According to Deadline, Akiva Goldsman has now a project to pitch for both the sequel and the Cybertron-based prequel from the writers' room, seemingly with Mark Wahlberg confirmed in some role, but not confirmation of Michael Bay directing yet. Read more here and a snippet below!
EXCLUSIVE: It’s pencils down for the Transformers Writers Room; the experiment has concluded and the early results are in. Akiva Goldsman has walked away with a concrete blueprint to write a Transformers sequel for Mark Wahlberg to star in for Michael Bay to direct, with production starting in June. Ant-Man scribes Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari will head off and write an animated feature, an origin story that focuses on Cybertron, the planet from which the good and bad Transformer robots hail.

I mean at this point paramount are walking up to bay with a big blank cheque with a sure smile on their faces given the movies past box office takings
I'm going to hesitantly agree with you sly, a lot of people have been asking for a humanless tf movie, let's see if they'll regret it after wards.

You know not what you're saying! Prime fighting Unicron is probably 'meh' at best, but Prime fighting a Unicorn? That is going to be awesome beyond words!

Then rely on the subsequent negative press and Bay-bashing, which inadvertently promotes for them the very crap they're producing.
I wish they'd just euthanise this poorly-executed junk and start again... But considering the obscene amounts of money they're making, I consider that highly unlikely.

There have only been three Animated films in the entire 30 year history of the Transformers. All of them have one thing in common- minimal-to-zero human involvement, and all of them are amazing! So a Movie verse prequel could still be decent. I just hope its different from CW which was supposed to be set in G1 (well I'm assuming IDW's G1 anyway).

Paramount and Machinima have nothing to do with each other, TF-wise.o.supreme wrote:ok, I'm a little confused now. This "Animated Prequel" that is supposed to be set in the movie universe. Is this something different than the Combiner Wars that Machimina is producing? I sincerely hope so.

Machinima's CW thing is Neo G1-based. This is Movieverse.o.supreme wrote:Machinima has nothing to do with Warner Bros. either, but Machinima still produced TV and animation for Warner. I see your point, but just wanted to be clear as this is the first I have heard of this additional animated project beyond CW that was announced at SDCC.

That was a feature length television episode! or tv movie! NOT a proper movie that you'd watch at the cinema.

Its just something odd about the United States Culture. In Japan, almost EVERYTHING gets a theatrical release. Those dumb little Tinkerbell movies- yup, all released in the theater in Japan.
Also it could be argued that Predacons Rising could very easily have had a Theatrical release, but Hasbro, for whatever reason, chose not to. They could have very easily done a limited release like they did with MLP, and I'm sure it would have done ok. Sometimes there are movies that are made with every intent to be released in the theater, then at the last minute, it doesn't happen, doesn't mean they are any less of a film.
additionally Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy's Close Call! was only 47 minuets long, but it was released in Japanese theaters. It is shorter in length than Predacons Rising, but it had a theatrical release, so is it a film or not? I definitely count it as one.
Posted by Sabrblade on September 18th, 2015 @ 11:43am CDT
Both Equestria Girls movies and the Star Wars: Clone Wars movie were made with TV production levels in mind just like Predacons Rising, and yet all of those got theatrical releases. Ergo, being screened at the cinema does not solely define what is and isn't a movie.Stuartmaximus wrote:Decepticon Sunstorm wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Oh how easily this fandom forgets that we already got a fully CGI animated, humanless, Cybertron-set movie before.

1. Transformers: The Movie (1986) (set between seasons 2 & 3 of the original series)
2. Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy's Close Call! (1998) (set between episodes 37 & 38 of the TV Series Beast Wars II: Super Life-Form Transformers)
3. Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising (2013) (set after the conclusion of the TV Series Transformers: Prime)

Well then why are we even discussing Predacons Rising? Why did you even make that condescending comment about the fandom forgetting already having a fully-CG non-human animated movie? That's why I was asking what movie you were talking about. If Predacons Rising has nothing to do with Bayverse, then why wouldn't we want a fully animated non-human TF movie taking place on Cybertron that is a prequel to the Bayverse films, like it was stated in the report?Sabrblade wrote:Not every TF movie is Bayverse.Rodimus Prime wrote:I don't remember much about Predacons Rising. While it fits all definitions of a "movie", it could easily have been separated into smaller episodes. By that very definition you could re-edit (and it may have been done) Five Faces of Darkness or More than Meets The Eye into "movies".

As soon as AoE came out, I predicted that Windblade would be in TF 5. But she could also be in this animated prequel as well. If the Machinima animated CW is anything true to the comic, then she will have to be there by default. Yes as is classic Hasbro, we will all be sick of their newest creation because of over exposure, just in time for the next one to come along.

Sorry… Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger! Is that better? How about … Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy’s Critical Moment! I find it amusing that on Wikipedia they have the word imminent misspelled. Unfortunately unless Hasbro ever releases this film in North America (sadly doubtful), or Toei ever comes up with an official English title, it is open to all sorts of interpretation.

I think most people here are discussing use/overuse of the characters Hasbro has created, not so much their alt modes. Besides Drift and Windblade's alt modes aren't any less conspicuous.
Posted by Rodimus Prime on September 22nd, 2015 @ 9:48am CDT
Windblade has never been in the movies, so that doesn't apply to her. And both of Drift's alt modes are much less noticeable than a bright yellow fighter plane would be. Unless Bayverse would deviate from that and give Sunstorm a different color scheme. But then he wouldn't really feel right. Sunstorm needs that bright gold.o.supreme wrote:I think most people here are discussing use/overuse of the characters Hasbro has created, not so much their alt modes. o.supreme wrote:I was going strictly by the comics. Drift's appearance in AoE bears absolutely no resemblance to his IDW persona, either in character, on in alt mode(s). They are for all intensive purposes two completely different characters. If/When Windblade does appear in TF5, she will look and act completely different, as I would imagine Sunstorm would if he ever appeared in a live action film, though since that original character is well over a decade old, and from a portion of TF history most would like to forget (which is why It's a miracle The Fallen was ever chosen as the focus of one film) I doubt they would use Sunstorm. Gotta keep up with "the new", that's what Hasbro does.
Drift wasn't completely different. He was a samurai who valued honor and discipline above most other things. Is that unlike his character in the comics?
And Sentinel Prime was over a decade old, and so was Megatron in the first movie. The only "new" villain they've had was Lockdown.
