Sparkplug of SGCollect has some information that should be shared with everyone.
Confirmed: MP-08 Grimlock 13000 Yen
ETA: March 2009
The other rumor is that the next in the Alternity line is Destron Leader Megatron featuring Nissan Fairlady Z. This figure, like Convoy, comes in two colors. Silver and Blue.
No date or price range is given and I'm sure more that one fan wants the Nissan Fairlady Z mold, if true, to be Prowl, Streak and Smokescreen.
So what do you, the fan think? Is this true, or like the title says, just a rumor?

I editted it. I suspect DownShift converted Yen to Australian Dollars. You are correct about it being around $130 US Dollars.

Oops, my bad. I did use the Aussie conversion.
Oh well after all's said and done, it'll be more then $200.00

I was waiting all this time for a MP Grimlock, but if it'll really cost that kind of dough I won't be able to get him. Shit I hope I find a job soon.

I hope that Grimlock is taller than MP Prime, at the very least an inch or two.

But i have to wonder which Generation of the Fairlady are we gonna see as megs. I honestly don't see any of the incarnations as megs but the red skyline for convoy surprised me.
As for Grimlock...wouldn't it be interesting if they threw a huge curve-ball and it was TWW grimlock

and about fraggin' time we heard something more about MP Grimmy! Prolly not gonna happen, but here's hoping the other Dinos get MP-fied too!

So, finally, there really is an MP Grimlock. This will be interesting. May possibly be my second MP toy. Let's see if this mold will be good enough to convince me to go back to MP line.

He better be! I'm planning to display him with Robot Hero sharkticons around feet and wearing Universe Wheelie on his head.
And hooray for more Alternity. Depending on how much I like the convoy figures I'm probably going to order both colors of Megatrons as well.

As for Alternity Megatron, we'll see. If I decide to buy Alternity Prime & I like him, I'll most likely buy Megs to go w/him.

And we've all heard the MP grimlock rumor before, specifically last year at this time. I hope it's true, but I'm not holding my breath.

Megatron turns into a hauntingly accurate Walther replica. Starscream, a highly detailed and heavily researched jet. Prime, a crafted copy of a real truck cab. Grimlock, a...robot dinosaur? What?

You have problems with robot dinosaurs? Trypticon, eat him!

I thought about this before, last time I heard the rumours and to be honest, I can't see a robot dino fitting into the world of 10,000+ yen back-boxed hobby-shop-sold toys. Grimlock was never even a popular character here. I'm the last person to say that Transformers are or should be "mature" or "realistic" but I think that at least the Masterpiece line has standards higher than, say, Henkei or Encore.Chaoslock wrote:Diem wrote:Okay, what?

I was under the impression that the Masterpiece line was intended to be the most accurate and detailed toys of the G1 Transformers, not necessarily based on real Alt. modes, just happens to turn out that way. Lets say there is a Masterpiece Rodimus down the road, he didn't have a real-life alt. mode but I'm willing to bet it would be a badass looking car.
I hope they do all 5 Dinobots

They're going to have a hard enough time figuring out what to repaint Grimlock into as it is. You want them to make all 5? I can only imagine what kinds of repaints we'll get from that. I usually buy repaints too, but it's kinda hard to when it comes to MP's
Posted by Diem on October 12th, 2008 @ 11:44pm CDT
Well that's part of the problem; Megs, Prime and Screamer all had real life analogues to draw more accuracy and details from. But unless you take Dreamworks or IDW into account then the most accurate representations of G1 Grimmy are the toy or the Dery model, neither of which has much to work with.DavidT wrote:.

Besides, Grimlock really wasn't popular here and Takara would be pretty much banking on lots of US sales. Far safer for them to make, say, Prowl.

yeah.. I hear ya....
but I doubt there will be any repaints since they are only did one Megatron. He didn't have a repaint like the others.

In any case....rumor. Its all rumor until we see some pictures.

Considering all the fuss about size-changing, realism and using licensed product by the makers of the first film then, yeah. Megatron has immunity it seems, everyone else is stuck with real Earth modes...
...hmm...
...could Grimlock be the X-box bot?

They won't repaint Grimlock because his mould didn't share another personality.
Screamer and prime were obvious choices. Megatron won't get one, unless e-hobby does a diaclone version. But they won't, because it would be a huge waste of money.

Correct. This has been the Hasbro-Takara strategy for a time now. We should not encourage them to continue this milking-cow scheme.

Since wen is the MP Seeker mold the most G1 accurate mold of those characters?

Although Skywarp is beautiful. Both the plane mould and colors. I can forgive a little shortcomings on the robot mode.
Posted by mandingo_rex on October 13th, 2008 @ 12:26pm CDT
The MP line is the BEST thing to happen to Transformers, since they first debuted.
They are all the most-detailed, best-designed, and most-accurate TRANSFORMING versions of the G1 characters to ever hit mass market.
I think they're amazing. I can't wait for MP Grimlock, if it's true.
Each one has had it's own focus in its design, to make it the best overall version of itself to date.
Prime was focused on to make it the best animated form in robot mode, and while people bitched about the vehicle mode, I still swear up and down it's pretty damned good for a truck that turns into THAT awesome of a cartoon-accurate robot mode. Sure, it's not accurate to a Freightliner, but it's easily recognizable as a truck. Who leaves MP Prime in truck-mode long anyways? I sure as hell don't.
Starscream, while the first color choice WAS bad, was designed to be a more accurate jet, which I have no problem with. Other than his size (I wish he was bigger) and original color (The Hasbro cartoon-accurate color was much better, although I think the Takara version was painted with better detail), I think the mold is pretty good. I still prefer the original design without the hip "scabbards" hanging off, but it's still better than any Starscream/Seeker mold. EVER. It also makes sense, as they can squeeze at LEAST 2 repaints out of it, if not a retool as the Coneheads. And, if I'm not mistaken, I think the Starscream MP was supposed to originally be a jet version scaled to the Alternators, but got canned and tucked into the MP line instead? I could be wrong, so many goofy rumours on these boards.
Megatron is 100% pure awesome. I think they wanted to make the original 80's toy "right", but transform so that he looked a lot closer to his cartoon version. I love him, despite his shortcomings. Sure, his legs are fragile and a bit thin, and the cannon is gigantic, and his head may not be "ideal" to each and every fanboy's dream, and "OH NO", he's missing the stock (which JustiToys recreated and fixed the standing/leg weight issue too, and it works fine for me to buy that since Hasbro/Takara dropped the ball). So, not 100% cartoon accurate. Not 100% realistic — the gun's too big, so what... We would have heard more bitching if he didn't fit in scale with Prime, admit it.
I think they're still defining what this line is, and I have no problem with that. Each release seems to focus on a different goal, yet they all end up pretty freaking awesome. I don't think we can clarify a pattern yet, although...
I'm pretty sure Grimlock will fall closer to MP Megatron's/Prime's design direction than Starscream. Let's face it, the original T-Rex is NOT accurate to how a real T-Rex stands/is built/etc. I don't want a realistic T-Rex robot, like say from Jurassic Park. I want Grimlock, in all his 80s badass bulkiness, dragging tail and all. Take the original toy, and make it "better", is what I expect out of them. And make it cartoon-accurate as much as possible. Whether it's closer to the G1 toy or cartoon in it's focus, I expect to be amazed by whatever they throw at us.

Cos I for one want the original MP Starscream, that was the best and most accurate representation of that character.
Plus, the only MOP I have ever complained about is MP Starscream for the stated reason.
I give a rats shit about accurate alt-mode, it's the robot mode I'm interested in.
