For comparison, they have put this new entry into the Studio Series with MP-10 and Takara Tomy's Movie Advanced series "Classics Optimus Prime" (Evasion Mode Optimus Prime). This gives us a good look at the back of the figure in Alt mode.

Are you still wanting to get your hands on this version of Prime? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews.

This new SS classic Optimus blow the new siege one out of the water in looks alone. Very clean bot mode and truck mode without any weird extra bits. I'm looking forward to how he transform and his overall quality.

I may be mistaken, but is this the same colour as the ROTF Optimus? I don't know if this means that Jetfire could be compatible or not, I am yet to transform either Jetfire or Optimus. I don't have the ROTF Optimus so I can't be sure myself.

I'm curious about this as well. I don't know what this is or means

I wonder if this Prime will be in scale with the Trilogy trailer in truck mode.

That’s good considering they’re two different characters and toys that begs the question on why compare them

Probably not. The Trilogy trailer was Deluxe-scaled. This toy's a Voyager.

That makes sense, but with the downscaling in my opinion it could be more or less in scale

Uh? Both are Optimus. Both are mainline voyagers. Both have classic looks. Both are flat nose trucks. OF COURSE THEY CAN BE COMPARED.

Well, ROTF Optimus's ab/chest piece isnt removable like the new 07 Prime, so it could be a cover for the ab bits on ROTF Prime.

I think, if I understand his intention right, that he's saying they can't be compared because one is supposed to be a real earth vehicle, the other isn't, or at least as alien as they can get but still keeping the vehicle cues so that Prime looks like the animation model to the best of limits of the size class and budget.

That's splitting hair. Because we could compare both to the good old Classic mold as well, which is not supposed to be "realistic".

You could but it still wouldn't make it a good comparison. They both fill different roles in a collection. Sure you could use this one in a generations display just like you could put siege Optimus in a movie display but it doesn't mean that's where they were intended to go.

Exactly they’re both different Optimus Primes. Both do two different things. It’s like comparing Prime Optimus and Animated Optimus. What’s the point? They both are two different characters that share SIMILAR likenesses but are completely different people

Would you compare Siege Megatron with Studio Series ROTF Megatron? If so? WHHHHHY?!

Right, but the trailer was too big for the deluxe cab. I have the already released RoTF Prime and the trailer is n scale with it, except I can't attach it because of Prime's feet on the back in truck mode. I can't get them out of the way unless I remove the pins and take off the feet. If the Bee Prime is the same size as the RoTF Prime, it should work.

Usually when we have an official announcement and stock photos. They don’t post photos of figures sitting on someone’s table.

However if you really want him on the wiki now go ahead and put it there. It’s a wiki, you yourself can add stuff on there but it will probably go through review. Sometimes a mod will check.

With this, you are splitting hair to the point of nuclear fusion. There's a matter of vehicle type and style too. Plus both bots are completely different in overall style.

Prime Optimus could be compared to the ROTF one. Similar vehicle type, similar overal style. Same with Animated Rodimus and Classic Rodimus. Same vehicle, same overall style. Just look at the broader picture, but not TOO broad like your absurd Megatron example. And speaking of Megatron, I could compare the Seige one with the Combiner Wars leader. Same type of tank, same robot mode, same placement of kibble. However, one is a voyager and the other is a leader, making the comparison invalid as far as the TOYS are concerned.

What I care about is the TOYS. I don't give a rat's tail about fiction. As an off topic note, the Seige style, although very nice, is not really "Cybertronian". More like "cyberpunk" earth modes. The palm for best Cybertronian designs ever go to the amazing Activision video games.

What you’re doing is splitting hairs

Ones a movie figure and ones a CHUG figure. Doesn’t matter if they share similarities they’re both Optimus Primes but they’re different characters. You wanna toss siege into movie toys or the other way around that’s your personal fannon but that’s all that is. Both are different lines and made for different purposes. To compare them is comparing apples and oranges.

And I’d like to know how my Megatron is obscured considering ithey’re both the arch enemies of of the two toys are trying make comparisons toward.

As I repeat that I do not have a "fanon" and I don't give a single fox about stories. I look at the toys for what they are. And that new Optimus is 99% CHUG design wise.
A little more and we could call the Cybertron repaints in the 2007 Movie line "movie designs" just because of the box they came in.

There was a similar case with the SS Ironhide. The figure was revealed, reviewed, and out before an official announcement happened

Following our last article on in hand images of Studio Series 38 Voyager Class Optimus Prime (from the Bumblebee film), TonTon Reviews (who put up the in hand images), has come through on what they said and posted their review!

This review allows us to get the best look at the toy yet, as well as its surprisingly complex transformation. We see the ion blaster included stores between his legs in truck mode to fill in the gap and hold it togethyer. The backpack in robot mode also has 5mm (probably) holes to store the blaster.

TonTon also includes comparisons with Studio Series Deluxe Class 18 Bumblebee, the other Studio Series Optimus Primes, and more!

UPDATE:

While the video on Youtube was taken down, you can still watch the review on YOUKU at the following link: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMzk5ODg4M ... 1d87631d68

The Bumblebee Movie Optimus Prime is really excellent. Its about what I imagined we should have got in 2007 with the original movie instead of the rather jumbled thing we did get. Cleaning up the design a little really helped the Bumblebee designs over all. :)

Well, that new SS Optimus have the arm panels like the Classic mold, but they are more subdued. I can see this as an involuntary hommage. I love how genius the transformation is. Is "complexily simple". The overall look is amazing and it have the most realistic truck mode ever for a flat-nosed Optimus.

This one will be a sure buy. :APPLAUSE:

This looks awesome. Nicely complex and a detailed but streamlined not mode. I also appreciate how much effort they put into having a realistic truck mode. Definitely a must-buy, this will be my first Studio Series purchase.

Talking poor of a design in a successful movie versus a design in a flopping movie. Hoping China will help is sad and futile. Aquaman got an extension there and the opening in China wasn't strong so.....flop.

He's talking about a toy, not the movie associated with the toy.

The Nitro Zeus figure was good despite being in the toyline for that movie so what does your point have to do with anything.

Movie doesn't need to do good for the toy to be good.

"Ah this Optimus toy is well articulated and designed but it's such a bad figure because the movie did bad"

What logic is that?

So, trying to keep this thread on topic, the vehicle mode for new prime is really bugging me, something to do with the proportions of the grill compared to the windows feels off; is that reflective of flat-faced trucks from the 80's? I think that would go a ways towards making me like this design more, cuz it's really putting me off

FYI The movie already made back its production cost and then some (As of Jan 4th $196.6M worldwide over a $135M budget), so it's not a flop in the slightest. There have been much worse.

Back to the toys:

A 60 million profit is nothing when you factor in marketing and reshoots so yes it's a flop.

how about you actually become patient and wait more than at the very least a month to determine if its a flop or not.

The writing is on the wall. This isn't a slow burner.

You know what would be awesome? If it turned out Jetfire could combine with #38, imagine if that's who the chest piece came for... :-? Now this leaves AoE with no prime presentation in the Studio Series line, wonder how long that'll last.

On the topic of the Studio Series toys, please. Take the Bumblebee movie talk to that thread.

anyway:

while i doubt it, it would be cool.

I'm also super glad at how long the line has lasted and appears to be planned to last. It's pretty awesome to have so many new movie figures.

I'm curious to see who will be filling the gaps in between the constructicons, I'll be pouncing on all of them!

Honestly, I'd say the movie's profits are suffering mainly from series fatigue/apathy. Its a great movie but they beat the series, and the bumblebee character to death by TLK. As for the toys themselves, the 2007 optimus toys just weren't that great, regardless of how the movie sold or whether you liked the on screen design... though the voyager deco packed with bonecrusher would have made a decent movie ultra magnus if you replaced the head. This is definitely a superior toy, (although as if to spite us, it does have a faux window still, just this time its on the back of the vehicle mode XD)

Looking so very forward to the constructicons. Hoping for the twins to be revealed next in both ice cream truck mode and in their Chevy modes. Hasbro have been toying around with duocons as of late so it'd be fantastic to see the twins get updates.

Probably something to do with the toy not having been announced officially by Hasbro, only reason we know of this toy is due to leaks.
