Top 5 G1 Characters we Want to See in Upcoming Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Toylines
Hasbro says in interviews that they read these sites, especially for clues on what fans want next. So I compiled a very short list of what me and most of the fan community want to see on shelves at some point in this new trilogy. Just in case it needs to be said again, here are what I feel should be released sooner rather than later, and could fill some prized spots in our collections.
Let me know which other toys you would like to see released in the new Generations Trilogy Hasbro is concocting. I have another list for Beast Era toys coming up so for right now let's concentrate on the G1 side of things.
5. Leader Deathsaurus
Titans Return gave many fans a chance to finally own Overlord, a fan favourite character and an homage to a G1 toy many could only have dreamt of having. Deathsaurus is basically that again. And we know Hasbro is aware of this guy's popularity with his inclusion in the Power of the Primes fan vote (but under a mysterious moniker?????). Anyways, the point remains that as Hasbro covers more G1, they are bound to get to a decent representation of this character. And the fun thing is that the beast mode is such an odd design that this is a case where most fans would not be as upset with a reinterpretation, or a modernized look, being closer to a dragon than a giant chicken. We all love dragons, no?
Also, while I am not such a fan of repaints, a more western dragon-like Deathsaurus mold done right could harbor tons of repaints/retools fans could want from Beast Wars TMII Megatron to a "Generations" version of Prime Predaking. Of course, that's as long as Deatsaurus is the character initially in mind and not just the redeco. We got that before and it sucks.
4. Voyager Snap Dragon/ Ape Face
While not the most iconic toys or characters from the G1 era, they were very unique in being triple changer headmasters, with the headmasters serving double duty. The look of the original toys do suffer from having so much to do so everyone would love to see what modern day engineering could accomplish. And what pains me incredibly about these two, and why their absence in the Generations line is more felt now than ever before, is that the Titans Return Generations subline has all voyagers (the perfect class for Snap Dragon and Ape Face) be triple changing Head Masters. The line up included included a bunch of characters that were either never head masters or triple changers (or both) in the past, but it didn't have either Snap Dragon or Ape Face. I mean...
3. Voyager Shockwave
While a new voyager Soundwave would also be welcomed, a decently sized G1 Shockwave is long overdue. It is so weird that for such an iconic character, several of his toys have been too small (Combiner Wars legends, FOC deluxe). Fans, and I included, have to reply on odd placeholders like the Prime rendition, or the Cloud version, or even the Cyber Battalion toy, which has a perfect looking robot mode but remains a toy intended for a very young audience. He is just such an obvious gaping hole, especially in this scale and a series based on Cybertronian designs would be the perfect place to finally release him.
2. Titan Omega Supreme
Speaking of Cybertronian designs, we now come to Omega Supreme. He is one of the characters I want to see most for the simple reason that I am extremely curious as to what Takara and Hasbro would do with him. Unlike most Transformers toy, this initial toy is from another line and thus has a very different play pattern (100% partsforming) so I would like to see how this could be improved upon. I personally thought the Energon design was a smart way to reinvent him an since that has been done I think we are ready (more than ready) for something more than an homage to the original but the original truly reborn within the Transformers line proper (by Transformers designers) ready for both old school and new fans alike.
1. Ratchet/Ironhide
It sounds so obvious but for some reason we just keep getting shafted. Ratchet and Ironhide are some of the main representatives of the Transformers brand. In any medium, at any time, we have gotten one or the other, whenever there was a hint at an homage to G1. But believe it or not, when it comes to these characters in their G1 styles, we basically have the Masterpiece toys and nothing else decent. And that masterpiece toy is awesome, but we still need something in a Generations collection, something anyone can own. And not a redeco of a previous toy (like in Combiner Wars), these will already be redecos of each other, make a toy for them. I mean there was such a void in a decent Ratchet/Ironhide toy design that its one of the only designs the Forged to Fight team had to build on their own, amidst all their other toy based designs.
Honourable Mention: Scorponok, because I don't want to receive death threats. I mean, these are all priorities but the longer I make a list, the lesser the impact of the characters mentioned. These are all a must to me, and Scorponok is as well but I feel we have pretty good representations of him, which includes his G1 toy. That is one toy I think holds up better than most other toys from that era.

Omega should be a (double?) headmaster as well.
How about a nice Cliffjumper? He’s not really a priority, but would be welcome nonetheless.

However, I agree that we need a GOOD Ratchet/Ironhide, because "good" that mold aint.
I'm using Botcon 05 Ironhide and Ratchet, but at 100+ a piece, those two are not accesible to almost anyone. And the headmolds are not a perfect representation either. However the gimmixks of the toy are abeautiful homage to the G1 toys.

It is not, I was told by the people who actually designed the game when I went as press that is was an original design since they did not have any decent toy to base it off of. Just look at how this model uses part of the alt mode windows for feet. So what if the vehicle is similar? Thats like saying MP Soundwave is the same mold as G1 soundwave since the alt mode is similar.

You sure they weren't just talking about the model for the robot mode? Cuz that vehicle mode is the spittin' image of the Universe mold's altmode silhouette, right down the same Hasbro-only lightbar (Takara's uses a different lightbar).william-james88 wrote:Flashwave wrote:Um, the Forged to Fight Ratchet is the Universe mold.

Could be, and it's definitely the robot mode I am referring to.

Agreed, Hasbro totally could have given us Barrage from Bombshell and Venom from Kickback. They wouldn’t be as perfect as new molds, but it woulda given Hasbro the extra mileage out of the insecticons

omega supreme? definitely and for an idea they should take some from FT-20 Terminus Giganticus
but i still think scorponok needs to be done at some point to at least finish off the citybots
and i like the idea of having dethsaurus but i think not with out starsaber
it always bothered me that no headmaster horrorcons made any debuts i felt we got cut short on them
and was hoping they would appear in the POTP line but whatever
and ratchet and ironhide they need to do something and not give us a toy with a gimmick that makes them not great(CW)
hopefully this new war for cybertron line wont disappoint

A god-honest accurate voyager or even *gasp* leader Straxus.
Another figure I think should have gotten at least the voyager treatment by now is Thunderwing.
And before I forget, how about some Firecons and Sparkabots?
Posted by ZeroWolf on May 19th, 2018 @ 2:11am CDT
A few mentions of my own, such as a nice nod to beast wars with a couple of characters being their cybertronian alt modes (a long shot given how the design team feels about that franchise but they can't complain if they have vehicle alts). A leader class star saber which uses the evolution gimmick. Seacons, just because, we can never have enough Seacons.

Or do they mean the Prime Trilogy?
In the case of the High Moon Studios (who are dead by the way) styled Transformers:
1. Slipstream Because she looks great and is awesome in the game
2. Ratchet I love Ratchet and Ironhide, could be a retool of the other
3. Ironhide
4. Demolisher Great looking tank mode, nice colors, very beefy
5. Barricade Cool little grey car, could be an army builder with a different head
As for the Prime Trilogy:
1. Energon Wing Saber update, can't combine with anybody, has shoulders, keep the size and bulk
2. G1 Optimus Prime, for the love of Primus, a voyager Optimus Prime where the windshield is the torso, where the arms come from below the windshield's sides. Make it happen Hasbro, not even Third Party's get something as simple as that right. You almost got it with Energon Optimus and Animated is actually perfect but it's Animated styled.
3. Ratchet and Ironhide again and make them old school big vans please, not movie nose jeeps
4. Reflector
5. Titans Return Frenzy in blue, I really, really need a Rumble version of him, he's my fav. Decepticon
Honorable mention: Redo Starscream, no fake chest please.

The new "War for Cybertron" trilogy has nothing to do with the War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron games. It's the new line/set of lines for Generations, basically the successor to the Prime Wars trilogy - it just happens to share its name with the older games.

Also, I'm good on a voyager sized Shockwave for now, thanks to the Cyber Battallion version. I'm not saying I don't eventually want an actual Classics/Generations Shockwave, eventually, but I can wait for the time being. We first need an actually decent voyager Starscream, not the bundle of disappointment we got with Power of the Primes. Upscale that 2006 Classics Seeker mold, Hasbro! Give it some added articulation to match the voyager size class and EVERYONE will buy them. Every single one of them you repaint and retool! Trust me!
Posted by blackeyedprime on May 19th, 2018 @ 3:19am CDT
1. Scorponok both a leader and titan sized version (Hasbro/Tak could even justify doing leader size versions of the other city bots, just like the G1 GR range.
2.Metrotitan, not sure why this isnt a thing already, the mold exists
3.Hoist/Trailbreaker, The last generations figure is a niiice toy but it looks nothing like the g1 character.
4.Tripple Changing Ultra Magnus (that can carry deluxe cars) or Equally a Tripple changing gun galvatron (Leader class).
5. More of the minibots/throttlebots etc.

I would agree with most, if not all of the above, and would add a few.
It was a crying shame we didn't get the Seacons in either the CW line or PotP. I would have liked to have seen all of them, with one of the limbs as a Legends class that would be (or be added to) the weapon for Piranacon. I think a lot of the engineering for the PotP Terrorcons could have been used here. War for Cyberton Part 1, perhaps?
The Dinobots need to be voyager class. A voyager-class combiner team to rival Predaking would be (or would have been...) fantastic. Don't get me wrong, I like what Hasbro did with the Dinobots in PotP, but come on...
I think it would be neat to see an "evolution" Omega Supreme - a Leader-sized tank character ("Omega?") combining with the base parts (but not as "partsformer" as the original) to form a CW Devastator-sized Omega Supreme.
We needed WAY more combiner-friendly Decepticons in the Prime Wars Trilogy toyline. Not having limbs for Galvatronus was lame, especially considering how many Autobots Hasbro did. The molds were there to use. How about Runamuck and Runabout from CW Dead-End? The Air Strike Patrol re-imagined as Deluxe-sized combiners based on the CW Aerialbots? PotP could have given us a lot more - maybe WFC I will have some???
While I'm on the subject, while I loved what was done with Twinferno and Grotusque in TR, how cool would it have been to save the CW Sky Lynx mold for PotP and give the Autobots a "monster" combiner team? All 3 Monsterbots from G1, plus... I don't know, a Deluxe Ramhorn, maybe? The PotP Terrorcons molds could have been used here as well. Save the G1 Autobot CW molds we got with Sky Reign to be the combiner team with PotP Inferno instead...
OK, I realize this turned into a Prime Wars Trilogy "If I had done it" list, but I don't think I'm the only one who, as much as I enjoyed the three lines (and boy, did I!), felt like there were some significant blank spots. I just hope Hasbro/Takara doesn't squander perfectly good toy engineering...

No, not everyone.
I can't think of any figures I'd want here. Almost all the characters I had wanted new figures of that got ones in CW/TR/PotP were done in such a disappointing half-hearted way with forced gimmicks they never had in the first place. I just don't trust Hasbro to design them well anymore.

The others I agree with too. Deathsaurus/Dezarus/Deaths'R'Us needs a new toy desperately. Omega Supreme likewise, though I would like it if they didn't go too slavish to the G1 design- his robot mode is cool but I'd rather he was a "regular" Titan with two altmodes (preferably a big spaceship thing and a base mode) and very little partsforming, if any, to go between them.
Apeface and Snapdragon definitely need new toys. I don't particularly care about them myself but it would be nice if we got them.
And for the love of god, Ratchet and Ironhide absolutely deserve new figures. The closest to a decent update we got was the old retools of Energon Tow-Line from FunPub. It's about time they got something.
Some other figures I'd like to see get updated properly include Inferno and Grapple (that POTP retool of CW Hotspot ain't cutting it), Trailbreaker and Hoist, and Nightbeat (doubly so if it means we get an actually good Minerva out of it). Seacons would be nice too but I don't see them happening in WFC.

Ironhide/ratchet ? Really ? While the Henkei figures werent perfect, they are still awesome and fit the bill just fine. And while im not a fan of them, CW Ironhide and UW ratchet are just fine for those younger collectors who werent even born when the G1 cartoon was out. And if you want to go all out vintage toy look (with a chug touch) pick up Botcon 2005 ironhide and ratchet. Those two are awesome figures, possibly even cooler than the Henkei. (And im not even going to get into Animated, RID, and Bayverse incarnations) So no we dont need a yet another set of these two overused characters. Let them take a well deserved break already.
Now lets jump to the positives. I totally agree with you on voyager shockwave. However I need that space gun. Or at least turn it upside down and call it a submarine lol. If he is going to transform into a stupid tank again then im good with the recent cyberverse release from walgreens. (Dammit shapeways guys make some knees for him already)
Apeface and Snapdragon....a must ! I totally agree. How could they make an entire line of voyager class triple changing headmasters and leave out these two? Somebody from hasbro needs to get pimp slapped for that move...
Deathsaurus....well he is a very obscure character (to most american collectors) and he already has an awesome Botcon 2005 figure, however I wouldnt be opposed to a new mold for him. Keep it voyager though. Im sick of leader class figures because they are not in scale. In what cartoon was any decepticon commander almost 3 times the height of his troops? With the exception of a very few characters such as Jetfire, ginrai, ultra magnus, and rodimus prime (scale is debatable on him) the whole "leader class" scale seems to be pointless.
Now on to some figures that really need an update;
Flywheels
Crosshairs
Pointblank
Sureshot
Headmaster Jrs
Autobot targetmaster jrs (other than Scoop)
Firecons
Deluxe insecticons (other than chopshop)
Reflector (with a leader unlike Botcon version)
An actual G2 Defensor (why not)
A downsized Devastator that scales with CW (why not)

Rated X wrote:Take Omega Supreme off the list and replace him with Scorponok. The titans should be actual city bots. Im good with Platinum Omega Supreme because unlike any future "titan class" figure, he actually scales properly in cartoon scale. Would I like him to look more G1 ? Sure I would. But Id be horrified to see how they screw up scale like they did with Devastator and Predaking. Oh hes a fan favorite so lets make him bigger than the other combiners...dumb f**ks at Hasbro. Smh.
The Energon OS was a good mold for its time but it's horrendously dated by today's standards, especially articulation wise. As for scale, whilst I agree that Devastator and Predaking were made way too large, that was an issue from actual quality standards rather than scale. Devastator can work being large (construction vehicles are HUEG) and Predaking was always enormous. As for Omega Supreme, his size was highly variable but mostly colossal- remember when he grabbed Astrotrain (in his already enormous shuttle mode) in his claw?
Plus, you know, building a cartoon display based on scale is entirely pointless because the scale was about as consistent as a chameleon at a disco. I'd rather have "out of scale" toys that are fun with good play value and good display presence than mediocre figures who are reasonably scale-accurate to a particular frame from the wildly inconsistent cartoon.
Ironhide/ratchet ? Really ? While the Henkei figures werent perfect, they are still awesome and fit the bill just fine. There's a reason the Henkei/Universe Ironhide and Ratchet are as reviled as they are. I mean if you like them that's fine but that is not the popular opinion, and most of us want something better. And the Botcon figures, whilst cool and all, are very dated and very hard to get for a non-walletrape price.
Now lets jump to the positives. I totally agree with you on voyager shockwave. However I need that space gun. Or at least turn it upside down and call it a submarine lol.
...I will never understand why you refuse to make the jump to MP scale. It's all cartoon-accurately scaled (at least as close as is humanly possible) and they all have their proper alt modes. You aren't going to get what you want out of CHUG.
If he is going to transform into a stupid tank again then im good with the recent cyberverse release from walgreens. (Dammit shapeways guys make some knees for hom already)
Enjoy your hollow, cheaply-made brick I guess?
Apeface and Snapdragon....a must ! I totally agree. How could they make an entire line of voyager class triple changing headmasters and leave out these two? Somebody from hasbro needs to get pimp slapped for that move...
Probably because they're obscure characters who did precisely nothing in the G1 cartoon. I mean I think they deserve figures too but I can see why they didn't bother.
Deathsaurus....well he is a very obscure character (to most american collectors) and he already has an awesome Botcon 2005 figure, however I wouldnt be opposed to a new mold for him.
That figure is really rare now.
Actually, Deszaras/Deathsaurus/Dezzer Russ was the same size as Star Sabre, who was only just shorter than Liokaiser. So yeah, Leader class would be ideal for him.Keep it voyager though. Im sick of leader class figures because they are not in scale.
In what cartoon was any decepticon commander almost 3 times the height of his troops?
Ironically enough, the one he came from! And Masterforce for that matter, where Overlord and Black Zarak were pretty huge.
With the exception of a very few characters such as Jetfire, ginrai, ultra magnus, and rodimus prime (scale is debatable on him) the whole "leader class" scale seems to be pointless.
Yeah, not like they're toys that are meant to be big and fun, and fill a pricepoint. No siree, they most only make them to spite you.
Now on to some figures that really need an update;
Flywheels
Agreed, Battletrap is from what I understand great so his counterpart would be nice.
Crosshairs
Pointblank
Sureshot
Sure, why not. The TR Decepticon Targetmasters were good toys, I just hope they get made Headmasters to fit in with their Decepticon counterparts.
Headmaster Jrs
Definitely, I just hope if we get a Minerva they don't screw her up and make her a straight headswap of Nightbeat.
Autobot targetmaster jrs (other than Scoop)
That would be cool, I agree.
Firecons
We have got Cindersaur now so the other two are possible. Given that Cindersaur is a headswap of Slash I actually wouldn't mind Sparkstalker being retooled from Kickback and Flamefeather...well he'd need a new mold but you get the point.
Deluxe insecticons (other than chopshop)
Honestly Chop Shop deserves an actual deluxe figure (as all the Deluxe Insecticons do). They weren't in the cartoon so our only reference for size is the old toys.
Reflector (with a leader unlike Botcon version)
Agreed, though how they'd handle the three member altmode I'm not sure. They'd have to release him as a three-man set or else somehow give each member their own separate altmode.
An actual G2 Defensor (why not)
Probably because even by the standards of the G2 combiners, Defensor was hideously ugly. Not even cool ugly like G2 Menasor- just plain repulsive.
A downsized Devastator that scales with CW (why not)
Whilst I agree an actually sensibly sized and thus not riddled with compromises Devs would be nice, it ain't happening unless we get yet another change of design team. I'm happy with my Maketoys Giant anyway.

I'd still be inclined to disagree, here. The Classics/Henkei molds aren't the worst things ever, but there are definitely plenty of people who're dissatisfied with those molds, understandably so I think. CW Ironhide is alright, but one could understand G1-style collectors wanting a van instead of a pick-up truck; and while I would love to use UW Ratchet as my Generations Ratchet, since I'm one of those younger collectors I don't really have the money to shell out for a box-set-exclusive Japanese import toy unfortunately. Similar sort of situation for the Botcon guys, and while I love a lot of the other-continuity Ironhides and Ratchets, they're always aesthetically different enough that they don't really fill the same spot.
I think what it comes down to is that Ironhide and Ratchet have gotten plenty of figures, but they always seem to end up getting shafted one way or another. Be it disagreeable design or price/exclusivity, it's still really hard for a lot of collectors to get representations of these classic characters that they're satisfied with. That's why they're still so highly-demanded, I think.

The very cartoon that Deathsaurus came from. He was a gigantic combiner-sized Decepticon leader just like Overlord and BlackZarak were. Ever since Fort Max and Scorponok came along, Autobot and Decepticon leaders all got much bigger in size over in Japan after 1987.Rated X wrote:Deathsaurus....well he is a very obscure character (to most american collectors) and he already has an awesome Botcon 2005 figure, however I wouldnt be opposed to a new mold for him. The Pirahnacon combiners
An Allicon
A cartoon accurate Springer
Skylinx that splits into his lynx and pterodactyl like modes, leader class or larger
Reflector
Huffer / Pipes
I also love the evolution gimmick from Power of the Primes and would love to see a Megatron that evolves into Galvatron or whatever they had planned of Hound or Arcee or any of the other characters had won the contest.

And a shame to, but off topic.
Ontopic: I really don't have that much of requests. Hasbro / Takara already exceeded my expectations by lightyears with the Prime Wars Trilogy and Generations before that.
What I would really like is a normal G1 voyager sized Optimus Prime and Ironhide/Ratchet. I'm fine with everything else.

DJD set.
Leader class Scorponok.
Titan class Omega.
Leader Scorponok? Come on, man. You can't make the BIGGEST G1 toy into a leader. Titan or bust.
As for Reflector, I really wonder how a Cybertronian Reflector team could be re-interpreted as?

A lot of people really like Comics Scorponok better than Cartoon Scorponok.-Kanrabat- wrote:Leader Scorponok? Come on, man. You can't make the BIGGEST G1 toy into a leader. Titan or bust.

Do Classic Marvel Comics Scorponok can become a city? If not, I'm fine with it... Especially if he come with a vat and a Pretender embryo.

Nope. Just a big scorpion. He and Fort Max have traditionally been non-giant, slightly-larger-than-average-sized dudes in the comics. Only the cartoons had them be gigantic like Metroplex and Trypticon.-Kanrabat- wrote:Sabrblade wrote:A lot of people really like Comics Scorponok better than Cartoon Scorponok.-Kanrabat- wrote:Leader Scorponok? Well, I think that die has already been cast. We have a Titan Class Fortress Maximus already. His rival will NEED to be Titan sized too for parity in the Generations toy line. For anyone who really wants a smaller Scorponok, though, I would suggest the BotCon "Pirate" Scorponok figure. It's big, chunky, and although not exactly leader sized, since it's a mold from way back in Superlink/Energon, it'll still tower over most of the Deluxe and Voyager figures in your collection, especially those from recent years. The BotCon remold is even a Headmaster to boot! Let the rest of us have a proper, city-forming Titan Class Scorponok.

I want both.
I'd also rather see the existing combiners upped to Titan Class rather than Devastator and Predaking shrunk down. We're never getting MP combiners so may as well take advantage of having a design team that's so fixated on G1 accuracy in Generations to get a good MP placeholder (like the UW Constructicons are for me). Probably never happen, but I can dream.

That would be really expensive (though it would give the titan class a long list of possible releases...) but wouldn't the scale be off for mp?

Omega supreme should be an in between leader and titan figure if not a titan to scale with devastaor. At this point, skorponok should scale with fortress Maximus and tripticon..
To go back and revisit chug characters that need a fresh figure, ratchet and iron hide definitely top that list, grapple and inferno would be nice (following the current trend of staying closer to the original toys. Though the recent combiner inferno makes me doubt that will happen any time soon.
But yeah let’s brace another prime and bumblebee and hot rod...

Actually, I'd really like a Cybertronian Bee, Wheeljack, and the seekers based on the G1 cartoon. Official ones, not 3P.

most definitely i always wanted the pyramid seekers although the war within versions were cool too
and the cybertron starscream was a nice tribute it lacked the G1 style of the cartoon

The Autobot targetmasters are begging to be done, as is Flywheels.
And I really want a Star Saber, Deathsaurus, and Road Caesar.
