We seem to have some news concerning the Takara Tomy Transformers Legends line, after the unification of the brand with same releases between the Japanese company and Hasbro - as detailed here - via a summary on the Snakas blog of hobby and action figure magazine Hyper Hobby, and the section concerning Transformers. Below is a machine translation of the post, but the highlight appears to be something regarding Takara Tomy Mall and Legends, leading to believe that we may still indeed see Japanese exclusive decos and minor retools - but only as exclusives.

Take a read for yourselves below, or head here for the original Japanese post, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

TF related to Hyper Hobby released today is 2 pages in color.

◆ Power of the Prime Japanese version Introduction of products from June to July.

Basically it looks like a new photo. The introductory text itself is not particularly novelty content, but regarding the PP series, it seems to be a policy to release all kinds with the worldwide common specification.

In relation to that, with regard to the future of the TF Legends of the current series, there is a description that "Takara Tomy Mall will be continued around the center".

By the way, with regard to the coalescing function of the dreaddwind and black wing, it was not mentioned here as well.

◆ Other, Introduction of 4 types of the first turbo change series, MP-34S Shadow Panther. Basically posted in advertisement materials.

There is nothing to do with Transformers, but articles about Shincarion 's toys are 3 pages in color, of which 1 page is an interview article on development staff of TakaraTomy. There is a description that development of Shinkallion toy went while consulting with the TF team.

Can't wait to pay an arm and a leg, and another leg for TT Mall exclusives.

There should be a couple wallet Emojis.

The figures we got for Headmasters were more than slight retools. If the quality is going to take a step back but the price remains the same or higher, I don't see myself buying Takara products again. I am still holding out hope for a new Super Ginrai.

It seems that instead of Takara specific TFs being regular, with Ehobby, Million Publishing and TT Mail being exclusives, we now have Hasbro TFs being standard, with (some) MPs, and other exclusives being reserved for TT Mail and online?

Thats what it looks like. Their take on the TLK line was a good hint of things to come.

I've preordered all of the first two waves of these toys. However, if the content for wave 1 is identical to Hasbro's, I might cancel wave 2 and order the rest of the line from BBTS. If Takara are going to charge more for less, they've lost me as a customer for these toys.

Mind you, I don't think they care. I get the impression that TT have given up trying to push TFs as a main toyline for Japanese kids. Selling rebadged Hasbro stock for the main shops, while selling their previous style recoloured Legends figures now as "TT Mall exclusives" for collectors seems as cost effective as they can be.

What do you mean by that? Apart from differences in paint and the occasional remolded part the figures were the same quality as the hasbro ones. It's not like Takara used different plastics.

Is that cheaper? Shipping must be a real pain. Plus with BBTS for wave two, they dont let you buy figures individually, you have to buy the whole case of deluxes (and end up with doubles).

Plus, you can buy Snarl from amiami for the same price as BBTS and I am certain shipping within japan from amiami is cheaper than shipping from the US

Actually, you've just solved a problem for me! I didn't actually know a place that had better shipping rates for 3P and Hasbro toys to Japan! Is that the best/cheapest place to go for Japan based customers?

If so, then just inside "Amiami" instead of bbts. However, i hope amiami accepts credit cards. I refuse to use a PayPal account.

EDIT: - Scratch that. It seems that, if Snarl is anything to go by, it's cheaper to get them domestically from Amazon Japan. However, your message prompted me to go to Amazon Japan, where I realised I didn't pre-order Snarl or Grimlock. Were they in the same wave as the other Dinobots? If not, then they are out now at Amazon Japan for preorder.

There are a few and you have to compare. Amiami is the one I used a lot and i used Nippon Yassan as well. There is also anime export (but I think, as the title suggests, they are more for exports), HLJ and Big in Japan. I dont know which use credit cards since I always use paypal.

Amazon Japan has the best deals for MP toys it seems but they can also be good for some mainline toys as well. They were the cheapest place for movie toys last year.

The big question is if this is true then are we talking short term during the PotP run or long term for the foreseeable future?

AmiAmi usually has the best Japanese prices online with large discounts. Why wouldn't you just assign your credit card to PayPal if you're willing to pay by card? Regardless, they do accept cards.

Cheers folks. It seems though, that for these toys, Amazon is cheaper. It's free shipping, after all, whereas the others need international shipping and then domestic shipping fees. If the Hasbro versions where different, I usually use BBTS but they're doesn't seem much point. HLJ are great but I think they only sell Japanese stuff, not foreign stuff in Japan?

For the bolded part, are you talking Hasbro or Takara Power of the Primes? 'Cause I just looked and it appears only singles of Takara are available (with many sold out), and on the Hasbro side, you can still just preorder Wave 2 sets, no duplicates, of all of the size classes including deluxes, with a few individual ones available (like Rodimus Unicronus). Or was the comment in reference to something else? Image

I am talking about Hasbro only. Because since the guy asking a question is in Japan, I wouldnt think he would buy Takara figures from BBTS and have them ship to Japan.

Hence why all of these questions confuses the fuck out of me. They are the same toys. So if you are in the US, buy the Hasbro release from a US retailer. And if you are in Japan, buy the takara release from a Japanese retailer. I have no clue why anything else would be considered.

Also, this is the Legends thread. So, let this be the end of the POTP discussion here. If anyone wants to continue it or respond, then simply quote this and copy paste it in the POTP thread.

basically the only part that interested me. I'm glad the line is not going away entirely, but it may just focus on the occasional MP, or classic reissue. I'd love to open up the possibility of UW coming back, but I seriously, seriously doubt it.

At this point, dear Readers, Primal forgot to read the part of William's post that stated "COPY AND PASTE YOUR REPLIES TO THE OTHER THREAD", and carried on, regardless, in this thread, including a wry attempt at humour about merging the threads, oblivious to the consequences that were yet to come. Let's see what happened next!

Little did our hero know, but William had pressed the Sibertron panic button, only recently fixed after Primal's last "Not-S@k@mo@o-Gate" shenanigans. This button, imbued with the scent of white chocolate Timtams lace with Vegemite, roused the sleeping form of Burn, Primal's nemesis, from the land of criminals and eaters of kangaroos

Still oblivious to, what must have been now blindingly obvious to even the slowest of wits, Primal soldiered on, showing a nice picture of Grimlock, which he was sure would lighten everyone's mood.

It did not.

Yeah, I think the confusion comes in with the possibility that mayhaps some of these PotP designs will hopefully still make it into the Legends toy line as exclusives, with better paint and maybe some remolding.

But, I heard somewhere that hope is just undiscovered disappointment.... :-s

It is. Rereleasing the entire POTP line with slightly better paint apps as TTmall exclusives wont happen.

The quote was pretty simple, there will still be some legends releases as TTmall exclusives. We are already seeing that since the last Legends releases so far on schedule are indeed these TTmall exclusives like Greatshot and Grand Max. It will be stuff like that (different characters and whatnot).

And should there be TakaraTomy exclusive PotP (anything beyond Titans Return) redecos, they're in the TakaraTomy PotP line, plain and simple. Apply the logic from the Movie lines.

Back to Legends being repurposed as an exclusive line, after Great Shot and Grand Maximus, I wonder what's next? We still have a Black Shadow and Ptero that are unused, plus some Legends head and Titan Master face plates.

See this primalxconvoy? You upset a Canadian. A CANADIAN. Those guys are so freaking chilled.

You were asked by a staff member to end the POTP discussion in this thread, there's a perfectly good thread for POTP discussion.

You've been pulled up multiple times for posting off-topic, I don't know what your problem is, part of me suspects you're just being a smartarse to try to get under the skin of staff, I know it's not because you're stupid, you're definitely not that.

So consider this your last chance. Stay on-topic, follow staff directives, or warnings ensure.

Australians are chilled, too, Burn, and I work with a Canadian. Nice but he keeps adding "A" to all the words he teaches. It's bad enough that Japanese people put "o" or "u" in the end of everything, but after they've been with him, they say "Harro-AY", and "Beri-AY gudo-AY"... ;) *

Anyway, I'm honestly confused now. Where do I talk about the Japanese POTP figures?

Until any TakaraTomy exclusives come rolling about, right here:

Power of the Primes Leaks, Rumors, Reveals and More

The Hasbro and TakaraTomy lines have no changes between them (bet that's a surprise), so there's no real point of having two threads for essentially the same figures in two different territories.

Forgive me if someone has pointed this out before. It just occurred to me earlier this evening to compare Universe 2008 Cyclonus' Targetmaster, Nightstick, to the new Targetmasters released by Takara for the Transformers Legends line. They actually scale almost perfectly with one another, to my delight! Nightstick does look just ever so slightly out of step in terms of aesthetics with the newer crop of figures, not having quite as much sculpting detail as the current offerings, but he's no sore thumb. So, feel free to proudly display your Cyclonus with Nighstick, or any other uses of the mold, like with Million Publishing Artfire with Nightstick and Stepper/Ricochet with Nebulon Nighstick, alongside the rest of The Headmasters cast of Targetmasters. Now I just need to find a redeco of Nightstick that works as Fracas for Scourge. Artfire's Nighstick would be perfect, but he's already taken. If you're confused by all the different figures called Nightstick, then this might help?

Back on the topic of Legends exclusives...

Besides Buster and Hydra, I'm really hoping they crank out a new pair of Artfire and Stepper. They have the molds in the factory to do it (ie. the new Inferno and Jazz)... plus they've quite deliberately left out the targetmaster partners from their characters in all of the recent Takara releases. This gives me a shred of hope.

The notion of a white/red core body is quite appealing. I can slap all of those Botcon Ratchets on an Artfire body for a beautiful all white medic gestalt.

Now if we can just pry some names out of them for all these new gestalt characters. :-?

Anyone else have a good educated guess about a good upcoming Legends exclusive? Come on. Get my imagination going this morning.

I would not mind a Stepper and Artfire either. I have the MP Artfire and SG Stepper, but it would be fun to get them in combiner form too. Now if only we could get them with combining targetmasters for the combined form...

And since those 2 are kind of the exclusive targetmasters, it would be cool to pair them together in a combiner and have the targetmasters attach, sort of like Scoop, but better

I would not buy Sixknight or Quickswitch repaint at a premium because they are NOT supposed to be the same mold at all. Thank goodness I have Fansproject X-6 Knight as a proper Sixknight.

My take is from what it looks like since half of the members here dont understand who calls the shots we wont be getting ant Takara repaints or remolds henceforth unless its done under the Legends banner as a TT Mall exclusive.

Now that you have seen the proof lets hope we get a Hydra and Buster repaint for starters maybe as a 2 pack TT Mall exclusive.

I was pretty pleased with the Quickswitch retool. There are some decent fan modes that feel more like a boat, etc. Color and head sculpt do help convince you it's another character.

Ehhhh. I'd buy a Sixknight.

I would love to see a :TAKARATOMY: mall version of any PotP figure, but as has been established, they are staying the same as :HASBRO: . I imagine we will probably see more things like reissues of old figures at exorbitant prices. Since God Fire Convoy is getting a re-released, I'd imagine the next would be perhaps Convoy from the Micron Legend series (Maybe a Convoy, Jetfire, Magnus set?) or perhaps an original Victory Saber re-release? Things like that.

I seriously doubt they would release Black Shadow (from TR Sky Shadow) or Sixknight (From TR Quickswitch) seeing as how neither one is accurate to the original.

I'm still holding onto irrationality. I'm hoping for some crazy reason, takara decides to redeco sky Shadow as thunderwing and chop off his horns.

Since Takara will still be doing some of the exclusives, I wonder if they will redo Primal down the road as Primal Prime :-? That would be something cool to have happen

That would be more Hasbro doing it. Its a Hasbro idea and was only sold in Japan as a USA edition.

Is there any precedent for Takara doing an exclusive based on a Hasbro exclusive toy?

I guess going through the Armada Trilogy Convoy combinations would not be a bad thing. But if God Fire Convoy is anything to go buy, the prices will not be very friendly.

Not sure a $300+ dollar Encore Micron Legend Magna Jet Convoy is all that desirable.

Oh I agree completely, but like you I am just going off of trends. I'm glad I got my tax refund because 2 titans coming roughly the same time (Metroplex reissue and Grand Max) are going to set me back quite a bit.

I really like God Fire Convoy (makes me wish I would have kept my original RiD Optimus & Ultra Magnus), but no way, not for $270, no matter what cool new *features* it may have. Its not desirable to me, but somebody at :TAKARATOMY: must have thought it would be a good idea. I imagine the same would be for Micron Legend, they could wait until 2022 (4 years) for the 20th anniversary, but who knows what the toy market will be like by then.

My gut wants to say "yes", but I'd have to think about what it was as it probably was a one-off or rare instance. :-?

They can sweeten the pot by adding proper Prime Masters of Hydra and Buster with engine backpacks.

God Fire Convoy was released because it's a figure that would be very difficult to do better. It's a step below an MP and miles above anything Hasbro would make in Generations. However, Armada and Energon Primes could definitely be improved on in Generations, especially super-pants Prime and his self transforming trailer.

Excluding Masterpiece Sunstorm and Acid Storm, the Classic Autobot Targetmasters, Deadlock...

Nope, can't really find any, usually it's the other way around.

Nope, can't really find any, usually it's the other way around.

And even then, not all of those count. We are asking about takara exclusives and not only is Acid storm not exclusive, its not even a Takara rendition but a Hasbro one, just like Primal Prime was.

And Deadlock is not homaging a previous Hasbro toy.

Plus, the legends autobot targetmasters we got recently were not exclusives in Japan. You could have sais the recent noble/savage and black shuffler redecos too, it all fits in the same bill but none of those were exclusives.

And Hasbro also had their own MP Sunstorm, so while the deco was different, it wasnt an exclusive character redeco Hasbro didnt get.

So yeah, looks like none. So, if Primal Prime turns out to be a TTMall exclusive, that would be the first time ever.
