We knew Takara's Transformers MP-47 Masterpiece Hound looked good and that he was pricey. What we didn't know was where those wheels went. Well, we know now. A new video reveals what might just be the best leg transformation of all time with the wheel collapsing into his legs. The parts count is so high that even his wheels are made of multiple parts, accounting for the higher level of show accuracy and price.

You can see a breakdown of the leg transformation below the full video. The original video was region blocked so TFND mirrored it on Facebook.

This toy is available at every single online retailer you can think of, including Hasbro Pulse for $169.99. That version is the Hasbro release which will come in an extra box with English writing.

There is no level above wheel jack. While he isn't my favorite MP, I do still thi k he is the best one made so far.

It's cool and clever and all but it still isn't worth the asking price. He still takes the cartoon accuracy thing way too far (the bland and weirdly tapered thighs in particular annoy me) and honestly I'd rather the partscount and price had been brought down with the wheels being on his legs like the old G1 toy.

Just preordered it via Anime-Expo. Cost was $121 US. Guess it gets released in December, which means I won't see it until February. :lol:

Eeehh. He's really well designed but he just feels so light and cheap. I'm still on the Iron Hide/Ratchet kick when it comes to "best." It's a good blend of cartoon accuracy, quality build, solid transformation, size, and posablity.

I'm hoping hound doesn't feel cheap and plasticy like WJ does. That's probably my biggest gripe with the guy, and being that Hound is roughly the same size, I'm worried he will be.

The tire transformation does look cool, but I still feel let down by his looks. If you’re gung-ho about the cartoon look and can afford the $$$ then I guess it works. Big no for me. Content with my Maketoys Gundog.

Don't remember what exactly I paid but I grabbed him off BBTS for $80-100 so I doubt he's a KO but that was kinda my thought initially because it's just so....light. nothing broke or damaged during transformation and he holds poses fine. I dunno, was just underwhelmed with him, is all.

By the visuals I would think that you are intelligent enough to SEE that it has nothing to do with hound, but new pics of this figure that was just released... but they are transformers and this is a transformers website and THAT is what they have in common.

Mp shockwaves legs still have a better transformation over hounds having a box to put his condensing wheel in. The wheel trick on generations g2 prime was pretty neat and this might take it up a notch (as long as rolling isn't hindered) but either way...
Step 1. Have a hole in your box
Step 2. Put your wheel in the box
(steps being omitted is perfectly fine as far as transformer instructions go)

I have to agree, I think there's a lot more going on with this figure than folks are giving him credit for... now... how much of that is needlessly complicated like the new MP Prime's legs hoovering up the whole sides of his cab... or how crazy intricate Sunstreaker is... well... I think that's more-or-less the new "level" of MP we're getting with the G1s. If anything I've found the Beast Wars MPs a bit of a refresher. Sure Dinobot and Megatron got a *lot* of panel work going on... but there' something... intuitive about it.

I had to sit down for a good 10 minutes trying to remember how to unpeg Sunstreaker's backpack after he was sitting on the shelf for a long time. Nevermind his weird locking elbow/wrist thing.

I'm excited for Hound, though I'm disappointed the rag-top just "clips" on his back, I was hoping it was going to fold up into something clever. Still think I'd rather have Ravage's Cage... We'll see I guess.

Oh, Goddamn it...why did I watch this? Why!?!? I saw the reveal, and thought: 'Ooh, nice! Hound hasn't been done 83,462 times before, and the price should be at either the Ironhide/Ratchet or Inferno/Grapple price band.' Then, of course, I saw the price, sighed loudly and decide to stick to my stoic resolution not to buy any more Masterpiece figures (unless they do Added).

Then I watched the video. The wheels? That's class. But a Spike with articulation. And a holographic figure to remind me of watching Transformers in 1985 and every Transformer had a bespoke super-power. Even that random hood that came out of nowhere and makes no sense. Hound's face shield. It's pretty sweet.

But...is it worth £130 sweet? Like a whole wave of Marvel Legends sweet. I don't know. Anyone else conflicted here, and when is the damn thing released?

If I should ever get MP-47, I'm gluing the wheels into a solid piece and leaving them unstowed to spite the idiotic "Let's copy the thing the cartoon only did because of mediocre animation" design trend. The engineering is creative and clever, but it's unnecessary and out of place here.

And meanwhile, that kind of cleverness hasn't been being used in some of the places that actually need it, Where was that wheel-splitting brainwave when they were designing MPM-4, huh?

Masterpiece Hound was first revealed in July 2018 and now after a year and a half later, he is coming out. While he is coming out at the end of this month, many will be getting him early January. A fan got his hands on him already and uploaded many images on Weibo. Almost half are regarding instructions and steps, and you are free to translate the text found here for extra context. Below you will see images of the alt mode and bot mode with various accessories. Most images are rather unflattering, with dim lighting and a focus on how the head attaches in a funny way.

Take what you will from these but I would wait for criticism until more have it in hand.

Hound looks really good, the head looks better than the promo pics we saw before. As long as the bar the head sits on locks securely in place it should be a non issue.

Hooooo boy I'm not so sure about this one. Putting aside the cracks (which could just be production sample jank) he just looks...off, somehow. Kinda messy. The detail in jeep mode is nice though.

As for MP Hound himself, he's a big "meh" for me. I'll stick with my good old Alternator version.

You can tell these aren't Will's pictures, there's no sign of his dinning room table and tile floors anywhere to be seen.

The head does look a lot better in these pics, as does the factory paint. Transformation looks to be on par with the likes of Wheeljack or Sunstreaker, complex but not difficult. I think he's going to be a fun one to mess around with.

This figure is very underwhelming. It just looks dull. Like a very well done 3D-printed piece. Not sure why, but it just doesn't work. It's not even the right shade of green, I don't think. I thought Hound was a bit darker.

Someone will probably beat me to it, but hopfully I'll have some better pictures once mine arrives.

Before I had straightened out MP-44's antennas I wanted to cancel Hound in protest, but the pre-order had already passed the cancellation cutoff date so I left it well enough alone.

Will finally have some green on the shelf.
