It’s interesting that razor claw looks super beefy in lion mode, but ends up super trim in combined mode. Where does all that bulk go?
Maybe a little more carbs in his diet can help out with that ballerina waist.

I like the longer arms - seems to fix his proportions somewhat. Third party hands will definitely go a long way. I'm still not sure about that skinny torso though.

Not as excited about anything in the potp series as I was for CW and TR but I’ll definitely be getting a few inc the dinobots, predaking and the legends toys. But many more figures are a pass than in the other lines

Will Onyx Prime get a Pretender shell, like the ones being released in stores? Initially I passed on them, but I might start picking them up, just for the shells and gunmodes.

He should get his own shell in the main line, in fact his detailing may reveal which character... unfortunately I have no idea:
I'm leaning towards Icepick, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Onyx Prime will be held/stored by Predaking, and in fact only come with Predaking!

They definitely should've gone the Devastator route and made Razorclaw close to leader size so this wouldn't have happened.

Sadly, Yes you are right, and why is Divebombs beast mode so off?

The size purists would, I'm sure. Again, all 5 G1 Predacons were the same size, and they combined. Sure, proportions were off on the torso like on FoC Bruticus (to be fair, Predaking wasn't designed by Takara proper, but an outside designer), but the novelty and characterization made up for that.
To replicate that and make a proportionate bot fit for this day and age, something had to give, in case relocating some of the torso's mass to his limbs. You know, I wonder if Leader with 4 Voyagers would even be possible, taking mass/weight, size and general construction in consideration. Anybody in here with a PhD in physics and/or architecture?

I've been thinking about this, and I believe - but this is just me thinking as I've been looking at screen all day while on call with people in the US - that this might be the G1 a small lot of fandom has been asking for.. and the team has tipped too far into.
Meaning they effectively look the same as G1, just with maybe a couple more joints? I liked the general look of Devastator more, that also did a similar thing, but this just feels.. eh.
Part of me wishes it was G1 but with more joints, we would get better looking beast modes (those were the best part of the G1 toy). Like that Divebomb, it is very are off from the G1 version in terms of where the head is.
I think its the reverse. They went for a totally new transformation on Predaking (which they did, by making the bull and rhino the full legs and making divebomb and rampage part of the torso instead of just the arms) and then tried to fit that with the blocky G1 toy look of individual components. So things look off.
Here is what I mean.
G1 divebomb
POTP Divebomb
Parts are no longer where they used to be.

Actually, Predaking looks okay, although the blocky rather than spikey/pointed pieces on the hips/crotch just look cheap to me... That design change is so drastic imo.
Is there any chance that the upper leg/hip portions can be removed from those figures that form the the legs??
At any rate, as someone else said, I'm most excited about Abominus in this line.

Because they are all as threathening. One isnt more powerful than the rest. They are a team you dont want to fuck with. Its kinda like with the Ninja Turtles, sure Leo's theleader but he isn't better than the rest. They are all equally bad ass and are all the same height and build.

To answer Sabsie's question. I could see that it would matter to some. Wouldn't matter to me. They are robotic animals. They can be any size they want/need to be. Also, Voltron. They are all the same animal. One is bigger than the rest. That's never mattered to anyone me.
Posted by Evil Eye on February 19th, 2018 @ 10:25am CST
I fear Titan Predaking tried to have his cake and eat it with scale. They could have had them all the same size and give Predaking himself a relatively small but solid torso, again like late 80s/early 90s anime robots. But they wanted to have them all be the same size and yet have a more "regularly" proportioned combined mode, and the result was...disappointing.

I am very disappointed. Was disappointed Saturday seeing the story on Twitter, disappointed Sunday, and still disappointed today.
He is so bland... the individuals are so awfully bland and boxy and... no, just no. Devastator and the Constructicons were decent in individual modes and beyond awesome in Devy mode, but Predaking here even looks bland and sad.
And he is the only way you can get Onyx Prime? and without a Prime Master suit? I'm very sad.
I still plan to get him, but he will be very low on the priority list. Which is a major let down for me

I feel like this was one combiner that no matter which way they went Hasbro was going to get shit for. Make him a standard scramble city type and you'll have people complaining about how he's no longer bigger than the other combiners and how Razorclaw is too big. You'd get the same complaints if they made Razorclaw closer to leader size here. If they made him a parts former for the legs you'd have people complaining about him being a parts former and be calling hasbro lazy. They don't make him a parts former and then this happens. They tried to do everything and unsurprisingly came up short.

I agree as well. But you know what? I am not fond of any of the constructicons on their own either. I think the only one that actually works well is Takara's Scrapper. The rest feel like OS KO toys, they really do. But the combined form is great so I dont mind. Same will happen with this one. At least my favourite Predacon, Rampage, seems like a good update to G1. Especially the tiger head.

So I do get the issues people see on it, but I think we should all hold off on pitchforks and torches till we get some real in-hands type of stuff.
If you don't like it your wrong! Kidding, if you really don't like it, that's cool. But I hope you guys are ok with my inner kid bouncing with glee at the toy.

Yeah, it is completely lacking of any style, charisma, or character, everything that really made predaking who he was wasn't really carried over to this...

Considering the retailer version looks to be a lighter yellow-orange color I'm going to guess Pincher:
First off the color of the shell matches the Prime Master to a T. Second Onyx Prime's thing is beasts and Pincher is one of the only humanoid Pretenders with an inner bot with a beast alt mode. I suppose they could go with Stranglehold since his inner bot is the same color as Onyx Prime, but I don't think a half naked guy with a porn 'stache makes for a good suit of armor (for anyone other than Stranglehold anyway). On the down side Onyx is probably being aligned with Decepticons if Predaking is anything to go by so he may very well be paired with a 'Con shell. (I know that in the story they don't really have alignments, but I feel like to mix their toy pairings up once they assign a shell or establish a pack-in in Predaking's case).

Especially the Steeljaw component which looks completely out of wack in the proportions department.

The leg bots have that long kibble that, as of now, doesn't integrate into robot modes.
It's at least $50 more than Devastator who, for better or worse, had weapons for the individual bots and Devastator, and worked the combiner kibble in better.
I'm disappointed, not CW Combaticons disappointed, but I've really lost interest in this figure. Oh well, like Devastator there's always Takara. Oh, wait... Damn!

It's not $50, but I vaguely remember Devastator being $120 for the MSRP... Well, nevermind on that. I thought it was $120, but my pre-order price was 139.99, and I believe that was a discounted price. Sounds like it's been $150 since Devs.
Though, technically Metroplex (the first Titan) was definitely not $150, but that is kind of a different story.
