While fans eagerly await the return of Transformers to the big screen with Age of Extinction, ET takes you to the set of the series' action-packed fourth installment.
Director Michael Bay and his revamped cast took to the streets of Detroit, dressed up to look like Hong Kong, to film a portion of the film, which is where ET's Rocsi Diaz got a special behind-the-scenes look at the explosive action film.
The new cast for the fourth installment of the live-action series, based on the Transformers toy line, includes some familiar Hollywood faces, including Mark Wahlberg as the protagonist (Cade) and Kelsey Grammer (Harold) as the main villain.
As you can see in the featured video, Bay wasn't stingy on the explosives in the Age of Extinction, as cars are being sent airborne like feathers on set.
"It's a lot of explosions all day long, a lot of loud noises, a lot of running," Jack Reynor (Shane) said of a typical day on set.
Watch the video to satiate your Transformers appetite, and check out Transformers: Age of Extinction when it bursts into theaters June 27, 2014.

Oh, wait! Stinger was supposed to be the name of one of Blaster's cassettes in the 1986 Movie!
Then fans would rage that he wasn't a cassette. Nevermind...
Seriously though, what's so mind-numbingly awful about the name 'Stinger' around these parts (especially when have names like Ratchet and Blaster in this franchise)?

Honestly, no one gave two cents about the names of Scalpel, Brains, Igor, Crowbar, or Hatchet, yet somehow the name "Stinger" is the one that gets persecuted?

And before we go blaming Michael Bay... do we even know if it was his idea to have Stinger as a character? How do we know it wasn't Hasbro who said to Bay "We'd like to introduce Stinger as a new character to our toy line, so we'd like you to make him a character in the movie"?

yeah.. remember when batman battled butterman in the dark knight rises? or hey.. remember the evil architect, the super villain from the avengers movie.. or hey.. what about plasma tv guy the new hero of the x men.. or that time spiderman got his ass beat by curdled milk man.. but my favorite character HAS to be plastic bottleman, iron mans new trusty sidekick for iron man 4.
other franchises are able to keep their classic characters in major movies.. why does this franchise have to be different?
you have to be really naive to think people won't be annoyed with new characters when there are TONS of classic iconic characters to choose from.. especially when the alt mode is a car.
i am one of few who have enjoyed the movies for what they are.. they've changed designs, they've changed personalities, and they've changed colors.. i, at the very least, would like them to use some of the classic iconic names from the franchise..
black ironhide, silver sideswipe, green ratchet, muscle car bumblebee, tattooed starscream, mercedes soundwave.. i think the least they could do is give us names that we know. it's really not that difficult to do. they've shown us that they can change things to characters that we know.. but i'd still prefer them to be characters that we know, whether their colors or personalities are different or not.. i'd like a recognizable name.

Biggest hole in your argument: All of those films are adaptations of existing comic series. The Transformers movies are wholly original and new creations in their own right, with only a handful of callbacks to previous works.TimothyR wrote:yeah.. remember when batman battled butterman in the dark knight rises? or hey.. remember the evil architect, the super villain from the avengers movie.. or hey.. what about plasma tv guy the new hero of the x men.. or that time spiderman got his ass beat by curdled milk man.. but my favorite character HAS to be plastic bottleman, iron mans new trusty sidekick for iron man 4.
Maybe cuz the characters in these films aren't the classic characters of Transformers? They're ALL new guys with some who are based on old ones without being those old ones. Movie Ironhide isn't the old Texan warhorse veteran G1 Ironhde is, he's a cannon-toting maniac with a bit of a psychotic side. Movie Ratchet isn't a crusty, slightly angsty medic whose uncertain of his warrior skills and like to party, he's just a plain non-special medic. Though others like Jazz and Optimus are more similar to the originals, they're still a far cry from being those same characters that they're based on.TimothyR wrote:other franchises are able to keep their classic characters in major movies.. why does this franchise have to be different?
Do you honestly expect them to not recycle more classic names for this film's cast? We've already got Optimus, Bumblebee, Hound, and Grimlock confirmed for the roster. What legitimate harm does a couple of new names thrown in among the recycled ones do?TimothyR wrote:you have to be really naive to think people won't be annoyed with new characters when there are TONS of classic iconic characters to choose from.. especially when the alt mode is a car.

And it's not like this Stinger guy's gonna be taking away any major role from anybody since he's a Decepticon, and these films ALWAYS reduce the non-big name Cons to personality-less savages anyway.
If the classic personality is gone and replace by a new completely different one, can they really be called the same character anymore?TimothyR wrote:black ironhide, silver sideswipe, green ratchet, muscle car bumblebee, tattooed starscream, mercedes soundwave.. i think the least they could do is give us names that we know. it's really not that difficult to do. they've shown us that they can change things to characters that we know.. but i'd still prefer them to be characters that we know, whether their colors or personalities are different or not.. i'd like a recognizable name.

But yeah. Stinger is actually a pretty cool name for this vehicle, and speaking of, this car is actually a pretty sweet car. I gotta actually side with Bay on this one; if there is fan-rage about this, people need to get over it. The character was never implemented in the movie and therefore does not have a canonical place in the universe.

Yes, they are. I have been open to new change in the Bayverse, but I mean come on......seriously? Your going to make your own characters when the respective name of the movie is TRANSFORMERS? If your going to make your own characters, then make a different movie about it, so you don't take away from OUR vast universe of characters we love and know.

Don't be daft. The 1986 animated movie was almost all new characters, and it kicked ASS.

We get new characters all the time, primematrix1986. Ever since 1985, new characters just keep pouring in. Can you honestly think of any Transformers show, comic, or movie that didn't create their own new characters and only used old characters?

Exactly. Every Transformers show, comic, and movie included entirely new and original characters. Which makes this statement all the more ironic:

Making new characters is part of "Transformers." Padlock, Hot Shot, Airachnid, and Yoketron are prime examples, and Stinger is just another one of them.

Yes, you are right. Trust me, I don't HATE the Bay movies, but I think they could be way better. In a comic or cartoon, they have time to develop that new character out. Plus, movies are visually better, even if the story like *cough ROTF cough* was bad, the eye candy was great. What my point is, that I want to see more original characters on the big screen so we can enjoy it more, rather than creating a NEW Transformer that could have been used as someone we actually know and relate to. That's like making The Avengers 2, but coming up with totally new characters, rather than giving us what we want - someone we know like Scarlet Witch, Ant-man etc. See my point?

Well chances are Stinger isn't going to get any real character development if the previous movies are any indication, so it doesn't matter. It's better with a new character coz if it sucks, at least it's not an old familiar thats being dumped on. RE: Avengers - Transformers aren't a team of 7 or 8 people, they're pretty much an entire race on a planet thats bigger than earth. Relish the introduction of a new character in the limelight, coz maybe it'll get more depth with comics, and even games (and hopefully a rad figure).
Posted by Sabrblade on November 22nd, 2013 @ 11:41pm CST
Thing is, these movies give so little exposure to the robot characters as people instead of just as eye candy that there's little-to-no reason for us to care about any of them, regardless of whether they recycle existing names or have newly-created names. The robots are so disconnected from the audience on a personal and familiar level that there's hardly anything relatable about them. If one has only seen the films and hasn't read the Movieverse comics or novels yet (like myself), then there's not much for that person to get out of these Cybertronians aside from flashy special effects cool-sounding voices, and altmodes of varying tastes.primematrix1986 wrote:What my point is, that I want to see more original characters on the big screen so we can enjoy it more, rather than creating a NEW Transformer that could have been used as someone we actually know and relate to. From watching the films by themselves, we know next to nothing about Ironhide, Jazz, Ratchet, Barricade, Blackout, Bonecrusher, Brawl, Frenzy, Scorponok, Starscream, Sideswipe, Arcee, Jolt, Soundwave, Ravage, Grindor, the Constructicons, Sideways, Dino/Mirage, Que/Wheeljack, Roadbuster, Leadfoot, Topspin, Laserbeak, the Dreads, Shockwave, and more, beyond what's on the surface. The characters that the movies focused on the most and wanted us, the audience, to relate to the most were the humans, as which will likely not change for this movie as well. So even if Stinger did reuse an existing name, he'd probably just serve the same role as he will as Stinger, making the difference between his name being old and new so minor as to be virtually nonexistent.
