As is now widely known, Takara and Hasbro are producing toys that have the exact same paint layout and designs, meaning that one no longer has to choose between a Hasbro and Takara version of a character, as both are identical.
However, Takara has still proven to be a good source of new images showing figures properly transformed and in poses and modes that Hasbro might not have shown off. And that bring us to today's news, as we have new images, thanks to Amazon Japan, of Takara's Power of the Primes Octopunch with Solus Prime, Battleslash, Roadtrap, and the Predacons and Predaking himself!
These new images don't really show us much of anything new with regards to the former 3, but it does give us our best look yet at the Predacons. Of note when looking at these figures is how the combined mode kibble is being put to use, with Rampage's tail forming his gun and combining with Razorclaw's to form Predaking's gun, as well as how Predaking's feet make nice back or shoulder mounted double cannons for Torax AKA Tantrum and Headstrong. We also get a good look at the new Onyx Prime Prime Master that attaches to a matrix ring inside Predaking's chest, sort of making a Beast Matrix.
check out all the images below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

I think its mostly the integration of the hips/thighs into the backpacks of Headstrong and Tantrum that kills my enthusiasm for this guy. I just wished they'd kept them separated from the figures as bazookas for Rampage and Divebomb.

Maybe because everything about them looks terrible... From their hideously, over-blocky beast modes, to their hampered bot modes, all the way to the anorexic combined mode (which somehow manages to look even worse now in that three-quarter view)
Razorclaw shoulda been a chunky ultra/leader class figure

I can guarantee one hundred percent they will not sell Onyx by himself, it's like one of those 300 dollar lego sets that has a really cool exclusive figure.

Him and Metroplex are on the same diet.
I now see that Razorclaw's gun should be able to combine with Divebomb's pari to make the double barreled gun of the original.

They should've renamed Tantrum to Trample. It sounds more intimidating and less like a 6-year-old that wants his ice-cream NOW.
(Yeah, yeah Torox makes for an easy trademark...)

I agree these are just bricks in the very definition of that word, why did they not simply go with the CW system and let a proper titan be this year's titan?
In my opinion Divebomb is the only individual of the Predacon set that looks good. (Both bot and alt mode categories)

I quite like Rampage, Divebomb looks odd in alt mode due to the giant back back making his head be so low. The only problem with Rampage is his robot mode face lacking in detail and definition.

Yep, if it was our only chance at the guy they would be calling him an exclusive instead of a special edition the same way they're calling the clear Megatronus that comes with Blastoff a special edition.
Single Megatronus should look like this:
The core should be orange without the yellow paint and with a pink-ish symbol and no black outline. The bot mode should have black arms like in the art and like how all Prime Masters' arms match their upper legs.
Doesn't mean there'll be a wave 4 of Prime Masters in PotP, they could be held over to wave 1 of War for Cybertron, it wouldn't be the first time we've seen lines mix.

There's a few issues with this theory.
1) Hasbro has to plan this stuff out in advance, not just the ending of PotP, but also the start of the War for Cybertron trilogy. We didn't know just how bad things were for TRU until this year, there just isn't that kind of time to change plans so rapidly. They were caught off guard by TRU, otherwise they wouldn't have offered them Studio Series Thundercracker.
2) There hasn't been any indication of a subscription service, you're thinking of the club that may or may not have been planned based on the code names for Arcee and Grotusque. That could have just been misdirection on Hasbro's part, we don't know. Those exclusives were timed with HasCon and NYCC, not with anything specific to TRU.
3) We've only had 3 waves of Prime Masters announced, but 4 waves of Deluxe. Even if the line was cut short, we'd still have Prime Masters wave 4. At the same time PotP Deluxe wave 4 follows the same trend as Titans Return Deluxe wave 6 which only had one new figure. If the line was cut short they probably would have had more new figures in wave 4.
It's a good theory, but it doesn't really add up.

Oh, I know, I just wanted to make sure you saw it. Sometimes when I make a post I don't realize someone slipped a post in above mine.
Wreck-gar will probably also come with a repaint like Blastoff, it's done to tie them into Power of the Primes. Nemesis Prime is already part of PotP so he probably wont come with one. Predaking comes with Onyx Prime because of narrative apparently since he himself isn't an exclusive figure, unlike the other three.

Completely agree wih this - 4/5 of the animal modes look awful and making Razorclaw bigger wouldve enabled spme mass to shift from the other 4 to him, also probably solving the torso issue for Predaking.
Im no toy designer, but i am baffled by this decision for what will inevitably be such a high end price tag. Devastators gammy foot was similarly perplexing, but Predakings issue cant be as easily fixed by 3rd party add ons

They should've made these CW scale and done Scorponok or Omega Supreme.

This comment had me thinking. Has anyone who has found Studio Series Thundercracker found any other Studio Series at TRU? When I found mine, they only had Thundercracker, not any of the others. I wonder if Hasbro found out about TRU closing early enough in the distribution to divert all the non exclusive Studio Series toys to other stores. For PotP, I haven't seen anything past wave 1 at any of the TRU's near me, so I'm thinking Hasbro must have stopped all new shipments about a month or 2 ago, except for the exclusive.

That's very possible. Studio Series is a street dated toy line, something TRU had always stuck to (aside from some rogue stores where people reported managers overriding the dates in previous lines) so Hasbro should have had time to cancel the shipment or get them back. They would have been contractually obligated to send them Thundercracker, even if the stores had already closed, it would have been up to TRU to decide to send them back or try to sell them and they chose to sell them. I wish they would have sent them back, they probably would have ended up on HTS.

Whilst the word "everything" was definitely an exaggeration, I really do not think it is unreasonable to expect alt modes that dont look like boxes.
Re the comment on prices - firstly if razorclaw were bigger personally i would be prepared to pay more, and i presume anyone else who feels the same on RC would too. Secondly these figures do already cost a lot. I am in the UK so seem to pay 1:1 with dollar prices for some reason, but these a really not insignifficant outlays.
Finally: target market. Its a G1 evolution, the target market is mostly now middle aged people who hopefully have the disposable income to afford sometjing that looks fantastic however it is displayed, as opposed to my current feelings that i will be having them mostly only in Predaking mode and sometimes in bot mode, but likely extreemely rarely in alt mode because of the boxiness.. which i think is a real shame.
This isnt picky-ness, this is dissapointment that the opportunity was there to do more, and they have chosen to do less.

I know you mentioned not having a TRU near you to even try to find Thundercracker. If you are interested in the figure (I like it even better than Nitro), I can see if I can snag one from the store where I got mine and ship it your way. Not looking for a commission or profit or anything, just send me a PM if interested. Mine was just under $30 after taxes, so you'd be looking at $30 plus whatever shipping would be from the Chicago area.

All of that, plus nostalgia goggles. Seriously, take a look at the side-by-side comparisons shots of the G1 Predacons and Predaking compared with this modern redo. Anyone pretending the originals were somehow less blocky, better proportioned, or better sculpted, is lying to themselves because reality doesn't stack up to their unreasonable expectations. Onyx honestly looks like he was instead based directly off of the Binder of Revelation design for himself, Onyx Prime (hoofed feet, clawed hands, bird-mask head, multi-layered torso/shoulders with triangular features, etc.) instead of a preexisting Pretender's inner robot.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:o.supreme wrote:I'm not sure how you can tell just by looking at the PM itself what Pretender shell it could go with.
