It is not even clear if Rise of the Beasts will be the number one movie in the US during its opening week-end, with sites like Deadline reporting predictions of similar numbers in the 50M range for both Into the Spider-verse and Transformers Rise of the Beasts.
However, while Transformers Rise of the Beasts has tough competition in the US, Deadline also calculates that it will be the number 1 film worldwide, predicting 155M worldwide. While that number is big, this film needs to be front loaded due to it being sandwiched between Spider-Man and the Flash (well, more like Keaton's Batman), which is quite the coincidence since this happened with Bumblebee back in 2018 which also had to deal with the previous Spider-verse and a DC property (Aquaman). It's really up in the air though with big factors like word of mouth, and China's box office, that will determine if this film succeeds at the box office or not. You'll let us know what you think and we'll come back Sunday evening with the actual numbers to see how accurate these predictions were and who was the champion of the US box office.

Basically, films with strong word of mouth get As and the ones that that don't have that get Bs and anything below is dead on arrival, when it comes to big budget films. Most Marvel films in the past have gotten at least an A-, but that changed in phase 4 where Eternals and the latest films from the Doctor Strange, Ant-man and Thor franchises have gotten a B+ or less. Well, Transformers Rise of the Beasts has scored an A- Cinemascore and that is excellent news. It beats out all those Marvel films we mentioned as well as The Last Knight which had a B+.

Maybe the rooms are truly full at night after 6PM.

For the Transformers franchise, it's even an inverse relation at times. And this can be said for the box office at large. A better predicter for success is Cinemascore. This is basically the equivalent to word of mouth but through standardized surveys. These have become almost binary even though they are on a gradient.

This is solely my own armchair analysis but since I started reviewing movie toys with Age of Extinction, I have noticed a gradual but steady decline in interest as well as shorter windows of interest. As it is with ROTB, I'm not getting close to the views I did with Bumblebee movie toys which were far, far bellow TLK and AOE.

I went to a 6:10 showing last night with two friends. It was just us and two other people. Looked like everyone was going to Across the Sipder-verse. I'm rural, maybe it's doing better in cities?

I saw the movie on Friday, June 9, at 6:15pm. The room was full of people. From annoying little kids to middle-aged beer-drinkers. Nearly every seat in the room was filled, and it was one of the building's larger theater rooms.FiddlerUndone wrote:-Kanrabat- wrote:william-james88 wrote:-Kanrabat- wrote:I went to see the movie yesterday but I was surprised to see that the room are barely 2/3 full. It definitely will, it will also make Primal a household name to kids, which is awesome. Working on a few articles at the moment, lots of good news and goodies coming your way.

I shouldn't be too harsh on ROTB WJ though, seems like most people who saw the movie felt far less animity towards the character at the end. But I don't think I read anyone like him though.

Seems like a top 3 for most people, including myself. I just don't know if I'd place it above or below the 2007 film. This has more Transformers "stuff" in it, nut the 2007 film did a good job at presenting this world on a real setting. It's not the ideal format for a Transformers film but it's still a well realized vision.

Wow even I thought it would hit $100M this weekend domestically and then make a 60%-70% drop next weekend allowing Spiderverse to maintain the number 2 spot while Flash takes #1. Such is the way of studios that continue to make half-@ssed, poorly written action films surrounded by other possibly better action films this Summer...

Frankly Hasbro was screwed by this movie placement. If this were separated from either Spider-man or The Flash by a couple weeks, I think there would be a huge difference and it WOULD have hit $100 million domestic. As it is, sounds like the global is in the neighborhood of $150 mill. They should have gone with memorial day weekend or the week before if they wanted better box office domestically.
Posted by william-james88 on June 12th, 2023 @ 12:21am CDT
While these numbers aren't amazing as they once were, remember that Dark of the Moon opened to 97 M domestically, the numbers do show that whatever stain there may have been in the past which lead to disappointing returns for The Last Knight and Bumblebee might be in the past. The domestic numbers are 3 times what they were for Bumblebee 5 years ago, proving that there is still a a demand from these films, and not just from fans. The reason these numbers surpass industry estimates is due to the higher number of tickets that were bought on the spot in proportion to presale tickets (which are largely purchased by fans), when compared to Super-hero movies. This means that Transformers really is in a league of its own, appealing to general movie goers rather than simply being backed by a big fanbase. And that happens to be exactly what Paramount was going for, with it's vague sense of continuity and choosing to not distance themselves too much from familiarity and the live action movie brand and aesthetic.
Another really important point is that the diversity angle did pay off. The film did heavily market its inclusion of people of colour and the breakdown of ticket sales shows that, domestically, it was people identifying as Hispanic which made up the largest viewership. This has never happened before for a Transformers film. Here is a full breakdown:
32% Hispanic
31% Caucasian
21% Black
16% Asian/Other
While this is all good news, no one can predict how the Flash will perform next week. Next week's box office performance will let us have a better idea of how strong this film's box gross can be and we'll keep you up to date on it.

The flash coming next week is probably going to squash it. It's a shame. Because all stuff with Keaton Batman looks great but Ezra Miller is a creep and I'm not giving my support to anything with him.

Could still be on the table as an elseworlds thing, which is an aspect of the brand James Gunn wants to dive deeper in.

With it not getting a full release in Australia until June 22, I may as well save my money (and wear and tear on the car) and just wait for a digital release.
And if it's not released digitally in Australia, then I go back to my old ways and pirate it. We're a nation of pirates founded on the backs of criminals, this is what happens when you delay releases just for a few extra school holiday dollars.

The only issue is that movie critics are as full of sh!te as an average politician. Most are simply there for the shock quality, others are there for "dedication to the art". Very few are there for "Is this movie fun or entertaining?" There's simply no money in that and you can't make a name for yourself by being nice. So pretty much all reviews are trash.

I have a tendency to agree. Rotten Tomatoes has been suspected of altering and removing reviews for a long time. Nonetheless, I still haven't heard anything from the professional shills, naysayers, or fanboys that make this movie any more appealing than the myriad of teasers and trailers we've seen so far. I know several places where I can get a hamburger that I'll enjoy more and pay less for than a ticket to this. Ironically, I do wish this thing some measure of success as it keeps the brand alive as my participation in it wanes.

If it helps, my PERSONAL review is that it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie, definitely worth price of admission. It feels very much like the old Saturday morning cartoons I grew up with, fun and slightly over the top while not being to top-heavy. Some of the camera angles and shots are really good and the bots look FAR more polished than any of the other movies. Mirage is a great entertainer to hook kids, Prime is very Prime-y with a lot of homesickness and guilt for being marooned on Earth incorporated. The humans are non-intrusive, just advancing the plot enough when needed. The focus is very much on the bots. In my mind, on a par with the Bee movie and fun.
Hope this helps.

I absolutely hate Wheeljack's accent. Just can't get over it, it sounds awful.
Airazor's voice sounds less terrible, they choose her worst lines for the trailers, but still not that great.
