My bigger question is the Retro Inspired Brawn and Seaspray.... unless they're giving Brawn a toy head and claw hands, I can't imagine how else they'd make him more retro than his SS release. And if we get another minibot/Seaspray that's exclusive to Walmart which is also short packed.... No one needs the Cosmos fiasco redone.

Someone who knows Japanese G1 better than I do will surely correct me on part of this, but it's the scale issues posed by the Micromaster Hot Rod that came with the original. Micromasters were explained as being smaller than normal TFs in most media, albeit for different reasons on opposite sides of the Pacific. But that Hot Rod toy begged the question of whether Rod downsized, or Op came back really big, and he, Sky Garry and Grandus were serving as bases/transports for normal sized TFs, which the Micromasters were now representing, but with all toys now being smaller scale.chuckdawg1999 wrote:Star Convoy as a Titan? IDK which theory Battlstars Return of Convoy backs up because I haven't read the Manga yet, but it seems HasTak might have gone with the smaller-scale theory because they're running out of ideas for Titans, and this next Titan allows for G1 Star Convoy's play pattern with the majority of Generations scale toys, without revisiting Micromasters again so soon after Earthrise.
Just my hunch. Sky Garry was depicted as being that big in the BotCon Wreckers story where Daniel and Wheelie died, so there's at least one precedent for it in U.S. fiction off the top of my head.

Star Convoy is indeed supposed to be a big guy, but more specifically he's supposed to be around Combiner size, not Cityformer size. The height of Siege Jetfire would have been perfect for him.Bumblevivisector wrote:Someone who knows Japanese G1 better than I do will surely correct me on part of this, but it's the scale issues posed by the Micromaster Hot Rod that came with the original. Micromasters are indeed smaller-than-average Transformers, in nearly all of their fictional appearances on both sides of the Pacific. In Japan, they're even called "Micro Transformers", emphasizing their small stature. Hot Rod did downsize when he became one, too.
My only hope for this Star Convoy is that it's less of an actual Titan and more of a "Titan class in name only", as in a Commander class-sized figure but made with the budget of a Titan.

Was he the only one to do that in Japanese continuity? I meant to emphasize that they had different origins in J vs. U.S. fiction, since I thought the idea was they fled Cybertron the same time as the guys who ended up on Planet Master, but retained their original transformations instead of adapting to combine with transtectors, whereas Marvel Micromasters all downsized, then Dreamwave sort of homaged the difference by having just a handful being downsized after the Ark and Nemesis disappeared before subsequently serving as templates for the dozens of new Micromasters brought to life.

Another possibility just dawned on me: maybe this listing's misleading and the "Titan" is SC + Sky Garry and Grandus, and their vehicle gestalt (Battlestar Attacker? Did it never have a name like Big Powered?) is Titan-size! That would be awesome, and possibly the only way the latter 2 ever get a proper update.
I still like the idea of a titan-class Star Convoy that treats G1 bulks like Micromasters though. Sure there was no other way to do the Micromasters, but it always bugged the slag outta' me that they had Earth-vehicle alts despite being so small that it wasn't an effective disguise. Yes, they all mass-shifted to full-grown vehicles in vintage G1 fiction, but that obviously did NOT translate at all to any play pattern involving their toys. I had most of the 1989 lineup back in the day, but once I got the stations and half the bases, as much fun as I could have with more elaborate smaller scale battles, I just never found myself working older TFs into them. It would do my heart good if this turns out to be an idea born of fans turned designers that were just as frustrated by that fiction/toy disconnect, and decided that Star Convoy would be cooler if he'd just been huge enough to dwarf other Transformers down to micro-scale.
But again, I'm actually hoping more for a new Battlestars giftset passed off a Titan now!

If it's Commander Class sized then I want to only pay the Commander Class price point. If it's going to be at the Titan Class price then I want a BIG Optimus Prime. I want a Prime that's over compensating.

It would seem Hot Rod was indeed the only one, yes. The rest, as you say, were naturally small.Bumblevivisector wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Micromasters are indeed smaller-than-average Transformers, in nearly all of their fictional appearances on both sides of the Pacific. *wavy hand gesture* Kinda. "Battlestar Attack" seems to be more the name of the combined form's laserfire attack, but the form itself is kinda not a true combiner as much as it is just Star Convoy towing Grandus while Sky Garry rests on top, like Armada Optimus towing Overload with Jetfire sitting on top.Bumblevivisector wrote:and their vehicle gestalt (Battlestar Attacker? Did it never have a name like Big Powered?)
By that point in the toyline, "disguise" was no longer the point (and, well, the Transformers were kinda universal knowledge by then in both English and Japanese fiction, so they had no need to hide themselves anymore).Bumblevivisector wrote:I still like the idea of a titan-class Star Convoy that treats G1 bulks like Micromasters though. That last image would imply that Optimus didn't get any bigger when he upgraded.
Rodimus Prime wrote:So Silverbolt will be done the same way Motormaster was. I wonder if we'll get a leader class Concorde with all the combined accessories, or if it will be Silverbolt turning into a complete skeleton for the deluxe limbs
I think we'll get something similar to Brave Dagwon where the combiner parts are just built up underneath (but removable)
Superion combines in the cartoon the same way as Menasor with big blocks for lower legs and jets strapped to the back. I can't imagine the jet itself will be permanently compromised by the combiner parts just like Motormaster's truck cab formed a robot without requiring any of his combiner parts.

If I remember right, the Hasbro design team said in a recent interview (don't remember if it was just at SDCC or something else, I'll have to double-check) that Takara is trying to get just Grandus by himself made a Titan Class release, which seems to imply that not only is Grandus NOT in play here, but that they consider all 3 of those characters Titan-size.Emerje wrote:Yeah, I'm really baffled by the choice to make Star Convoy a Titan unless he comes with all of the missing Micromasters, too, including Sixliner. He shouldn't be any bigger than Commander Jetfire or Armada Prime or the completed Menasor. What's really confusing is if you go by the official art Sky Garry is about the same size as Optimus Prime and he's the smallest of the trio, but art shows them all as being pretty close in size.

Posted by Bumblevivisector on September 28th, 2024 @ 12:33pm CDT
Or if Grandus is still the biggest, maybe Sabrblade's guess of Commander Star Convoy is about right, but with Leader or Commander Class Sky Garry to bump the box up to Titan size? That might require coming up with some new way for just the 2 of them to combine for this to make sense to fans unfamiliar with the characters, but it could still work if Grandus was a sure thing for 2026.Nemesis Primal wrote:If I remember right, the Hasbro design team said in a recent interview (don't remember if it was just at SDCC or something else, I'll have to double-check) that Takara is trying to get just Grandus by himself made a Titan Class release, which seems to imply that not only is Grandus NOT in play here, but that they consider all 3 of those characters Titan-size.

That's what I thought it was but I'm seeing comments about a new seaspray
Posted by #1 Signal Lancer fan on September 28th, 2024 @ 12:55pm CDT
First up, the confirmed Primes for the line:
Prima: This one has to be either his G1 appearance or Aligned, but I would lean towards Aligned
Solus Prime: Prime Wars
The Fallen: Dreamwave Comics
Alchemist Prime: Cyberverse
Micronus Prime: RID 2015
Onyx Prime: IDW Comics
Alpha Trion: A repackaging or redeco of Legacy Alpha Trion from the two-pack
Now, for the ones not yet confirmed:
Amalgamous Prime: The only one with a clear design, Transformers One (from the trading cards)
Quintus Prime: Earthspark
Liege Maximo: Marvel Comics
Nexus Prime: Timelines Comics
He would have to be a combiner, of course

The previous G1 reissue listings all just said "TRA Gen Retro [character name]" or "TRA 40th Retro [1/2]", the fact that these specify retro-inspired and include current class names implies a difference.Razorbeast88 wrote:Is the retro inspired line not just G1 reissues with some new paint?

Looking backwards at when the 2025 exclusives we already knew leaked, these listings were also referred to by the leaker as a Retro-Inspired capsule and there were two more of them as well that we currently don't know the character for:
Tra Gen Retro Inspired 1
Product Number: G1093
Tra Gen Retro Inspired 2
Product Number: G1094
Tra Gen Retro Inspired 3 (Now identified as Deluxe Seaspray)
Product Number: G1382
Tra Gen Retro Inspired 4 (Now identified as Deluxe Brawn)

I feel like if this were to be the case, the leaks would have specified it as either a "package refresh" or a "rerelease", but they haven't.#1 Signal Lancer fan wrote:Alpha Trion: A repackaging or redeco of Legacy Alpha Trion from the two-pack
Another possibility is a redeco of the Legacy Thundertron mold using its mass retail head instead of its proper Star Raiders head, in homage to both the old BotCon concept that never came to be (which was made from Beast Machines Snarl) and the Titans Return Alpha Trion having a lion altmode (and aligning with the same being the case for TF One Alpha Trion).

This could definitely be the case, especially given that the original Thundertron was redecoed into ‘Alpha Trizer.’
Could also be a redeco of Vector Prime, like the Timelines Alpha Trion was.
On the topic of the Thindertron mold, I’m surprised it hasn’t been redecoed into Leobreaker yet. Maybe for the upcoming Cybertron pack?
Posted by Sabrblade on September 28th, 2024 @ 2:58pm CDT
I think fans would be pretty angry with any new Leobreaker being a mere reuse of an existing mold instead of a new one made especially able to combine with the Siege Galaxy Upgrade Optimus.#1 Signal Lancer fan wrote:On the topic of the Thindertron mold, I’m surprised it hasn’t been redecoed into Leobreaker yet. Every time a new toy is made for a combiner character that didn't retain its original combiner gimmick, fans have been upset by it (see Universe 2008 Onslaught, Universe 2008 Silverbolt, the Animated versions of Swindle and the Stunticons, Generations GDO Hot Spot, Kingdom BWII Skywarp, etc.).

1. The male him fully articulated at the legs / trailer
2. Include his Rodimus micro master.
3 They give him the battery powered rolling tread gimmick of the original.
And even then, $200 bucks is a stretch.

Problem with that theory is we rarely see Commanders in stores, I don't think making Titans smaller is going to change anything.

Bah, call me crazy but I'd take a page from Diaclone and make a titan in two parts. Part A one year, part B the next. Each would become a vehicle that would change into half a bot.
But I don't think it would work for normal retail.

I think it would, at least size-wise. That's pretty much 2 commanders combined to make a titan. Just depends on which characters are used.-Kanrabat- wrote:call me crazy but I'd take a page from Diaclone and make a titan in two parts. Part A one year, part B the next. Smaller titans would be a bad idea. Because then, they wouldn't be TITANS. (Yes, all you know-it-alls, I'm aware that Titan Class refers to price, not size.)

I meant two Titan prices and sized halves. Meaning we'd get something akin HASLAB Unicron once the two parts are combined.
Still, Doing a huge-ass combiner using only Commanders,in 6 parts, would be wild too.

It really should have been a commander class and since the Powers That Be have returned giving Star Convoy some needed attention I think the same should be directed to Big Powerd in a much needed commander class too IMHO...'nuff said!

It was made for larger figures at a higher price point. If they're going to start making them smaller without lowering the price then I think there needs to be a march on Hasbro.

Even if it was an 18 inch Titan like CW Devastator or Tidal Wave, Id say that was way too big. Of course I also think Tidal Wave would have been much better at CC... Oh well.... If that's the case then perhaps my Titan purchasing days truly are over, as this would be the 2nd one I didn't Purchase. I know my wife would be happy since space is really running out.

I could accept that. I Know Hasbro has a crazy idea that they wanted an Optimus at every scale, but it is kind of nonsensical if its Just Star Convoy. I've heard people say that Star Convoy (in fiction) is something like over 100 ft tall, I cant find any evidence of this, and I own the translated manga with the story pages, though he's mostly in space and fighting Super Megatron....

His base mode is scaled for Micromasters, like how Armada Optimus's trailer base is scaled for Mini-Cons.
The height of Siege Jetfire, Legacy Menasor, or even Legacy Armada Optimus's slightly shorter size would have been perfect for him.

^Awesome, glad that was clarified. I made the same comparison on another forum to Star Saber & Dai Atlas, and someone was like "no Star Convoy is 48M (or 157 feet tall)", and that just didn't make sense.
I agree CC ala Siege Jetfire would be perfect for Star Convoy. So if we got a CC sized Star Convoy & Grandus, and maybe a Leader sized Sky Garry.... But then that Titan set would probably be pushed into the $230 or $240 range...

But, if Sky Garry is leader sized and has any retool/repaint potential and would not be a one-off mold, they could do the Titan as Convoy and Grandus and release Sky Garry as a regular leader.

Not a bad idea, since that would allow for more of the budget and mass to go to Star Convoy and Grandus rather than having to set aside some from Sky Garry. Star Convoy and Grandus do also have their own integration gimmick between just the two of them alone, so that would permit a set of just them two to still feel like a complete package. Sky Garry as a separate release would be like DLC for them.TF-fan kev777 wrote:o.supreme wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Star Convoy is a big guy, but not Cityformer big.

It's been pointed out to me that The Battlestars story pages do say that Star Convoy and Super Megatron are 45 meters tall and 35 meters tall, respectively.o.supreme wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Star Convoy is a big guy, but not Cityformer big. He's more like Combiner-sized, like how God Ginrai, Star Saber (without Victory Leo), and Dai Atlas are.
His base mode is scaled for Micromasters, like how Armada Optimus's trailer base is scaled for Mini-Cons.

However, the illustrations in the story pages don't reflect that. Star Convoy is shown to be about two heads taller than Sky Garry, who is shown in the first Battlestars story page to be about one head shorter than Dai Atlas, who was shown in Zone to be just a little shorter than Victory Saber, who is just Star Saber wearing extra boots, and Star Saber was shown in Victory to be within the same height neighborhood as both Deathsaurus and the four Combiners of that series.

And then there's this pic of Sky Garry and Optimus Prime.
Even the package art seems to mostly agree even though they tend to be mostly non-canon. Micromasters being roughly the size of humans shows that these guys aren't even proper bases, more like field battle stations
I'm thinking whoever wrote the blurbs with the sizes didn't realize those bots were Micromasters and made the numbers based on them being populated by normal sized Transformers.

Unlikely to be buying this TBH, whatever form it takes, but I should probably read up on Return of Convoy as post-Victory JG1 is still something of a blind spot for me. It's cool to see HasTak delving into it, though.

But, if I had to guess, Battlestar Galactica may already hold a grip on that word's trademark for merchandise.

Indeed!

How about "Star-Battler OP"?

TF Prime carrion Prime would make more sense.

I actually suggested Optimus Maximus in another forum. He's certainly big enough
Its unfortunate Hasbro wants to keep the "Convoy" name out of westernization. Especially when its fitting in this case. I mean I would "think" mostly fans are purchasing Titans. But for any kid who is fortunate enough to have his parents drop $200 for a toy. If the splash art shows an awesome "beefed up" Optimus, that has a wicked anime-look . I don't think the kids gonna say "Star Convoy? who's that? -- Pass".....
Plus a one-sentence bio on the back can fix all that
-In a not-to-distant future, near the end of the Great War ; The heroes of Cybertron bring back their Greatest Leader, Optimus Prime, in a new Body - Star Convoy!
