In this post, we share his majesty Predaking, the fully combined Predacon team, consisting of the five voyagers Divebomb, Headstrong, Rampage, Tantrum Torox, and team leader Razorclaw. We have a couple of shots from the table, though better galleries will appear later this evening, including close ups of the limbs and the table's surroundings. Check it out below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub!

But it isn't good at all. The individual robots and beasts look like trash, the combined mode is a mess proportionally, there's stickers everywhere because apparently tampographs ain't in the budget anymore, the fingers are inexcusable for that size, and there isn't even a sword.
Generations is dead.
But hey, at least the Studio Series looks good.

It looks like they've modelled him on the Kre-O version. And I don't know how they did it, but they've made the individual modes blockier than G1.

I like these, I'd say they're on par with what we've gotten from the rest of Prime Wars. They aren't MPs, we should have always expected beasts just as unarticulated as Alpha Trion. After what Hasbro did to Devastator this feels like an improvement. I do hope Takara Tomy repackages him for Unite Warriors being a Titan (like they did with Trypticon for Legends) and toss in some weapons (like they did for Devastator).

After Devastator, this is pretty much what I expected. I'm not particularly wowed, but I bet King-mode will be solid and fun.

That was a product of the time. If they’re not doing it for any of the power of primes figure they’re not gonna do it for predaking. It’s not happening. If it shares the gimmick of enigmas and primemasters you can guarantee it’ll be in the same box and be the same toy. Just like how it’s been going and just like Trypticon was.

And it's these lack of weapons that will finally push me into getting 3P add-ons.

I try not to make negative posts, but seriously it’s been 34 years, you’d think they could make something other than bricks on sticks.
Posted by partholon on February 17th, 2018 @ 4:16pm CST
but even on simple things, wheres the spiked knuckle dusters on his fists?
the display is a dark nightmare of garish colours so maybe its taking away from his look but considering how far engineering has come on TF its sad to say how lack luster these guys look. i mean its essentially the same thing - voyager sized figs that combine - and the ancient one does it better.
im FAR more interested in abominus at this stage (and picking up that studios grimlock figure, christ what a fig THAT is. i keep hearing hound from the G1 cartoon in my head "that ones a walking fang factory!" )
more and more im wondering if they missed a trick and shouldnt have made the dinobots the voyager combining fig and gone the deluxe/voyager route with the preds.
ah well least he's coming out for those that didnt get the reissue. i dont want to seem nonplussed, ive bought more figs in the last 2yrs than the last 20.

I've been thinking about this, and I believe - but this is just me thinking as I've been looking at screen all day while on call with people in the US - that this might be the G1 a small lot of fandom has been asking for.. and the team has tipped too far into.
Meaning they effectively look the same as G1, just with maybe a couple more joints? I liked the general look of Devastator more, that also did a similar thing, but this just feels.. eh.

Apparently G1 Predaking was too fat for modern day Hasbro body shaming developers.

Gotta agree with va'al, I think that they went too far in a few places aesthetically. The beast modes look like cartoons, all bulbous and weird, not in keeping with the general aesthetic of the line. Not too mention that his combined mode's head looks like a knock-off upscale of the original, it doesn't look right for how large he is...

I was specifically looking at the individual Predacons, but your point also stands!
Similar for Volcanicus, really.

far closer to the comic than the stumpy ones on the original.

I obviously don't want to knock it for people who will most definitely enjoy him, just confirming my lack of interest in a potential interesting (to me) figure!

Yeah, I'm down to lukewarm now, he should've stolen the show, but comes off as a bland uspcaling, I mean, volcandowhat gets spiked knuckles, but the combiner to which those are part of his image doesn't get them? lame...

- Torox and Headstrong form the whole leg, not just the lower leg.
- Divebomb and Rampage have part of the torso. That unfortunately prove detrimental for Divebomb's Beast Mode. Worth noting is that his upper body is turned inside out for Arm Mode.
- Speaking of being turned inside out, that's the story of PotP Razorclaw's life.
I will freely admit Devastator's construction looked a bit... dodgy to me, and Predaking looks on the same level at first. Eagerly awaiting reviews... and the news that Onyx Prime will get a standalone release as well. He is touted as a "Limited Edition"...

Yeah it definitely is how things have been going for the first past few years. You have to wonder how long it can be viable. Regardless, it works but it’s not for me personally. Devastator worked for me, still does too. However these altmodes look terrible to me. And honestly everything else is fine. The bot modes are a lot like the Constucticons, compromised but still good. The combined mode looks pretty good too. It definitely seems that they learned a lot from Devastator. Unfortunately the aesthetics leave me uninterested and a little bored.
And nothing negative towards those that like it, because I really want to like it too.

Having looked at everything properly...I think I'm glad that I won't be able to get predaking, if you ask me it was a waste of a titan slot considering there was better alternatives to pick from, that being said to those that wish to enjoy him, good luck with the hunt...I want pictures

It’s interesting that razor claw looks super beefy in lion mode, but ends up super trim in combined mode. Where does all that bulk go?
Maybe a little more carbs in his diet can help out with that ballerina waist.

Lore Keeper wrote:The Predaking on the show floor seems to be mistransformed. The legs of his arm components are fully extended, whereas they are retracted on the CGI render and box art. It would explain why his arms look so off and why his hands reach all the way down to his knees.
I like the longer arms - seems to fix his proportions somewhat. Third party hands will definitely go a long way. I'm still not sure about that skinny torso though.

Not as excited about anything in the potp series as I was for CW and TR but I’ll definitely be getting a few inc the dinobots, predaking and the legends toys. But many more figures are a pass than in the other lines

Will Onyx Prime get a Pretender shell, like the ones being released in stores? Initially I passed on them, but I might start picking them up, just for the shells and gunmodes.

He should get his own shell in the main line, in fact his detailing may reveal which character... unfortunately I have no idea:
I'm leaning towards Icepick, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Onyx Prime will be held/stored by Predaking, and in fact only come with Predaking!

They definitely should've gone the Devastator route and made Razorclaw close to leader size so this wouldn't have happened.
