Toys R Us cancels Masterpiece Soundwave and Acid Storm purchases made on eBay last night

As some of you aware, late last night Toys"R"Us posted of some of their SDCC exclusives on their eBay store. Among those exclusive items were Masterpieces Acid Storm and Soundwave. Earlier this afternoon, people who placed orders last night began receiving the following cancellation email:

Dear XXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting Toys "R" Us on eBay regarding the status of your order, Order #13357975.

We regret to inform you that we had to cancel your order due to our warehouse being out of stock.

We understand your interest in this item and suggest periodically checking back on the website for future availability. We are sorry we couldn't fulfill all of the items on your order and appreciate your interest in shopping with us.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to respond to this email. Thank you again for contacting us. We value your business and look forward to serving you in the future!

People have also reported receiving a refund, but no cancellation notice and no indication telling them they received a refund until PayPal notified them.

For those of you who placed an order late last night, there is no reason to panic at this time. Masterpiece Soundwave and Acid Storm will be available at SDCC, ToysRUs.com and Toys R Us stores on July 18th.

On the Soundwave ordering page (which has been removed), a Benjamin from Bristow, VA contacted Toys R Us Customer Service inquiring if Toys R Us will open up pre-orders for this item or if the items will just go live on July 18th. He received the following response from Toys R Us:

This product is not available for pre-orders at this time and will be available on July 18, 2013 at 9AM Eastern Time.

Approximately 405 Soundwaves were sold through the following listings: Listing #1, Listing #2, Listing #3, and Listing #4.

Acid Storm was sold in two listings. The first was here followed by a second listing here.

These listings were not listed as a pre-order but instead were listed as being in stock and ready to ship within one business day. However, the title of all of the items stated "not available for purchase online until July 18th, 2013".

As the night went on, things looked good, but then one report came in that an order was canceled, then another and so on. And the numbers increased as the day continued, as reported by various Seibertronians as well as other Transformers fans around the Internet.

Basically, someone at TRU posted their SDCC items on eBay last night, way ahead of their release date of July 18th. It went through as a sale instead of a preorder and it was stated that most of these orders would be delivered by Friday or Saturday.

TRU doesn't even have these in their possession, and because of that they have begun canceling these eBay orders and refunding people their money.

The items will still be available on the 18th, both in store and online on their website.

Not quite. TRU accidentally put some up for "preorder" through their eBay site (after having already announced that they weren't taking preorders until the 18th) and didn't realize their mistake until people had already placed orders. Everyone is getting a refund.

I'm really leaning towards trying to get a tru soundwave on that what it seems like special nite. I'm starting to get the feeling that everybody wants in on this toy. And I have to have what the ppl want.

My Acid Storm was refunded as well, but for other reasons:

they even completely removed the listing from their website.

i had the page bookmarked so i didnt forget to try and get it on the 18th but when i checked tonight, got an error that the page doesnt exist.

Since it wasn't included in the edited news article, here are the SKN's again, so you can find both products:

Soundwave: 204083
Acid Storm: 203907

You can use this in store to have them find it in stock, find out when it's coming to the stores or if it's even on the truck.

And once the 18th comes, you can put those right in the search bar and be taken directly to their ordering pages on TRU.com

They might put the pages back up, or they may assign them new URLs to avoid any publicity attached to this mess, so the SKNs will be your best bet to find them in store and online.

To me it seems like a TRU employee trying to scam customers, it clearly states they can not sell them until the 18th just like Metroplex couldn't go up until a certain date for pre-order yet they put it up anyway. This kind of crap pisses me off to no end, again something a lot of people want and someone I am sure somewhere was trying to take advantage of that. The Soundwave is a great deal, only thing I am interested in, and if I cant get one I wont be paying the ridiculous mark-up that will follow with scalping. So I hope TRU actually releases them on time as promised in the correct way.

I don't think it was a "scam" it was just a mistake. People theorized on TFW that they run a script to put everything on the webtsite on eBay, and these items were added that way to the eBay store. It happened with ALL the SDCC toys (MLP, World War Z figures, etc) so it wasn't just TFs. They were all cancelled, you can see all the negatives on their feedback.

So it was an annoying mistake, especially if someone has $200 tied up in paypal, but they'll be available in just over a week, regardless.

Side note: I'm the "Benjamin" from VA! YAY internet fame! Before this everyone on TFW was freaking out about the possible time it might go up, and I was the only person to email them and ask. Ha. You're welcome, guys! =P

MP-10 came out at $99.99 after the internet mess. It was a few weeks into retail sightings that they started raising the price. A lot of it had to do with TRU Times Square getting big money for it when no one else was, then they jacked it. Though people who complained and showed the stores the price on the shipping cases were able to get it brought down to $99 again, sans a few people.

Before it was all said and done, it went up to $150.00, I believe. So, Soundwave will be $119.99 at first, but I'd say about a month into it, it'll jump.

No need to worry just yet. I fully understand why, though.

Was it really that hard to get MP-10? I had multiple opportunities to purchase him in store. Got one for me and one for my son. Kept thinking "man, these are more plentiful than people think". Then after about 3 weeks, POOF! Never to be seen at TRU again. First one was $99 straight up, second one I had to show the price on the box to get the $99 price.

Hoping for similar here.

MP 10 was restocked at my local TRU at least three times, and was out of stock within two weeks each time. I had already gotten one by then, so it didn't matter....

I'm really glad that i purchased the Takara Soundwave and cassettes......won't have to worry at all if i see the Hasbro version. I like the feeling of not having to mad dash to TRU every week to see if it made its way to the shelves......

Here's a quick update to the Toys R Us SDCC exclusives situation that has transpired in the past 24 hours with Masterpiece Soundwave and Acid Storm. I just received the following message from Toys R Us, which mentions their contractual obligations to the manufacturer. I'm assuming this is referring the fact that these toys all have a July 18th, 2013 "street date" to coincide with SDCC. While many of customers might be upset, it is important to keep in mind that mistakes happen. The toys are scheduled to be released next Thursday at San Diego Comic Con, on ToysRUs.com and apparently they will be available in stores as well.
