Fellow Seibertronian Dominus Prime has alerted that youtube reviewer Ton Ton Reviews has once again managed to get their hands on an upcoming figure, this time Studio Series 86 Slag. Although the Leader class Dinobot has yet to be officially revealed by Hasbro, some early images of the figure have been circulating for a few weeks. Check out the video below!
Hoping Hasbro is going to give all the Dinobots Leader class toys? Mostly excited for the included Daniel figurine? Let us know in the comments below!

Who all here would rather they broomed the mini-figures and gave the dinobots their "Energo" swords?

Of course I'd rather have the swords, but only Snarl had one on the show to say nothing of the movie.

I said this same thing...
At least a couple different flame (“blast”) effects could’ve been made instead of the Wheelie or Daniel figures.
Not to mention, between the 5 Dinobots (assuming they are all getting made), could’ve shared at least a few of them, even if they weren’t repainted.
Not that it costs that much, but the pegs on the Dinobots dinosaur torsos & shoulders could’ve been omitted.
The more I’ve thought about it, the more I would’ve been in favor of this option over swords...
Leave the sword game to 3P.
I hope Hastak is starting to realize that people don’t want “cute, little gimmicks” that are half-a$$ed...
We either want something done well, or something different all-together that is done well.

That's true, he was known for his flame breath. Would have probably cost Hasbro less than an extra fig and be something the fans actually would have appreciated.

Just crank out a few more of the Jefire blast effect parts, save on the tooling

Considering this will probably sell well, I doubt they'll learn anything, and Transformers has always had gimmicks *shrug*

This! I wouldn't mind the little Wheelie if he wasn't stuck bow-legged like he just rode a horse for ten miles or something.

The point is it's nearly worthless.
And I guarantee these leader class Dinobots are going make Hastak money. No doubt.
But it has nothing to do with these pack-in figures.
And Hastak knows this.
No one there proposed, "Think of all the fans and collectors who have been waiting to start or add to their collection of sitting figures!!! You're welcome, fans!! You're welcome, collectors!!".
But no, they're not "learning" anything from using $2 worth of plastic to help justify a $50 price tag.
I would still pay $50 for these Dinobots... That's not the issue. But trying to justify that cost by throwing in a worthless little hunk of plastic is basically a slap in the face and a kick in the crotch...
Again, I say make it legit, or don't make it.

The only Cartoon deco that I like is Swoop, so I'll probably end up with him.

Gauntlet101010 wrote:Wheelie and Daniel may as well not exist. I kinda get what they wanted to go for there. But. A figure like that just isn't even worth making.
No I get it as well... They are nods to the ‘86 movie...
But honestly instead of those figures, make forearm covers for Grimlock, and fill-out Slag’s dino horns!
There probably still would’ve been enough budget after that to throw in a couple blast effects.
And if they’re not new sculpts, fine. Make them out of translucent Orange & call it good.
But yeah, those little figures are literally a waste of plastic.

Nuclearxpotato wrote:I'm holding out hope that they'll do Toy versions of the Dinobots. I missed Grimlock my two chances, and Slug does not appeal to me. So I'm gamblin' big. They could use the budgets of the excluded minifigures on paint, swords, or just generally making it easier to produce. The Dinobots sell well, so doing Toy decos as Selects / exclusives isn't exactly a risk.

I had this same thought... Toy deco’s are definitely possible...
I’ve also thought that it may be even more of a possibility that we get these new Dinobots in G2 colors.
I would think toy versions would sell better. And if they’re from Gen Selects, I wouldn’t call that a risk at all.

Not sure if I want him to go with my alicon or if I should save my wallet some pain and stick with alicon
Also he said it! Confirmed! Something along the lines of "gnaw didn't have the gun in the movie but we wanted to make sure he had it"
Swoop better come with 5 swords lol

Considering Swoop is rumoured to come in at the Voyager price point, be prepared to be looking at other options for the swords.
I'm also guessing with the gun thing that it was just to ensure no plastic wastage.

I'm definitely getting Slug, but the other two I'll more than likely skip.
I'm the opposite, I'm hoping there's Toy Dinobots on the horizon (at least for the ones with major differences) so I skipped Slug and preordered the other two weirdos.
As for Jolt / Grindor, I'm really surprised as well! I was really hoping for Jolt at least, I've always been fond of him and would love to see him.
I found it weird that they actually acknowledged the leaks and made multiple offhand hints to future figures. Perceptor's comment was so weird that I was expecting a sneak peek at him. Also by the sounds of things, he may retain the artillery mode.

As big a fan I am of the animated series, since they were all released together as toys, and in the comic originally, I never think of the team of Dinobots as 3 then 2 even though they had a skirmish in SOS Dinobots, it's always a solid team of 5, and that's it. But the way he said it kind of leads me to believe the next release will be Sludge, then to follow with Snarl and Swoop (or Swoop and Snarl) to complete them.
Makes sense to me. I'm betting Sludge is next as well.
Snarl was my favorite based on bot appearance, but I guess that gives me something to look forward to down the road.
I mean, I really like all 5 so the fact that we're probably getting all of them (especially with how these look) is really exciting.
I'll be getting Wreck-gar and Gnaw for sure...
This is going to be tough, because as of right now I only want to get multiples of one or the other.
Although I guess by the time any other Junkion is released, I'll probably be more okay with dropping more money... Either way, I see getting 1 Junkion variant, and up to 3 Sharkticons.
This is where I'll say Hastak is smart about spreading out releases as a strategy to sell more.
Not to mention, I'll be even more tempted by Kup since I'll actually see him again (I only saw him in-store once)... Even though I don't love the way he looks, I pass on so many and I probably like him enough.

I have three TR Sharkticons, so the new Gnaw just isn't necessary for me. It looks great, but I already have an army of them.

Your Gnaw team need a leader, a big brute. So having a big Gnaw surrounded by 3 or more little ones will look really cool.

If I had a couple older Sharkticons (I only have 1), I'd so this same thing.
I was JUST re-looking at the Gnaw photos, and I don't see just getting 1. I think that looks really pretty awesome for what it is. The movie-accurate colors take the whole figure up a big notch. On top of the fact that the sculpt work is really nice.
Also, he had a really pretty generic-looking face... The robot eyes may be just a little large, but still, overall I think it's on point.
I'm almost positive I'll end up with 3 of these.

The only one I have 3 of are the micro trio that came in the Cyberverse set with the 1 step Hotrod. Those mini guys are great! But the rest are only 1 of, meaning the Cyberverse "deluxe" and the previous Legends. I'm missing the G1 original dearly. Unfortunately, the real one if too expensive and I don't want a KO.
TlDr, there's enough releases of Gnaw at this point that only having ONE of each version will troop build a decent army! And I'm pretty sure that SS86 deluxe will be re-release in a "fancier" paintjob or another color sooner than later.
Regardless of the version, Gnaw will always be "troop buildable."

SS86 Hot Rod was repacked in the second wave of SS figures released in 2021. So nomatter how you look at it, this is the third wave to have SS86 figures this year.
But make it easy for yourself, count it as Hasbro does, it's the 3rd wave of SS toys.

Anyone think it's going to be based on sales?
I know a new live action movie is due out in the somewhat near future, but by throwing-in a few G1 figures here and there, doesn't that help spread-out the regular SS figures in a more traditional/ideal way?

Speaking of DOTM Bee, Takara did the pink "Lazerbeak". So I bet this easy repaint could appear in SS as well.

This just in, YouTuber TonTon Review already have the video review of the highly anticipated Studio Series '86 Gnaw! This bot is a deluxe class faithfull as possible to the 1986 movie.
This Sharkticon is the biggest yet, not counting the G1 original. But with improved articulations and better scaling towards the current Generations of figures, this may be the best Gnaw to date.
Are you planning to get this one, or is the previous Generations still good enough? Will you troop build this newest version?
Let us know down below!

The issues of bot color being seen in the beast mode don't bother me as much as I thought it would.
The legs are just a continuation of the color that's around his beast mouth, which helps some.
The blue isn't ideal, but because it's not some random color and is the same blue seen in other areas, I think it's okay.
Seeing the back of the bot head inside the beast mouth is by no means ideal, but it doesn't stand out to me as badly as it could.
This will be the one figure in all of my collection that is displayed in alt mode.
And while I think the bot mode is good (although the eyes are bit big), the beast mode is display-worthy.
I initially thought the legs looked a little goofy, but now, I'm good with those.
Other positives about the beast mode for me:
The eyes, teeth and "face" details look great.
The colors are pretty spot on.
Overall the shape is awesome. Where I thought previous versions looked a little too spherical, this guy has more of an oblong, egg-ish form that I think looks really good.
From what I could see, the molded detail on the back (in the dark gray area) were really nicely done. And the gray area does taper some before getting to the tail, which I appreciate.
Now I'm relatively excited for this figure, and I'll be getting 3 for sure.
*sidenote
This review also helped me realize that I didn't really miss out by not getting the Allicon.
Imo that beast mode isn't display worthy.
