I paid about $70.00 back here in the USA at my local TRU a couple years back. And it came with a crown, sword, and gun. Granted mine didnt come with the Computron brain thing or the stupid waiters apron and tray, but $150.00 more for a re-release of the Hasbro version ??? This is not the Takara version...

Judging by the lack of the paint app on the arms, I'd say it very much is.

Well that's a bit of a jump. I remember the 1st time it was issued here it was around $160US.

Just to clarify, is this the Tomy Takara or the Hasbro international version? The OP used a pic reference of the MP-08 so I'd assume that the MP-08 version is much more expensive than the Hasbro release. So why then can't this be not the MP-08?

On the other hand, I just don't like the obsolete T-Rex proportions, although I FULLY UNDERSTAND that that's the point of the MP line; to recreate a perfected version of the G1 toy while staying as close to the original designs as possible. Just a personal peeve of mine.
I agree with everyone else that 220 is pretty damn steep, but seeing as everything else has also become more expensive....

I could not see Grimlock in any other form except that antiquated rendering of his beast mode
His "realistic" Classic mode made him look.....well more like a Tarzan which I don't dig........maybe a more Fred Flinstone look that we all love.
As for the price
Mkall wrote:I'm not even sure this is legit. I'm not getting any of my hopes up until I see preorders.
50% 50% chance perhaps?
But the price being quoted is in Malaysian currency. Has anybody bothered to consider that there might be a bit of price padding there? Or just an estimate that is?

The only thing we can realistically do at this point it to comment on the given estimate, which I have to say is very unfavorable.

Hasbro Asia has been on a reissue trend, particularly with pieces that made it to the Commemorative Series line. And even then, "Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor" was said to have received a downgrade in terms of packaging.
So with "Masterpiece" Grimlock... I will say that this rumor is plausible. However, I think that it will be more like the Hasbro version than the Takara Tomy version, seeing how Hasbro has that version at their disposal.
Oh, and speaking of Takara Tomy, Metroplex debuted in the latest chapter of ALL SPARK. So it is safe to release the Kraken of a rumor that their Generations line is part of ALL SPARK, and that they wil also release the new version of Metroplex. (Also, they have promoted Fortress Maximus - Master Sword and all.)
fenrir72 wrote:So why then can't this be not the MP-08?
Because Hasbro Asia will only put out Hasbro's version, and can add to the price due to it becoming an import? Besides, I have one friend that is a collector, and he claims that the Hasbro version is a bit more series accurate. That, and the Hasbro version included the crown that came with the MP-8X variant.
Now, for the rest of us that do not buy Hasbro, we have to play the waiting game and see if Takara Tomy will do the same (which is highly unlikely).

I shall not pay over 100 usd for a masterpiece Grimlock.
If Hasbro doesn't reissue it for the normal 70 price then I won't be getting it.
Overpriced Takara stuff always gets me additional importtax which will make the damn
thing closer to 350 in total. That's to much.

220$ plus possibly 50$ of shipping, and it's still going to be nearly 300$.
I dont like Grimlock enough to caugh up that much cash for him.
At least, the ones who really want him... well... will still have to sell a kidney for him.
How is it "good" news again?

LOL I make no defenses for Classics Grimlock--not exactly a pretty sight, even for Grimlock.
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of FoC Grimlock. He's a great figure, despite the hollow dino belly. Just imagine the awesomeness of him after being bumped up to an MP fig, with a much larger budget and better engineering.

fenrir72 wrote:But the OP used the MP-08 reference pic
It's a reference tied to this rumor. Chances are, you will see the the Hasbro version be reissued in Hasbro Asia packaging. Or that it was a Takara Tomy re-release that is coinciding with a Hasbro Asia release.
So like they said, take it as a rumor.

220 would be way more affordable than anywhere else you'd be able to find him right now.
BTW Would this Hasbro-Asia version have the sharp teeth or rounded ?

JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Wait... what valuta exactly is MYR? Ah, Malaysian Ringgit. Are prices always that high over there?
Yes, most of the time. A 13 USD (approx. 39 MYR) deluxe TF in the USA would cost about 59.90 MYR here (approx. 20 USD). A Takara version would cost almost double that amount.
The only consolation we have here is that shipping costs less to import stuff here from Japanese online stores, than it would cost for someone to import to the US.

In theory, this should reset the prices to $220. Of course there are shipping costs etc to consider, but if i had an MP Grimlock on eBay, I'd reconsider the pricing to be reflect this announcement once it is released. On the other hand, you could always hold onto it and wait for the rush to subside then jack the price back up. If you've got the dosh, buy it is my suggestion.

Almost the same in Europe then. As my folks would say: "Still wet even when not peed on".

That is terrible news. The price is on par or higher than the scalping price on eBay.
So shouldn't the price be much lower? Hasbro-Asia pricing the item at that much is border-line criminal and shady.

Considering the warm and humid climate here, that saying is disturbingly fitting!
