Still a great looking figure but hard to decide between it and the RotF mold versions.

That is exactly how I feel, especially when looking at the legs and shoulders. Even that uper chest area, it looks like the same parts from the ROTF mold.

Seeing these new official pics, the legs are now making me think of the movie-accurate Battle Blades Voyager mold from 2010.Seibertron wrote:william-james88 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:I look at that and just can't help but think it's the ROTF Leader mold retooled. The good news is that it wont be. It will just be $30 more since MB-11 was $70 (or around that depending on the direct retailer).
However, MB 11 came with a knucke acessory, 2 hooks, 2 swords and gas tanks that combine into a giant gun while this guy doesnt seem to come with as many accessories.
That is good news. However, with these new stock photos, I just don't see anything there that makes me think this is a better figure that MB-11. Definitely not enough to make me want to drop 100 bucks on it plus shipping.
Not feeling the white outline on the flames, the tires look awfully thin on his hips.
The feet look to be almost identical to the Leader class mold. The shoulders also look like the same setup.
The hood does look more broken up to better fold away in robot mode though. Guess you can't have it all.
hmmm.... decisions....

Same here. The good news though is that I dont feel retro jipped in the least to having bought MB11. Its a gorgeous piece.
I do preffer the lack of excess kibble on the arms for this new one though. The ehad on MB11 is way better though (in my opinion).

Backpanels on that left one aren't rotated and clipped in properly.

How are they supposed to be? That's from my gallery and I think that's how I transformed all of them.

I would have like him to have the Rotating face swap gimmick instead of a part you can loose.
I bet they reissue it with a wing pack sometime and if they don't someone will make him one.
I'd certainly get him once he was slightly reduced to around £60.00 I might even pay a bit more and if he's available in the UK TRU as well it's seems more likely - but if he's out in America and gets reduced I might make the effort.
If he's the same size as the current Leader / AOE Optimus that would be a great size to have him. If he's the same size and ROTF Prime then I won't chase him.
I've got 3 mould derived from ROTF Optimus and I have yet to garnish the enthusiasm to chase the other decos yet... I did repeatedly try to get a KO Striker Prime but kept getting stiffed on the Transaction. as I wanted one to wear the 3rd party wings and a KO is the most appropriate.
I'd be interested to see if he's of a size to be compatible with any existing trailers too.
The only things I'm not sold on are :
1) The silver behind the windows
2) some missing paint in places
3) The weapons could be a more pleasing shade of yellow/orange.
4) Gun looks a bit wimpy
5) His face is a bit to 2007 CGI looking I like Prime having a little space between the sides of his eyes and the helmet personally The small tweaks the made to his face made a big difference to how handsome he was over time and I prefer that later look (especially around the eyes).
Also is this actually needed at all ?
Wouldn't Ratchet have been a better choice or even The Wreckers ?
I guess they made this to appeal to Just the Movie fans as a collectable which is fair enough but lets be Honest Optimus has a good toy (aside from the time it takes to change the thing).
If they wanted to make a "Tweaked" toy then Sentinel could do with some additional weapons some more paint, a better neck and some stronger ankles. But for new Moulds Megatron is the guy who really needs addressing badly as 2007 Megs has only been done well once and that was a non-transforming xmas decoration. And 2009 Megs is barely better.
DOTM Megs would make a very handsome premium deco toy though (bigger than the original obviously) but there is a great KO of him coming out that should solve that. actually the KO/3rd and a bit party Movie toys look superb and a heck of a lot nicer than this thing which is OK - it's fine - but the robot mode is a bit nothing special shape wise and he's missing some paint - and for $100 or a bit more i'm most of the way to something way sexier.
Funny really where I'm comparing a Premium deco Hasbro toy and saying it looks a bit cr*p not just because it is a bit average looking but simply as it's no where near as good as the 3rd party and KO's.
But i'd be happy to own one and he's darn sure got a lot more effort put into him than some of the things Hasbro and Takara makes sometimes - so I will give him some regard for that.
And one good point is he won't keep saying "I am Optimus Prime" about 20 times during Transformation this time.

There is some gold or copper missing on his legs too and some blue missing on the outer part of his elbows.
I would have really liked a more curved shoulder piece - a flip out piece there to fill in the front edge of his should panels and some hinged extensions for the chest doors lower edges would be nice too.
More separate metal wing mirrors would be nice too.
He looks nicer in the in hand shot on someone desk than he does in the official pics I feel.

Oh, I agree. MB-11 is fantastic. No regrets about it.
I do like the faceplated head on MB-11 more than the open face on this one.

And oftentimes it is cheaper or about the same price than getting it from a domestic Toys R Us.

They're both transformed correctly/the same way/the way the instructions for the toy say to do it. Photo in the site gallery has the gas tank thingies attached and the other doesn't. Additionally, it's a comparison of a straight on shot vs one at an angle.Bumblebee21 wrote:this is supposed to be the correct transformation
In other news, I like everything about MPM-4 except for those elbows. Those are, I mean, what in the world? MP figure of the second most iconic Optimus Prime design and it gets shrimpy little hinges :'(
Ignoring the elbows, the rest looks great to me based on the few photos available. Takes the RotF design and tacks on the last 8 years (sheesh I'm getting old) of Movie Prime toy design improvements and distills them into a shockingly affordable package. I'm sure it probably isn't but here's hoping it's compatible with the DotM Jetwing pack!

Ah actually I think the panels themselves are fine but it's the grey parts that make up the lower piece of the smokestacks should be tucked away under the panels not above like they are in that shot. Sorry I got the bit wrong but they shouldn't be there.

SpikeyTigertron wrote:Everyone keeps comparing him to RotF Leader class... Correct me if I'm wrong... but he looks closer to a rebuild of the HftD/RtS Battle Hooks(?) **Edit: Or was the voyager literally just a downscale of the leader? (it's been a while) ***
ROTF voyager prime is a downscale of the leader, yes.
Another cool thing about owning MB 11 and owning this guy is you would have a leader class prime representing him in he first movie and another one representing him in DOTM.

That said, I hope that the US release uses a warm gray or metallic gray plastic for the appropriate parts, rather than the ugly cheap gray plastic they've been using recently.

And does Transfomrers have the potential to be a brand that exists for 75 years or so? And still making toys? The only other brand I can think of that never stopped is Barbie but thats only 58 years old.
