Transformers Rise of the Beasts Toyline Still Expected to Come out in April 2022

And unlike with Godzilla or Minions, Transformers is a toy brand that stands on it's own, with a dedicated space and dedicated core market.
I wrote all that to explain what seems to be the outcome chosen by Hasbro regarding what happens to the Rise of the Beasts toyline. According to this article from TFW2005, retailers around the world have been given April 2022 as their supply date. Toys may come later, or before, but that is the intended date for the wave 1 toys to be at retailers. We also learn that there will be multiple waves, with the second wave planned for August 2022.
Since the movie is already finished with the live action shooting, that means the bulk of what is left is the CGI effects, where the bots come into play. And with a whole extra year to deal with that part, it is very likely that the toys in the Rise of the Beasts line will not reflect the final look of the characters. This will probably be fine for fans and kids alike since, for the fans, the toyline was never aimed at them and, for kids, there won't be anything to compare the toys to. It will simply be another toyline on the shelf for parents to buy and kids to want. If you want to know the contents of the toyline so far, please click here.
There had been some rumours of more screen accurate toys coming out for fans after the movie is released, but there was never any concrete evidence as to when. As they did with car mode Dropkick and Jet mode Shatter, Hasbro may wat until they have the final CGC models to base their sculpts on, meaning accurate figures for the film could come out only in 2024.
And yes, to further confirm, the Rise of the Beasts toyline that is currently set to be coming to stores in 2022 is going to be very similar to the Cyberverse toyline with a myriad of classes based on different gimmicks. It will be interesting to see if Hasbro promotes it at all. The Bumblebee movie line was not heavily promoted to fans with it's announcement coming from the GeekDad website.
One last thing, since Transformers toylines tend to sell on the basis that they are Transformers toys, movie lines are usually stocked and ordered for 2 years/holiday seasons rather than just when the film is out (hence why it was nonstop movie product on shelves between ROTF and DOTM). So it could very well be that the cross promotion will still have a chance to be in full effect in 2023 when the movie comes out.

I guess I'll wait until we see the toys before I make a decision. The only things I'm looking forward to this year was the handful of Beast Wars characters that are allegedly going to release in the current Generations line, so it's not like I won't have the funds free (although GI Joe Classified series has been eating into my pockets a lot this past year, haha).

You were still going to get them even though they are gimmick toys like the BB movie line?

I doubt I'd get the gimmicky subline stuff, but there could very well be more traditional style toys and Studio Series stuff for the movie releasing at the same time, just like they did with Bumblebee. That was what I was specifically referring to.

There are 0 RotB Studio Series figures coming out this year, according the years-worth of mainline SS listings were found in the big Target leak with Legacy.Spider5800 wrote:william-james88 wrote:Spider5800 wrote:Hmm, not sure how I feel about this. We've known for months now that there were going to be 0 studio series toys coinciding with ROTB in 2023. Just the movie's own subline. Hence my question.

Yes, I think that is both Hasbro and the retailer's plans. They need toys aimed at kids on shelves in 2022. Thankfully, unlike with Shang-Shi and Black Widow, Transformers sell fine without the need for direct accompanying media since they are a toy brand first and have legacy knowledge (from previous toys/media).
And for the characters that would be new to kids/parents, technically, it will be no different than when they were selling non show characters in Beast Wars in the 90s.

I hope we can get away from Bay as soon as possible with the Live action stuff. The lovers had 5 movies and 5 big fat toylines + extending Studio Series toys, these guys had their stuff. Now I want a completely different more G1 aimed Live Action Transformers movie series please.
Just grab the War for Cybertron Games, Unicron Trilogy and Beast wars and be inspired by that with a complely new non-Bionicle 3 milion body parts design. Look at Bumblebee and Pacific Rim.
It's time.

Unlike many others, I do not think these will get the fan friday treatment. The BB toys were announced with no buzz since they were not targetting collectors, same as these. And with them just being 2 months away (as far as we know), they must be out there somewhere, not on the factory floor but in packaging and with stock photos available for retail sites. It feels like there is a bunch of stuff out there just waiting to burst out. And in this case it ends up being our first look at any character. So it's very exciting even though the toys themselves are not for me.
I agree, especially since Hasbro doesn't even have anything to promote this year and any kind of big fanfare will just highlight how disappointing the delay is. This will get the Cyberverse treatment, our first look will be from a store showing them off and it feels like Hasbro is trying to wait as long as possible before that happens. Like Cyberverse there's still a Deluxe offering that will appeal more to collectors, but didn't get a big reveal from Hasbro. Maybe they were planning to display them at Toy Fair, but with that not happening probably wont be anything.

I don't think they are that level yet. When the movie comes out they can restock the toys or repackage them, maybe even do something in the same style of the Buzzworthy line, with some minor paint updates.

I think most fans will do the same they did with Bumblebee, just get the Studio Series versions when they come out.

Well, unless some of us think the "kid's stuff" is rather awesome and buy it anyway.
Like that huge lights and sounds Bee, Power Charge Bumblebee for me.

That's part of my point. Those who would buy these toys would buy them regardless, so it doesn't matter. While I did nean parents and kids, that totally extends to any fan of these types of toys.

Short version: A Jurassic Park toy YouTuber and an Instagrammer both had their channel/page removed without warning by Mattel for showing off toys from the latest JP movie (the YT channel was instantly given 3 strikes by them). One legally bought toys from an online store that released them early while the other showed off stock photos that were already made public and discussed them. The former Instagrammer also got one strike on their YT channel. Both spent years supporting Mattel's JP toy line and driving customers to the line only for Mattel to do something like this in retaliation for something the content creators couldn't have possibly imagined was wrong (and really isn't) rather than going off the stores selling the figures early and originally posting the stock photos.
Just imagine what it would be like if Hasbro did the same thing. With all the leaked information from insiders and photos of figures stolen from factories out there around the internet it seems like it wouldn't take much for Hasbro to completely decimate a large chunk of the fandom on the net if they chose to. I guess we can be thankful that Hasbro is a little more fan aware and forgiving or else things could look very different.
I posted this here because RotB toys are coming soon complete with an April release that seems pretty solid as a street date. Pictures will be showing up pretty soon, but I doubt Hasbro will make any kind of big deal out of them showing up early since the movie is still well over a year away so I doubt they're too concerned with the toys spoiling anything at this point.

Hasbro and Mattel were the ones who reported YouTube to the FCC and started the whole COPA debacle a couple of years ago. So yeah, Hasbro isn't wonderful, probably just lazy.

I highly doubt it.
The smol BW characters are only in the OG BW universe. Every times the Beasts and normal TF interacted with each others in WFC, comics, and so on, they were all the same size. Meaning giant freaking animals. So I'm pretty sure the live movie will be no different.

Maybe in the toy line that's why the beasts are weaponizer style figures? Imagine if the studio series toys are the same size as the Arcee sisters, they could do all the characters in two releases. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea.

If we are to believe all this, which is the most logical explanation for this toy, then we can start the fun speculation we were all giddy for with us getting hints at designs in the film from the toys for the kid centric line.
This Optimus Prime, for instance, becomes our first look at what Prime will look like in robot mode. It basically confirms that they are keeping the same model that we saw in the Bumblebee movie (further confirming that this is a sequel to that film, if anyone still doubted that). The alt mode is inaccurate to what we have seen on set, but then again, it does resemble an offroad racing truck and Bumblebee is getting an offroad upgrade in the film. So this is either a hint of what we could see in the film, or (more probably) of what could have been planned for the film at one point. We saw that many times in the past like in Age of Extinction with all the product for a dropped Silver Knight Optimus component to the film and Slash, a Dinobot that was also dropped from the film. It could also simply by a toyline only offroad theme to go with Bumblebee giving kids and parents something new and thematic while still familiar.
Also, this toy would/could be the Smash Changers Optimus Prime from the Rise of the Beasts line that we reported on a month and a half ago.

Yes, that's exactly what will happen. The movie being released or not doesn't really matter, what matters is the retailers get what they planned for and no one has to redo their plans (neither hasbro nor the retailers)

I guess? I feel using these toys for a new filler line unrelated to the movie or any media (like Classics back in 2006) would have been less confusing, but reusing an established line might save some money on packaging and advertisement; after all, the logo and packaging styles are already designed.

Yeah they are definitely trying to reorient this massive line in the most cost effective way. Not only is that line established in terms of design assets, but also in terms of expectations. Cyberverse is the young kids toyline, so that's what will be used for these toys which are made for your kids.

While the toys may not excite fans, what is exciting is that this is our very first look at Optimus Primal from Rise of the Beasts. Of course, it is likely that the final movie model will look different BUT this does give us an indication that they are being closer to the original designs than the Bayverse bots were in the first movie. It also gives us an idea of scale, meaning that Prime and Primal would be around the same size, as has been the standard scale of late. You'll also notice that this Optimus Prime toy also turns into the same off road truck mode as the previous toy. These should be released through the Cyberverse line this year. The Images come from a Chefatron review.
