I don't get movie pirates... they're thieves who risk alot trying to sneak into a theatre with a camcorder and for what? So a bunch of other, more lazy thieves can download whatever they filmed, without having to pay the entrance fee or risking a fine and possible jail time.
I'm sorry, but if I had to pay close to 10$ to see Transformers, damn it, EVERYONE is going to have to pay to see that movie.
Unless you're content with watching a choppy, shaky out-of-focus bootleg on a 13" little monitor in your crappy apartement full of old leftover pizza (which you paid for... strange that you would pay for a pizza but not for a movie)... in which case, well, there's no helping you... 'cuz you're an idiot.

Yes, they should go and pirate Harry Potter so they lose money and TransFormers gains money, good thinking there

Don't worry, people will do that too.

Ive seen a few where they actually used a tripod or something. there was no motion at all. It stayed in frame the hole time. They were filmed in another country because there were sutitles on the screen. I guess each country has diffrent laws for pirated movies. But some do find a way to keep the camera still. But i have seen some were they hand the camera off to other people. I guess evrey one has there own method. But the only way any one should have a bootleg copy of a movie is if they've seen it more than 3 times and its way after the release. Not every one has the money to see a movie every week. So you should'nt look down on people that have a bootleg. Unless they are just to lazy and cheap to see it in the theater than you can give them hell.

Thats not that great, seeing as how I'm looking at a buttload of TF movie torrents at a certain website I frequent.
Ah well, maybe they'll crack down a lot more on pirating movies. Then us pirates will have to resort to different methods to evolve the pirating process.

I'm shocked at the drone like behaviour of some of the people in this threads. Just because something is declared illegal doesn't give you the right to consider the people involved on a par with hoodies who rob grannies.
I can't believe NOBODY has stated the obvious now - the pricks at Paramount decided to delay the movie over here in the UK for three painful weeks. Spare me your "Cry me a river!" bullshit, especially since anyone that says it has probably gotten to see the movie, there are no excuses for this.
This is a big reason why people are so willing to risk pirating it - so that their brothers in the UK and other countries can see it before it comes out.
I can't believe that not one of you considered that some people CAN'T see it on the big screen. Just shows how isolated and unaware Americans can be.

Whereas I can agree with some of this sentiment, wouldn't that last sentence of yours... the one with the large, country-wide blanket statement, be as close-minded as the statements you're complaining about?

You're joking right?
There is only 1 reason people go into theaters and pirate movies.
To make money from selling copies.
Nobody, out of the kindness of their heart, is going to go into a theater and make a cam-copy of a film to send to their "brothers" over in the UK, because they can't watch it.
However, people will give it to the pirating/torrent communities out there, not just for the people in the Uk, but for everyone. Not just those who don't get the movie yet, but for the entire pirating community.

This is my take on the entire thing.
Piracy is breaking the law, that's a given. Do these people deserve to be "raped in prison", not even close. These people are not kid touchers or murderers they are more than likely just kids or younger adults who think they can impress their friends with a pirated copy of the movie.
The vast majority of the cam releases on the Internet come from people who work at the theatres or know people who do. People are going to make poor choices but chances are if you took their camera away and fined them $500 they would never attempt to do it again.
North America needs to do what some other countries are doing. Release retail copies of the movies on DVD with excellent picture quality, 2 channel audio and no extras for $10 at theatrical launch. Then release the full DVD several months later.
Also the movie industry is full of sharks anyway, every DVD now has at least 2-3 different versions with different extras or extended scenes. They are screwing themselves by screwing us and honestly, they deserve a little bit of it.
Oh and anyone who can afford fast enough Internet access to download a 800MB-1.4GB DivX cam copy or a DVD5/9 copy can afford a $5-$10 movie ticket, easily.

You misunderstand me. I'm not American. I couldn't care less about piracy. If it stops shitty movies from being made, hell, I'm for it.
What I don't support is unwatchable video and sound quality. If someone wanted to watch the movie without paying for it, that's their decision. I didn't pirate this movie, but sure's hell feel bad having had to pay to see it.
If they CAN'T see it on the big screen, then find the DVD rip (I'm not going into more detail due to that 'omg teh pyritz R teh 3vil' taboo) so you can at least have a version with watchable video and audio quality.

Well, if you were going to suggest it was me, that's fine. No offense taken you can only take me by my word.
I did wanna agree with you on the "other country" thing though. Russia has a HUGE pirating problem. They actually release dvds just a few weeks after the theatrical release. For two films called Night Watch/Day Watch they even made deals with bootleggers giving them LEGIT copies to sell on the streets

Why wait 3 months when the DVD screener is most likely leaked on the web somewhere? You know how some people are.

It would be more than 10%, it would easily be closer to 60-70%.
Piracy is wrong but it does promote industry advancement. Music and Video tapes turn into CD's and DVD's. CD's turn into audio files with DRM, DVD's turn into Blu-ray, HD-DVD and video files with DRM.
No one thinks of the big picture. Yeah, movie and music pirates are law breakers but how many people are pirates and do not even realize it? How many people have that copy of Windows or Microsoft Office that they didn't pay for? How many people still have copies of movies on VHS from HBO or Cinemax in the 80's tucked away in a closet someplace?
It's all piracy. It's all wrong but to what extent should these people be punished? "raped in prison" for what? Downloading pirated anti-virus to keep their computer from being compromised? "raped in prison" for pirating a copy of Microsoft Word so their kid can do school work?
The punishment should fit the crime.

So, someone has never been to a comic convention, or other sort of convention.
There are booths upon booths of bootleg dvds for sale of movies, shows, and what not that haven't been put on dvd yet.
There are vendors in the streets who do sell pirated dvds.
Piracy is not high because "for this movie is that people in the UK and what not have gotten used to getting movies on time"
If someone wants to see the movie in theaters, are they;
A. Going to wait for the movie to come out to see it in the theater
or
B. Pirate a handy-cam poor quality copy of the version and be overly disappointed?
I'd have to say A.
Now of course you'll say B, just because, but it's ok, not everyone knows the right answer.
For every torrent of the Transformers film there is online, several of which are just reuploaded versions of the same crappy copy. There are quadruple that number and most likely more, in bootleg dvds being sold.
