1. I've know since I saw the first pics of this figure that I'd buy it and add paint myself.
2. Knowing now that he has the same port as Sunstreaker on the underside of the hood piece, I'm expecting/hoping someone will 3-D-print a pair of wings to plug in back there. Otherwise, I'll try it myself (don't know much about 3-D designing, but I'm hoping to learn sometime soon).

I've done that plenty when breakdown came out and I still can't see why they chose those godawful hips over a leg transformation scheme similar to dragstrip's. Okay, I'm crapping on it a *little* bit, but still, putting it next to the masterpiece is a terrible idea, all it can *do* is highlight everything lacking with the toy.
Haha, I agree with everything you said and yes, it was cruel to put him next to the MP. So cruel that I felt compelled to use that one as the picture in the thumbnail

Oh man, I wish we'd know soon but we wont know for a long time. They JUST released the first silhouette teas of Bruticus. Gonna be a long wait.

I was okay with it for a long time, but (Correct me if I'm wrong) Skylynx is the only new mold for the fifteen CW figures coming out this year! (Sky reign, Computron, Liokaiser) What happened to the days when each character got his own toy?
Well Skyreign, computron and liokaiser are not the only CW figures coming out this year. There is also Victorion, G2 Superion, G2 Menasor and G2 Bruticus. So a total of 35 limbs and torsos. And of those the completely new molds for Hasbro are:
Skylynx
Afterburner (that mold was never released by hasbro so far)
But that is just for the completely news ones. Hasbro does count Bruticus as 2016 and he had a new mold. And we dont know how many are retools out of these.
Forgot about Victorion and the G2 sets

I'm still thrilled we're getting these figures, and I do get them for the characters, but I don't think there's been one mold (save the new molds) that hasn't been used at least five times.

And there's no guarantee TT will even release those limbs. As far as they're concerned, they're simply another set of redecos and retools that would be hard to push, with Wheeljack as the only reshell (with the possibility they'll use him for Lightspeed).
No, TakaraTomy will probably go their nostalgia route and pick the Liokaiser one over Sky Reign as their use for Sky Lynx.

Why? They did o/p max and those had much less re-tooling than the new set; I imagine that they'll use them in some manner a'la Grand Glavatronus

TT isn't the one to release retool after retool, unlike Hasbro. Look at how many Generations retools they've been skipping. Besides, Liokaiser would be a much more promising gamble than another group of Autobots would be.

My point being, that they do this - or so I'm told by various people who know things - to give the Japanese public the ability to get as many releases of the molds as they can so they don't have to import the hasbro ones; wasn't that the entire purpose for grand galvatronus - and even o/p max to an extent since they aren't 'G1' like the rest of the UW line...
I mean, you say they don't release retool after retool, but they did that with offroad/ironhide, streetwise/prowl, aerielbots from galvy...surely then, with a set of retools featuring much more retooling (trailbreakers new hand/foot, cannon arm, Hound, Wheeljack - completely redesigned) they would release them... Perhaps not as hasbro has (swap wheeljack for exhaust, etc.) but in some manner...
And besides, isn't liokaiser just actual repaints, and computron, they'd be getting their second use of the bigroove mold, so there's that...

I'm glad you brought up Takara and Liokaiser. That is a question that's been lingering in me for a couple days, now:
If Takara decides to make bank on Liokaiser, how will they execute the team? Release what we're seeing now, or go the extra mile(s) and make Deluxe-scaled Leozack and Jarugar, with some touch-ups on the regular-release limbs (such as differentiating Vortex further by giving him four rotor blades as opposed to two)?

Jelze was talking of generations, not CW in particular. Takara didnt release crosscut or jihaxus for instance (though I bet their deco would KILL for that later one).

I dont know. Reprolabels for the CW line havent been the best. They are odd and clash a lot with the modern aesthetic the alt modes are going for. And in the case of CW Ultra Magnus, the reprolabels were just to turn him into the Takara legends one and just buying the better painted Ultra Magnus would have come out cheaper (and he had paint instead of stickers). While reprolabels can help, it usually ends up costing quite a bit.

That's fair, I suppose a counter argument is that TT needed to make some extra

Perhaps, but, it's better this way - now everyone can get them both
