Oh wow, I didnt know the wings were unpainted on the animated version. I quite like the deco on TAV Swoop, anyone know what it is referencing?

No one knows. It's probably just a unique deco not based on anything. Or it's just a similar deco concept to Grimlock and Slug in using black with another color (Grimlock: Green and black, Slug: Purple and black, Swoop: Red and black).

Though, if one attributes Slug's purple to AOE Slug's toy, then maybe Swoop's red comes from the red of G1 Swoop's toy.

It seems to follow the color pattern for FOC Swoop, which technically is the same Swoop (though I dont agree with that interpretation of the timeline):



And I like the theory of the similar black and other color concept. Each would then pull from a different source. Grimlock with RID, Slug from AOE toy and Swoop from G1 toy (or WFC).

FOC Swoop's colors are G1 Swoop's colors. Silver, red, black, and with the translucent beak interpreted as gold like all the G1 fiction did:




As for the timeline thing, I view RID Grimlock as a new breed of naturally-born Dinobots birthed from the Optimus-revitalized Well instead of being the same guy as FOC Grimlock. Two guys can have the same name.

One last thing: you have him slightly mistransformed as you can extend the neck to separate the head from the collar. However, the head itself is easily popped off because the joint socket is too shallow to properly hold the ball.

Denial makes sense

Unlike what the internet will tell you, the "new" Robots in Disguise line has its fans. One of the main compaints from this line, however, was the problem with Grimlock's scale. He towers over his friends on the show but Hasbro's line doesn't go beyond the warrior/deluxe class for the more traditional collector figures. This is why Takara's Transformers Adventure Battle Grimlock figure is probably one of the most sought after figures from the corresponding line in Japan since it is a retool of the Voyager class FOC Grimlock. There is a lot of retooling done and you can see the breakdown of this toy through the three reviews below. We have two from fellow Seibertronians, EbeforeI and Chuckdawg1999 as well as an extra long one from Emgo. Enjoy!

You should get it, it's very well done and this sounds like one of those figures which will increase in value over time.
