always the most expensive option at retail, barring exclusives, so thats another obstacle for parents to get through when thinking of which toy to buy their kids.

OK. I'll bite because this theory of yours is just too interesting to pass up. I honestly don't remember how parents decided to buy action figures in the 80's because I never noticed them in the aisles. Nowadays if I do see Transformers sittin on the shelves those combiner wars and generations are always the first to go. AOE,Robots in Disguise and all the rest just sit there warming the pegs.(I'm not dogging those series by the way.) This leads me to believe that it's us older farts that're buying all the goods-and boy do they go fast around here-or the kids nowadays got some good taste. Why I don't believe it's the latter is cuz I don't know how many times I see parents looking helplessly at the Transformers and suggest getting something cheaper. As opposed to a $45 item (leader class transformer)that's "just a toy." The only time I ever see mom and dad go for the big boxes is during christmas.

That's a way of thinking but may I point out the good Ol' ROTF Leader Optimus? Clearly designed for little timmy.
Also, it's not always the same characters that get Leadered.
DOTM Sentinel Prime and Ironhide, Movie Brawl, ROTF Jetfire, ROTF Starscream...
Also, scale. Leaders never scale with anything? Allow me to present:
AoE Optimus Prime, CW Ultra Magnus, Gen Jetfire, Cybertron Optimus Prime and Megatron ect...
It's your personal opinion. Not a fact. Big figures designed for kids are things like the Ultimate AOE Grimlock and those giant 1 step figures. Also, Prime's Weaponizers.
Also, parents tend to buy little timmy the cheap stuff, not the 70$ figure.
Posted by Cobotron on March 28th, 2015 @ 5:18pm CDT
I feel like it's 50/50. 50% of the time they scale with the other classes and are meant to. The other 50% of the time they are stand alone specials. I often refer to these as Buzz Lightyears. The first example I can think of is the giant Cybertron Starscream. Or is he a different class?
Lately though it seems they are keeping them in scale. Definitely in Combiner Wars, with the exception of Thundercracker. He is welcome to stand alone on my shelf though.

Guilty as charged! Enabler or whatever you want to call me.
I'm no engineer but on a civilian's point of view, can the features of Leader Megatron be implemented in a Voyager scale?
Apples and oranges but we all remember the Classic/Henkei Galvatron snafu. Everyone was livid on how Galvatron turned out.
Let's be pragmmatic. Voyager=cheaper. Who doesn't want a bargain? But if the added size means extra bells and whistle I'm in!
