Some of the kids make great points about the sellable value of the repurposing of the franchise, its appeal to multiple generations, and the effect it could have on the different generations - plus this one: "I think they [G1] could still be cool today, but now that we've been exposed to the movies.. the movies look so different, and that's what we're used to!"
Warning: It'll make a lot of people feel old. For real.

aren't some of those kids too young to have seen the movie, or is the UK rating just higher?

Yeah I mean my parents were cool, one of my favorite childhood movie's was goodfellas. It gave me an appreciation for goodfeathers on animaniacs.

My parents let me watch Bruce Lee movies when I was 10. I turned out okay...relatively speaking.

They should have had my 7 year old son up there. He loves the G1 cartoon because I've been watching at least 1 episode a day since 2009 (90% season ONE).

On a related note, I showed my 3 year old nephew and his 4 year old sister some of the first Bay movie.
At that point they'd only watched Rescue Bots which they like.
It was just wonderful to see the awe in their faces. They knew Bumblebee straight away.
I asked them if they liked it and they did. Wouldn't let me turn it off

Desslok2201 wrote:The one little girl says it all.."I don't care (what it is) as long as I'm watching TV" This explains a lot of my questions about prime time TV
She also says "As long as it's good."
For comparisons, they should have used screenshots from the film. Or at least the TV. The marvel character sheets are..... not flattering. Interesting how they showed the DW Prime, and all the kids said that one was better.
I loved the bit where the kid does a double take and asks "Did Megatron just turn into a gun??"

I don't know I never really contributed to this sites news until last year and even then it was mostly for movie related news.
Maybe I'm not remembering things correctly.
What I do know is that the Fine Bros manipulate people to have similar opinions to themselves you can tell their either trying to make G1 look bad or their really crap at researching.
Edit: they did the same thing with my Little Pony on Teens react oh boy how furious I was that day.

Yup.
I've watched a few of these before and found them ridiculous. I wasn't surprised at how this played out.

To be entirely honest, I don't think G1 comes off bad in this video at all.
And all the kids make some really interesting points on the generational difference between then and now, and TRANSFORMERS that TRANSFORM vs the movieverse aesthetics - I dunno, I felt it was very neutral overall, and a good insight into the current target audience of the franchise (movies aside).
The statements about money and remakes! SO ON POINT

I do agree that they should have used other comparisons, like movie 1 Optimus instead of movie 4, like they did with Bee. And they should look at other media, not just 2. Prime, RiD, and the IDW comics would have made good comparisons too.
Overall, this was good and I liked it. out of

Yep, agreed. I don't think any of their videos are made to make one thing look better than another and I certainly didn't get that out of this video. They never once said anything negative about G1 and even said that our generation loved it when we were kids.
I think what people are forgetting, however, is that these are "reaction videos" so of course they're going to optimize the kids' reactions by comparing character designs that couldn't be any further apart. If anything the kids seemed to really like the G1 look over the movie designs and how they actually looked like they could turn into something. I guess if you went in expecting the worst that's what you'll get, but for me I'd say the kids actually appreciated the originals more than they usually do in these videos.

"Oh yeah, throwback!"
"Transformers... The song's catchy, I like it."
"Okay, this time I like the old one."
"The newer one looks like a viking."
"The new one doesn't look like a car at all."
"And that one actually makes sense." (referring to G1 Optimus)
"They shouldn't even be called Transformers. I mean, look at them, they're just evil-looking robot guys. Back then, they really deserved the name Transformers."

The Finebros are crappy people though. (Bad memories of a email reply that was well offensive)

how did we react to watching your parents old shows
compared with the newer ones we watched as a kid
although interesting this doesn't prove anything new

It depends on your generation. In the very early 80's when I was a kid, there weren't many channels or different shows to watch. So we grew up watching EVERYTHING from the 50's on up. Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, Heckel and Jeckel...all of these were 20 years old or more but were still in syndication. That being said, I definately prefered Bravestar or Silverhawks to Heckel and Jeckel

I was actually surprised at how mature some of their responses were, totally not what I was expecting when you pitch the idea that kids under 13 are gonna watch and compare the '84 cartoon to the modern stuff.

Honestly this video was about what I expected. "OH MY GOD THERE WAS A CARTOON?" (speaks to how well the current cartoons hit their market) "Wow the old ones look bad"
But what broke my heart was favoring new Bumblebee over G1 Bumblebee. Although yeah, they should have used animation stills instead of bad comic art.
Oh, and "He (Optimus Prime) would never have a gun!" Kid, he transformed his damn arm into a gun more than once. He has a trailer full of guns. It's not all face-slicing all the time.

I grew up with Nickelodeon and Nick@Nite... I loved I Love Lucy, Bewitched, and the Facts of Life just as much as the Angry Beavers, Rocko's Modern Life, and Beast Wars.
