While on the set, the reporters from the movie site got the chance to talk to director/producer Steven Spielberg. While their article is mostly about the fourth Indiana Jones movie, Steven Spielberg dropped a snippet surrounding the sequel to the record-breaking Michael Bay Transformers movie. The following is taken directly from the article.
"The "story" for Transformers 2 will be finalized in a couple weeks, and if the writers guild strike doesn't happen in November, they will be able to go into production on "number 2" pretty quickly".

Grimlock, the people demand Grimlock!
And let them survive till TF 3...

It would be cool if they would open a forum or something on the movie site to let fans voice their opinion on the next movie's robot cast. We've been vocal, sure, but not very organised. I doubt the movie people are going to read through the thousands of "who do you want in TF2" threads out there...

I think if you talk with alot of fans, most want the "Dinobots" without them actually being dinosaurs.
Even then, I think most fans would be happy with (or in my case, would prefer) just having Grimlock, and he could be a vehicle just like everyone else. He pulled off his mustang-mode in the Alternator line, no reason he can't pass of as an armor car or some other large, powerful vehicle. For me, the other Dinobots weren't as interesting, and were just carbon copies of the same basic character.
That's really quick for a script though, hope it's good!

I think Grimlock should be sufficient for now but think a dinosaur would still be good but one more like Dinobot frombeast wars.Real looking on the outside and more mechanical in robot form.

As to characters.. Wheeljack and the brothers (Swipe and Streaker) would be good, as would Dinobots/Grimlock (the "basic concept" of the first movie was robots turning into alternate forms. Whether this be cars/jets/miscellaneous mechanical or electronic items/robot dinosaurs or animals/etc makes no difference.) and Soundwave or Shockwave.

Yeah thats a good point, I really loved War Within Grimlock and his "Lightning Strike Coalition". His tank mode was awesome, and they gave him intelligence, just a messed up voice unit that made him say things like "Me" before every sentence
They might go the RiD route since alot of the Contruction team had Dinobot names

Let us not forget that the task of introducing the concept is over and that the sequel has more time than the first did to focus on the bots. I'm sure it will take full advantage of the opportunity.
So no we're NOT "going to get the same crap we got in the first one."
Let us also not forget that sequels are sometimes better than the originals (rare but it happens) like Star Wars Episode V and Spiderman 2. I see no reason to believe that this won't be the case with Transformers 2 especially because the studio now knows how much potential there is for this series.

This has been my prefered alt mode for "movie" Grimlock for a looong time. It's the LeTourneau front loader, the largest in the world.
It's as close as a vehicle can get to being an actual dinosaur.
Back on topic. I hope they won't be as secretive this time around. I really don't want them to resort to using "codenames" for characters. Before shooting starts, they should tell the fanbase what characters will appear, I don't want to go through another round of "guess the TF based on their alt mode and ludicrous placeholder name"

What fans are you talking to?
Seriously though, I remember rumours of movie crew people enquiring about construction vehicles not long after the first movie was released. Something inside tells me that the Dinobots may very well eventually go the R.I.D. route, but please for the love of me let them be dinosaurs for a little while.
Or?
Perhaps Starscream returns with the Terrorcons so the construction or *spits on ground* car Dinobots have to become Dinosaurs to present an equal force.
Dinosaurs at some point, pretty please.
Oh and Arcee aswell!

I assure you that the official movie and Hasbro folks read the forums and what we write. Everyone's best bet is to keep fighting the good fight on whichever major Transformers site they love the best.

padfoo wrote:Are you kidding the movie was a joke worse than the crap 80's movie. I was expecting Spielberg’s War of the Worlds type kick ass unstoppable aliens, with Alternator influenced bodies and style; instead we got a movie with every over used stereotypical joke and comment used in recent movies and robots that look like moving piles of trash. To make matters worse these million year old robots get killed by little men (I never served in a military like that) with guns, in the middle of a CITY (who wrote that @#$#) These robots were so frail how the hell did they survive all those years fighting each other. Stupid ass movie, a decent Transformers movie would easily have made twice what this pg13 cartoon made. Spielberg could have pulled off a better movie on his own.

A lot! This is just the story, not the script. In the next few weeks, the writers will determine what the basic story will be and draw out the story line-out. Then the real work starts. This basic concept needs to be turned into a script. But the pre-production crew must determine what can and cannot be done based on the outlines given. And don't just think in terms of budget, but if certain locations are available at which time, if schedules of actors match-up and so forth. During this time the team will be making the modifications to the script to accommodate what is available to them. By the time the script is ready and every piece of the puzzle has been put together, you are usually 4 to 6 months into production, and only then will the actual shooting start.Dark_Lord_Prime wrote:If the story/script is finalized, what difference does the writer's guild strike have on beginning production?
But if there is a strike, the writers can't write, which means the production crew can't do their job, which means the agenda will fall to the side. The strike will mean that everything will be put on hold, not just writing the actual script.

Now Decepticons they could add 10+ since most are probably dead from first movie and most likely most of them be treated as grunts that are just there for fighting anyway. Considering whats a good money maker gestalts probably appear, I would think the Constructicons be best bet on that. Soundwave got to be a must and maybe Shockwave if Cybertron is shown.

If it's not legit, it's at least a pretty decent script treatment. Just finished reading it, and I liked what I read. I'm kind of crossing my fingers and hoping it's legit.
