The figure features a special and rather unique function. He can carry scout sized figures, acting as a transport!

I realize he's not supposed to be wimpy, he's a giant alien robot of death (much like the rest of his race), but this is too much of an extreme in the other direction.
And that packaging...ugh. It gets worse with each new view. Blargh.
But, this pretty much confirms that Universe is returning.
With that "catch all" packaging and lack of ROTF aesthetic on his robot mode, plus he's a character we haven't seen decades, it just screams "UNIVERSE 3.0 IS HERE!"
And I'm all for Universe returning, no problem with that, but dang...

I'd like to see a better shot. I've always been a sucker for TFs that can have other TFs ride on them.Didicos wrote:Am I the only one who would prefer a legends class Universe Seaspray just like Cosmos,Brawn,Beachcomber etc

I wouldn't mind a Scout Class version of him. The Legends just leave a bit too much to be desired.
But this Voyager is just a tad too much, especially when it looks like "Ahnold" Schwarzenrobot.
How do you go from small, big hearted Seaspray to this? It's astounding.
See, I didn't care for the 2.0 upsize on Powerglide, but at least it made sense, he's supposed to be friggin' immense.
This is one thing I like about the Bayverse...their characters are to scale (in film!) and they don't go to outrageous lengths to be something they're not. Prime's a 32 foot robot who compacts into a long nose semi. G1 Seaspray was a massive hovercraft, but changed into a robot standing a little over 12 feet tall. It doesn't make sense! And it never has.

i really do like the design and the capability for transport. and really as long as most of him is blue and he has yellow shoulders (which he does) then the paintjob works for me
on the downside. those missiles look rather tacky and im afraid that his transformation will be TOO simple

Who cares about the packages? Makes it easier to throw away if it's ugly.

From what I've gathered, this is the new "continued" movie style packaging post-ROTF. I think Sea Spray is a new off screen character. I could be wrong. We'll know for sure in 13 days after toy fair.

Honestly, if we got something like G1 Seaspray today, people would be darn near up in arms.
If you don't think it makes a good Seaspray, then simply don't call it that! Call it Waterlog, or Oceanglide, or Storm Surge, or Splashdown, or Power Run, or Strikedown, or Waver, or Shortround, or darn near anything else like that. It looks like it'll be a decent figure, so don't be holding G1 nostalgia against it the way most did with Powerglide.
And for the record, I'm a HUGE G1 fan. I just don't let it get in the way of judging a figure on its own merits.

13 days? O_o...yes!
I think I can wait that long. lol

DevastaTTor wrote:To me, Sea Spray looks like a hybrid of RotF and Universe lines, not as blocky as Universe/Classics, but much more traditional than the on-screen movie figures. While this is an original figure, the look and feel reminds me of the RotF Hoist repaint. I guess a mix of design styles makes sense since these figures basically bridge the two movies. Perhaps I'll be more excited about this figure when we get clearer pictures-or the Takara paint job.
The generic packaging does nothing for me.
Agreed. Looks like a good hybrid of RORF and Classics. Which I like.
Though I'll definitely wait for the yellow and blue repaint that's inevitably going to be released.
Seems Hasbro is losing the ROTF label in favor of a more general line that can include many things. I bet we'll see more AEC repaints in this line. Like with the 07 Movie.

No, but just like Powerglide, he looks pretty good in an Alternators/MP display.

Agreed, though I don't feel it's particularly movie-like either. An interesting piece anyways.

I agree, but with Powerglide, I held his ginormous blob body and head with his tiny arms and floppy legs against him, not G1 nostalgia!

No, we wouldn’t.
Reference Legends Brawn, Beachcomber, Warpath, or Wheelie for confirmation that small, simple homages to small simple G1 characters is exactly what we want.

Just hope he's not meant to be in the ROTF line though, the aesthetic doesn't match up.

Except ALL of those you quoted have MUCH better robot modes than G1 Seaspray.
I did not mean that if a figure that homaged G1 Seaspray was released in Legends size, I meant if G1 Seaspray had never been invented, and we got that figure today, it would be an uproar. No articulation except at the shoulders, legs nothing but skinny sticks, one solid foot, undefined arms, no real paint apps, seemingly random colors - people WOULD be upset.

G1 Wheelie has a better robot mode than Seaspray? G1 Warpath has essentially the same transformation as Seaspray. Brawn is just a terrible looking G1 figure.

While having new Legends figures improving on the original awful Minibots is cool, for me there's no nostalgia tying a specific homage to a specific size class. If they think they can do a badass Seaspray at Voyager size, let em do it. I was pretty happy with Powerglide overall (except the colors and that defect that kept the arms from locking to the engines).

You referenced the LEGENDS version. I'm not sure you're understanding what I'm saying.
Imagine G1 Seaspray never came out.
Imagine the current Legends Wheelie, Warpath, Brawn, and Cosmos came out as they really did.
Then imagine G1 Seaspray was released as a Legends class.
People would be pissed. THAT is the point I'm making.
If you ignore that the upcoming Voyager class is supposed to be a G1 minibot, it actually looks like a pretty darn good figure. And thus I really don't get why people would refuse to get it just because "it isn't Seaspray".
