The Transformers: The Last Knight toyline is being released worldwide this week and if you are curious to know what is in store if you pick up one of the only two new deluxe molds, Berserker, then I wrote a review with pictures. He is not great, but definitely a step up from Barricade, who was just too small, simple and kibble heavy for my taste. You can read that review here.

Now onto Berserker!

As I said, a definite step up from Barricade in terms of several problems I had. Firstly, he is literally a step up by being a tad bit taller and more in line with what I expect from a deluxe.

Secondly, the deco and paint apps don't leave me wanting that much more. It's not like there are places which badly need paint and nothing seems cheap. I especially like the asymetrical "X" on his chest. It looks like war paint, lending to his more barbarian and predatory design. All his claws (feet and hands) are painted too to distinguish them from the rest of his hands and feet. The silver highlights on his face give him a nice premium feel as well.

Lastly, there is a major improvement over barricade (and other shellformers) in how well the shell folds away. This isn't anything close to the genius of Prime Vehicon, but it is better than TLK Barricade, the AOE Leader Optimus Primes and the movie Sideswipe toys we have gotten in the past. There is a lot of compressing and folding to have as little car parts showing as possible.

Personally though, while it's an improvement over other shellformers, it also becomes the figure's downfall. Since the ROTF line, Takara has improved on its engineering for robots which don't show much of their alt mode. Instead of creating a back pack, the found new techniques that involve either turning the figure inside out (AOE Voyager Hound and Optimus Prime) or fully compressing a backpack (Voyagers AOE Galvatron and TLK Optimus Prime) and minimizing alt mode kibble on the robot. However, here they went the old way which means you have all these overlapping panels all across his back (and protruding above his head) plus some really random looking car details along his arms, like movie Leader Ironhide. Also, the car panels that rest on the back of his legs dont fold flush, which is a bit of a bummer, since it brings further attention to kibble that shouldn't be there.

Oh, speaking of those arm car parts, here's a new complaint: glue is missing. They are "stuck" to the arms due to friction but can drop to the floor at any given instant and will be sure to come off during transformation. Then again, I did complain about them looking random in robot mode so them not being glued means you could remove them no problem for him to look more like the Dreadwind character model. But he probably isn't in the movie anyway (at least not looking like this) so what is the point either way? Moving on, these are not the only parts to come off, the head is really loose and will also come off easily.

Transformers News: Pictorial Review of Transformers: The Last Knight Deluxe Berserker

Aside from the car parts clashing with the rest of the figure, the robot mode isn't bad at all. Nice articulation and very expressive.

Transformers News: Pictorial Review of Transformers: The Last Knight Deluxe Berserker

The shellforming nature of the figure does come to bite it in the butt when you start transforming it. He is actually quite simple but because he has more seperate panels than need connecting than any transformer I can remember (even more than Leader Sentinel Prime), it becomes a very frustrating transformation. There is a lot of panel massaging and multiple panels clipping onto one another at once from different parts. So clipping another panel can undo the previous ones. One odd thing I noticed while transforming was that he has a hole under his crotch and it doesn't serve for anything (maybe a stand? but it looks too small). A little distracting.

Transformers News: Pictorial Review of Transformers: The Last Knight Deluxe Berserker

The shellforming nature means almost none of the robot is visible in car mode and they do succeed here (some robot parts show in the back). You have some panel lines but nothing egregious and if it is transformed correctly, it will all stay together tightly with no gaps. The vehicle appears to look puny at first but it is as long as any other deluxe vehicle. It just looks small because the type of car is usually bigger than a car for a deluxe Transformer. One really cool thing no one has mentioned is how this brings back the pins for the wheels rather than the pressure pegs. He rolls nicely.

In the end, if you were ok with shellformers from the ROTF era, this is pretty much the same thing with a more finicky transformation and parts that fall off. Still, you get a nice looking robot mode and vehicle mode that look nothing like eachother. I personally preffer it to his other new mold wavemate, Barricade, simply because they do a better job with the back pack, deco and don't overly simplify the transformation. However, I still remain unimpressed with this line so far due to its lack of anything new or smart in terms of engineering.

One quick question: what figure does the axe come from?

Once again the vehicle that Berserker turns into was on set briefly.

Image

I only ever saw this on Tfw2005 and I can't find the image anymore and yes this is stuff from TLK filming.

Why would Hasbro make two new molds for Berserker as in the one step changer and the deluxe and both of them have that red X which seems kind of random even this model has it on his chest

Image

Before people go like "He was in the trailer!" No he was not that was Hooligan who turns into a Rusty van and uses the Crowbar model as a base and not the Crankcase model like Berserker does.

Thanks for the review, WJ! After reading through this and watching Optibotimus's review I'm actually considering getting this guy. I feel like gluing the arm panels in and tightening the head shouldn't be a huge issue, and Berserker is just begging to be painted. A lot of silver mixed with black all over him should make all those little details pop nicely. I also actually really like the boxy car parts on him, I'm not a huge fan of the new AoE aesthetic that hides all the characters' car parts. Optimus is still my only must buy, but Berserker is climbing up there a little. Can't wait to pick up a Prime on Monday!

It was definately the predator head con i saw in the trailer. You get a clear slow mo shot of it.

I'd like to see some comparison to his dotm figure.

Also, i find it humorous the voyagers for wave 1 and 2 are the same characters in the same order as aoe. Again, uk will probably skip hound and galvmegatron until the following year, if aat all. Lol. But that's ok, prime is the only one i want.

Our friends over at TFW2005 have been able to find out more information about the glyphs we've been seeing on figures and instructions sheets across the Transformers: The Last Knight toyline, and may have confirmed a retailer exclusive (probably Toys'R'Us again, which is not good news internationally) sub-line for the movie toys: Mission to Cybertron.

The site was able to screencap instructions of a Glyph Decoder, then immediately taken down by Hasbro, then more 'decodable glyphs' appeared on the likes of Skullitron, Nitro and Megatron, and Infernocus and Quintessa. Now, fallen-revenge has found a promotional banner for Mission to Cybertron at a Toys'R'Us store in the US, making the speculation just that little more concrete! Check it out below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub.

If your talking about the "dread" in the trailer that is not Berserker it's Hooligan since he has rusty van parts and Crowbar's head which is not the same.

So no its not the "predator" con when I get access to my computer later I can link the pictures of him which shows that Berserker is in none of the shots.

Some further leaks for our regular friends on Weibo bring us some more artwork for the Transformers: The Last Knight packaging - and we get a new look at Hot Rod, plus Bumblebee, and an expanded version of the Megatron vs Optimus Prime we saw here.

Two characters per mock-up may very well indicate two packs, as teased in the Cybertron 2 Pack Deluxe listings seen back here, in combination with the Mission to Cybertron news from earlier today. In any case, take a look below, and join the conversation in the Energon Pub!

Ok, so that head on Optimus looks a wee bit toooooooo big in that first poster.

2nd, Will, your reviews are having the opposite effects that you are writing about. I wanted Barricade, and then I wanted Beserker and then decided to not get him, but then your review made me want him again. He looks cool, I love the details on him, and his head and chest are awesome

My apologies. I paused the trailer and studied who i was thinking of. Definately not beserker. Or crowbar. Or anyone else I recognise. It was the group Prime beheads at the end of the trailer who I was thinking of. It looked like he had th shoulder spikes too but pausing it, I can see its completely different.

Speculation here but perhaphs the honey comb stuff is a "cage" to keep Cybertron under check or something regardless if it's "alive" or something is controlling it.

Then again besides the first bit of DOTM and the Tf 2007 flashback scene we don't see much of Cybertron's surface and we never seen it's underground areas.

It's probably smaller because getting half the planet torn apart at the end of DOTM probably made the planet half size.

I'm still just hoping I can find what I want at Target tomorrow. Considering lately when Hasbro releases stuff (Star Wars and I've noticed Marvel especially) there's a release of several figure lines/waves on the same day - Marvel Legends X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 were released at the same time a month or so ago. My that logic (and I'm completely prepared to be wrong) since Last Knight stuff is released tomorrow and Titans Return and Last Knight preorders finally hit BBTS estimated for tomorrow we might actually finally get TR wave 4 too. That's what I'm counting on, anyway.

I knew they were going with more expensive pricing with these new figures, but $20 for deluxes and $30 for Voyagers, with no apparent rise in quality or paint apps/deco is a no go for me. I get that materials don't cost the same forever and ever, but a jump that high is a jump TOO high. Not when TR figures were $15 at retail.

Sounds about right. Hot Rod is the one I see most often but Twinferno is right behind him. I only got/wanted Hot Rod and Triggerhappy, so waiting for wave 4 has been torture - I want 3/5 of those guys.

Good idea, but I'll leave you with this. The reason twonfwrno peg warms is because he has little customization potential, over packing, and spotty QC, not to mention the bland color scheme for younger audiences looking at him at a store. I'm guessing this will happen with wave 1 bee and slash, especially since you can't even generic army build unlike Berserker and to a lesser extent, Barricade. (Also in cal TLK deluxes are $21 and I don't want to know how much voyagers are)

I completely agree. I did initially want Twinferno, he looked cool and I'm pretty sure he was on the Lost Light. The bad beast mode pegs and, like you said, dull colors put me off and I bought Triggerhappy instead. I don't regret that one bit.

I think TLK deluxes are supposed to be $20 now unfortunately, and Voyagers $30. I'd guess voyagers will be marked up to maybe $32-33 or so if it's similar to your deluxes, and that just plain sucks. There's a reason (outside of mold reuse) that I'm only buying like 4 of the Last Knight toys.

For all the retailers that were able to stick to the street date embargo for Transformers: The Last Knight, today 24th April 2017 is the official start of movie toy season on plastic figurine hunting grounds! Below, you can find a round-up of the stores (online and brick-and-mortar) which have already shown us where the toys are available.

As always, make sure you flag up toy in the (fully up to date) Sightings Database when you come across them in a store, it really helps other collectors in the area - and don't forget to join the regional discussion threads here!

I've had a tradition since ROTF where I would get the deluxe Bumblebee for the new movie in the first day they came out, but I don't think I can continue that since the wave 1 Bumblebee isn't what he looks like in the movie. I'll wait for the new mold Bumblebee later this year.

Rats, same for me! I'd check later in the day if you can manage though, one of my Targets I called said they had a couple boxes, but they weren't out on the shelf yet. I'm going to recheck mine in a couple hours on my way to Toys R Us. Fred Meyer was even worse, they said they had some new figures but weren't putting them out until tomorrow because they didn't have space on a shelf, and I'm going to go visit my parents out of state tonight! If I get lucky maybe I'll find something over there if I can't get what I want today.

Thanks Hasbro, thanks for making it SUCK to be a UK tf fan.

Well since the toys are out, I look forward to people sharing their thoughts. Am I the only one who is unimpressed with these?

There are 3 new molds in wave 1 (in terms of non gimmick toys) and in order of best to worst I would say:

Voyager Optimus Prime
Deluxe Berserker
Deluxe Barricade

We've got more to add to the absolute tidal wave that has been TLK toy news today. This time we've got some additional images of everyone's favorite Predator-looking lad, One Step Beserker! Via an Amazon listing for the currently unavailable figure, we have new stock photography as well as confirmation the B-zerk is indeed Gamma Ray, the last placeholder product code name. Other Amazon Listings also confirm that Pluto was one-step Megatron and Lunar eclipse was One Step Grimlock. Check out the new photos below, featuring his slightly more generic, unlicensed vehicle mode!

Soooo... I just returned from my local Toys'R'Us. Here was my experience:

Walking down the aisle, I saw they did in-fact have the Voyagers and Knight Armor Turbo Changers , as well as the voice changer helmet. I grabbed both voyager Optimus and Grimlock, went to the register, and the cashier told me she couldn't sell me them. I was very puzzled. According to Toys'R'Us, they are street dated for June 23rd, the day the movie comes out. I said to her it must be a mistake. She got the attention of the manager, and sure enough, he confirmed in the system it said all of their Last Knight merchandise was street dated for June 23rd. I brought up the post on here and other websites regarding the April 24th street date release, as well as made the argument if everything was street dated for June 23rd... why are all the toys on the shelves ready to sell? The manager agreed it was odd and looked into the matter more. Thankfully, he apologized for the confusion and gave the cashier the okay to sell me both.

It also seems like Target and Wal-Marts still haven't gotten the memo in my area yet either. The Target and Wal-Mart nearest me having nothing Last Knight related. My area being South Florida. Did the street date get pushed back? or is Kremzeek running around causing havok?https://www.seibertron.com/energonpub/posting.php?mode=reply&f=4&t=107247#

Anyone else run into a similar issue?

Thanks for sharing your experience, it is odd. It looks like an error in dates since there have been several TRU stores that show a April 24th street date (mine did) when scanning the box. What is weird to me is that it means the coding of the cash terminals is not centralized. or else everyone would be showing the same date.

Which toys did you buy? and remember to share your thoughts here when you get the chance.

Yep, not a single figure at any Targets in my area (outside of one my friend is checking at for me, but there's a good chance all the Last Knight stuff is gone) or my Toys R Us. Since I'm in a different state tomorrow I figured I'd check my hometown - Target only had Bee left (called a couple hours after they opened) and Toys R Us hadn't opened their boxes yet. They offered to call me back once they did, and I asked them to if they had the voyager Optimus. They finally called after maybe 15 minutes - no Prime. Then they called back again and said they found one. The woman on the phone seemed a bit reluctant - something about hold policy - but said she'd hold onto him for me and I'll do my best to get over there in the morning. I'll take a couple pictures once I (hopefully) open him up.

Today's been a frustrating mess of checking 5 different stores with no luck, I'm glad something went right, even if awkwardly so.

I for one will not be buying a single toy from this line and personally i think everyone should boycott it, these prices are ridiculous and have no justification. Clearly this is hasbro trying to take advantage of its consumer again, it would be one thing if the quality was better but from what ive seen and heard its not. Plus if these sell i guarantee the rest of the other lines will be repriced to match effectively screwing over a lot of people.

Haha, and better yet, several are the exact same toys we have already gotten.

I am still buying them, but at a discount.

Also, boycotting a line could just send the message that TF toys dont sell which could end the line (which was almost the case back in 1993).

So at least by buying at a discount I am sending the message that I will buy your toys, but at a certain price.

My local Toys R Us only had Optimus and Grimlock. I picked up an Optimus, but I was looking forward to seeing Barricade. My area never has shit. I'm centuries ahead of everyone on the planet, but everyone around me is always 5 years behind everyone else. We still never got Titans Return Optimus or Megatron here.

I'm sure with these being widely distributed there will be plenty of sales just as there has been with RID & TR & Rescue Bots in the last year.

I will be getting the toys but not at the initial retail price while i'm waiting for the prices to drop a bit I'll be pondering some Japanese toys and some third party items i'd like to get such as Dream factory's Movie Bonecrusher leaderclass scale toy - which looks gorgeous.

But I recall how AOE Leader Optimus and Grimlock ended up being reduced to something like £16.99 & the First Edition one was out in Clearance places for under £20.00 so I can't see a reason to go running to the store - i'm sure the 1 steps will be on sale pretty quickly in the UK - heck they are on sale price already in America.

Titans Returns Dlx toys are supposed to be £19.99 - yet few stores sell them for that - I suspect the high prices won't last then they can mark them down as 30% or 50% off and be telling the truth about it.

Heck I'm mildly irked with myself for not waiting on TR Soundwave who is now £19.99 Cheaper than a Combiner Wars Skywarp is.

I think they will come down to £15.99 very quickly and then drop again to £12.50 later.

The only problem is sometimes a wave 1 item can be a swine to get cheap as the sales don't hit hard till wave 2 or 3. But usually the Amazon or ebay price has reduced by then so that compensates a lot.

If I find I have a Movie toy itch I can always buy some Wei Jiang Overscale Dinos or That Striker Prime I still don't have one of.

I'm actually much keener to get TR wave 4 anyway.

i dont see the point of griping or boycotting hasbro over the price hike. it isnt the first time this has happened. iirc deluxes used to be $7-10 in 2007 and then up to 15. so why start complaining now. it isnt gonna start a linewide price increase its just because of the movie and its "premier edition."

want cheaper prices go to walmart
they have deluxes for 15.83 and voyagers for 26. something

barricade can use his backpack as a shield but only with the circle gun thing applied
