Looks great but I'm curious how different to the already awesome RotF mold it is. The most noticable thing I can see is the lower arms and hands. Wonder how it transforms.

Essentially, by using parts of the front of the truck to form his lower chest, they've improved the proportions and given him NON-FAUX HEADLIGHTS. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the headlights look to be real!

Also, the trailer hitch is actually where it's supposed to be, on the back. SUPER HYPED!

Is it wrong for me to say that I don't like the looks of this figure? He does seem movie accurate in many parts of his body, but based on these photos, I still view the Leader Class Optimus Prime mold to be more superior in regards to his physical appearance. To me, he seems a little bit of a disappointment. :(

I hate to be the guy to rain on everyone's parade, but ...

It looks good with the exception of the red abdomen pieces, which the Leader Class figure more-or-less got right based off the character model from the films (which my eyes keep immediately getting drawn to because they shouldn't be there), and the weird looking eyes. I understand those eyes or odd faces on the smaller retail Optimus Prime (well, I sort of understand ... I still think there's room for improvement there), but I don't understand his eyes looking weird on a high end figure intended for collectors. I love the ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime mold so it's got to really impress me to top a figure I already consider pretty close to a Masterpiece figure already, especially considering the price point and the fact that ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime is now an 8 year old toy (yikes!).

I agree, especially after how they knocked it out of the park with the MPM-3 Bumblebee figure, which is incredible looking. Maybe moreso because they haven't really been able to nail down Bumblebee in an action figure yet (maybe with the exception of the HFTD Deluxe Bumblebee or the DOTM Deluxe Bumblebee), whereas Optimus Prime has the amazing Leader Class figure.

I dont have them all. I have Drift and he doesnt cheat.

And the point was not to compare him with the rest of AOE but to compare him with the ROTF mold.

In that comparison we definitely care because you are comparing a toy that cheats to one that doesnt. A fake chest to a real one.

I agree about Evolution Prime. Cool toy, but doesn't hold a candle to ROTF Leader Optimus.

There's something about him that feels off.

I understand they were going for his look in the 2007 Movie - Revenge of the Fallen. And not the look he had in Dark of the moon with the exposed abs.

But I still find it hard to see how the MPM is better than this:

Or this:

MB-11 seems to be a masterpiece of a figure already.

I'd still like to see the transformation, as it looks very very different to the Leader class mold, but, I think I may skip it.

Specially if its going to be 2 or 3 times the price I paid for MB-11

The good news is that it wont be. It will just be $30 more since MB-11 was $70 (or around that depending on the direct retailer).

However, MB 11 came with a knucke acessory, 2 hooks, 2 swords and gas tanks that combine into a giant gun while this guy doesnt seem to come with as many accessories.

I also find this toy to look off and I am really not quite sure what is so different than the ROTF leader. At first glance, it doesnt look that different (but we all thought that with MPM Bumblebee too).

I like the placement of the wheels on the thighs. Always bugged me about the RotF mold that it had two wheels just hanging from the hips kinda messily. And I like that the lower arms don't have panels obscuring the hands from the outer angle the RotF figure does. And I'll probably like that it probably doesn't say his own name a million times as you transform it? :P

There are parts that are great and parts that are a little off. The abdomen seems a little less well-proportioned, but the paint and legs are top notch. The sword looks sick too.

I look at that and just can't help but think it's the ROTF Leader mold retooled. It's too similar to avoid tricking my brain into thinking it's anything other than the ROTF Leader mold at a base. Better pics would help, so I'll look forward to seeing more.

Hasbro has unveiled MPM4 Masterpiece Movie Optimus Prime and have now sent us the official stock images along with a description of the product. From previous leaks we know that this toy will be available as a Toysrus Exclusive in the US for a hundred dollars. There are a few discrepencies between the stock images and the reveal, as well as the box art, with the gun being left unpainted in a stock image. We also include an image of the ROTF leader for you to see how it is similar and different.

Back looks mistransformed on that stock photo cos those red bits be hanging down. And they haven't pulled out the smokestacks on the truck pic. tsk...

Still a great looking figure but hard to decide between it and the RotF mold versions.

That is exactly how I feel, especially when looking at the legs and shoulders. Even that uper chest area, it looks like the same parts from the ROTF mold.

Trying to work out where the steps beneath the truck doors go in robot mode. On the RotF they're blue and end up just stuck to the sides of the legs but they're not on the legs on the MP and they're silver in truck mode.

That is good news. However, with these new stock photos, I just don't see anything there that makes me think this is a better figure that MB-11. Definitely not enough to make me want to drop 100 bucks on it plus shipping.

Not feeling the white outline on the flames, the tires look awfully thin on his hips.

The feet look to be almost identical to the Leader class mold. The shoulders also look like the same setup.

The hood does look more broken up to better fold away in robot mode though. Guess you can't have it all.

hmmm.... decisions....

I do preffer the lack of excess kibble on the arms for this new one though. The ehad on MB11 is way better though (in my opinion).

There is a few curious missing paint aps and things that are slightly the wrong colour but if he's smaller than the leader and bigger than the Voyager that would be a nice size for an optimus (i'm sure one of the KO is that size though already).

I would have like him to have the Rotating face swap gimmick instead of a part you can loose.

I bet they reissue it with a wing pack sometime and if they don't someone will make him one.

I'd certainly get him once he was slightly reduced to around £60.00 I might even pay a bit more and if he's available in the UK TRU as well it's seems more likely - but if he's out in America and gets reduced I might make the effort.

If he's the same size as the current Leader / AOE Optimus that would be a great size to have him. If he's the same size and ROTF Prime then I won't chase him.

I've got 3 mould derived from ROTF Optimus and I have yet to garnish the enthusiasm to chase the other decos yet... I did repeatedly try to get a KO Striker Prime but kept getting stiffed on the Transaction. as I wanted one to wear the 3rd party wings and a KO is the most appropriate.

I'd be interested to see if he's of a size to be compatible with any existing trailers too.

The only things I'm not sold on are :

1) The silver behind the windows
2) some missing paint in places
3) The weapons could be a more pleasing shade of yellow/orange.
4) Gun looks a bit wimpy
5) His face is a bit to 2007 CGI looking I like Prime having a little space between the sides of his eyes and the helmet personally The small tweaks the made to his face made a big difference to how handsome he was over time and I prefer that later look (especially around the eyes).

Also is this actually needed at all ?

Wouldn't Ratchet have been a better choice or even The Wreckers ?
I guess they made this to appeal to Just the Movie fans as a collectable which is fair enough but lets be Honest Optimus has a good toy (aside from the time it takes to change the thing).

If they wanted to make a "Tweaked" toy then Sentinel could do with some additional weapons some more paint, a better neck and some stronger ankles. But for new Moulds Megatron is the guy who really needs addressing badly as 2007 Megs has only been done well once and that was a non-transforming xmas decoration. And 2009 Megs is barely better.

DOTM Megs would make a very handsome premium deco toy though (bigger than the original obviously) but there is a great KO of him coming out that should solve that. actually the KO/3rd and a bit party Movie toys look superb and a heck of a lot nicer than this thing which is OK - it's fine - but the robot mode is a bit nothing special shape wise and he's missing some paint - and for $100 or a bit more i'm most of the way to something way sexier.

Funny really where I'm comparing a Premium deco Hasbro toy and saying it looks a bit cr*p not just because it is a bit average looking but simply as it's no where near as good as the 3rd party and KO's.

But i'd be happy to own one and he's darn sure got a lot more effort put into him than some of the things Hasbro and Takara makes sometimes - so I will give him some regard for that.

And one good point is he won't keep saying "I am Optimus Prime" about 20 times during Transformation this time.

That's what was bugging me! The white outlines on the flames are too thick...anyway, overall, I feel like this'll look a lot better once we can fiddle with the toy in hand. I'm sure there are more CGI accurate positions for all those panels.
Re: New Images of Transformers Movie Masterpiece MPM-4 Optimus Prime (1877763)
Posted by RAR on April 27th, 2017 @ 3:18pm CDT
They so often forget to paint the cuffs around his biceps and the blue on the top of his foot I always notice that lack when it's not done. This time they have done the main cuff and not done the one on the tricep on the back of his arms.

There is some gold or copper missing on his legs too and some blue missing on the outer part of his elbows.

I would have really liked a more curved shoulder piece - a flip out piece there to fill in the front edge of his should panels and some hinged extensions for the chest doors lower edges would be nice too.

More separate metal wing mirrors would be nice too.

He looks nicer in the in hand shot on someone desk than he does in the official pics I feel.

Hmm. This does look pretty nice but I think I'm fine with my original RotF Leader. Some things look slightly off but it's not a big deal. I'm interested in seeing some in hand shots and opinions when this is released but I don't see my self spending the $100. Still looks great and between this and the Movie the Best Prime there are two almost perfect representations of Movie Prime.

They're both transformed correctly/the same way/the way the instructions for the toy say to do it. Photo in the site gallery has the gas tank thingies attached and the other doesn't. Additionally, it's a comparison of a straight on shot vs one at an angle.

In other news, I like everything about MPM-4 except for those elbows. Those are, I mean, what in the world? MP figure of the second most iconic Optimus Prime design and it gets shrimpy little hinges :'(

Ignoring the elbows, the rest looks great to me based on the few photos available. Takes the RotF design and tacks on the last 8 years (sheesh I'm getting old) of Movie Prime toy design improvements and distills them into a shockingly affordable package. I'm sure it probably isn't but here's hoping it's compatible with the DotM Jetwing pack!

I gotta be honest. I'm really hooked for this mold! I've never been so excited for a Masterpiece for a while! The other figures are great, but this feels special for me, and he will look great with Nightwatch Prime and ROTF Prime!
