Hopefully when I have them all in hand I will be blown away by it, but just from watching this, I fear they will be left MISB to be sold later.
That's how I felt about CityCommander and then I finally had him in hand and man did he blow me away. That's the odd thing this stuff looks so cool on pictures but then you get them in hand and you just think to yourself "Damn am I glad I got this. I was tempted to get a second set of the Superion add on just so I could display the parts in their plastic tray.... But I go to my senses.
Thanks for the reviews omaga, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on these things soon.

I agree completely with this. I usually get buyer's regret with stuff that's usually small and costly, but not with the Shadow Commander and Superion upgrades.
Really you have to think about it this way, you are getting a few upgrade kits (Bruticus, Onslaught, Vortex, and Brawl) and two completely different figures, for a hundred bucks. The city commander trailers are a hundred now (or more), and they just upgrade. And you have the Superion upgrade for fifty bucks that just gives you... not really that much, although it really is worth it.

Let me know how that goes. I got enough to make a mini-series that I love to show off. Especially the one that goes from the back of my head to the bottom of my butt

Great review series on this set!
Just to let you know, Youtube recently upgraded the time limit cap for non-partner accounts to 15 minutes.

I didn't know that. Still, I like keeping them short. That way I don't ramble on and on. Just filmed one last video to finish it off.
Oh and thanks Seibertron for posting these.

Is there some phase where you make me break down and spend part of my Botcon savings on Bruticus for a majorly inflated price?
I just wanna know now ahead of time so that I know not to put that money in my savings account to begin with...

Having said all of that negative sounding ish, do not hesitate to buy. Don't get me wrong here, this set is as close to perfect as we can possibly expect. The engineering and combination of certain pieces had me smiling and thinking how clever these guys can really be. Every piece seems to have multiple purposes and I feel that you really get a lot of value for the asking price. It elevates a semi-decent combiner team to sky-high levels. I don't think I could possibly give a higher reccomendation (sp?). My niggles about the set are far outweighed by how impressive the complete package really is.

Flux Convoy wrote:This set is far and away, a much better product than the Superion set. However, I dislike how loose some of the connections are. Like the forearm piece(s) for Vortex, that should plug somehow instead of simply sliding on. Also, Blast-Offs' feet joints/hand peg are loose, so holding that huge sniper rifle straight is a test. The crotch piece, while it sits tightly, is too large to allow the upper thigh pieces much movement without being pretty careful. That should have been an early change, it's really my only big complaint about the set. The back cannon and finding the perfect alignment for it to peg in, isn't fun either though. Sadly, it seems that no matter what, combiners may never be as solid as I'd like.

My set is on it's way along with a hefty pile of loot. It's taking a strange route though and it's got me kind of worried

the playability is amazing w/ all the different things that you can do with all the accessories. I opened the boxes and went through all the different transformations and modes and before i knew it almost two hours had passed!
my only issues were attaching the FP bruticus head to onslaughts body...I got really frustrated for awhile but what i found that works is to actually take off the head from the base (it just pegs into the base) and just fiddle w/ it till it snaps on. some may be different but i actually shaved off a sliver of plastic on the "J" hook. after that it snapped on perfectly.
also, is everyone-elses brawl look different than what FP shows in they're instructions? the turret which is made up of his arms and head look to be further towards the front of the tank? I tried retransforming mine several times and could not get mine to look like that. It doesnt hinder anything it just looks off as its covering his knee pad.
overall this sucker is badass! now my poor classics devastator is looking silly and FansProject neglected!!

HA! i got it! I tried turning that earlier but since it didnt wana budge I didnt wana risk breaking it without being sure. thanks, he looks so much better now

The overall presentation is nice, heavy, and big. He's bigger than Superion with the add-on kit. He's broader with the new arm-connector configuration. I too don't like how the hand connector placement is. I already notice it kinda slides out a bit when doing any poses or adjustments. Yet it stays in place, intriguing. I have him next to my Snowman-Superlink Superion....he's now a head of Superion.
I would place the big gun in the Vortex hand, and place the sword in the Blast-off hand.
Now do I really like him, you bet your stars I do. More impressive than the Superion add-on. New figures and expansion parts remind me of resin add-on parts for Gundams, very freakin cool
So don't be a fool, it will add value to a now valuable piece.

I would also like to add the upgrade set works somewhat ok with the TFCC combiner set. The tank leg has to be kicked out and bent at the knee for it to work because it's just a tad longer than the plane leg module. Otherwise it looks decent, for mis-matching pieces color-wise.

On Bruticus' head module, when you click it in place and transform Onslaught into vehicle mode, make sure the head piece is turned sideways so the antennae fit between the arms. One of my antennae is already cracking at the base. I'm kicking myself like an idiot for not realizing this.
You're supposed to tilt the head so the antennas go inside the fist holes. It's what the instructions say.

Hmm. Now I have to decide which way I prefer the legs...I do like that alternate transformation. I also like the original. Decisions, decisions...
LiKwid wrote:I haven't seen the energon set so I took a pic with the snowman superion!..There were a couple of "HOLY S*&^" moments while transforming stuff , this set seems a tad on the brittle side but man once you get everything in the right spot it's awesome..Overall Im pleased with it but the purple chopper is hittin the paint shop soon...he sticks out a little too much for me...I had a helluva time getting the new head in place..The instructions say that it's supposed to "Snap" into place but I literally had to force it in.. The back cannon peice refuses to stay on bruticus' back especially when I try and pose him up but it looks so damn awesome that I can over look it..
Superion has now been put in his place....
*snipped*
Thank you for posting those pics. I have the Energon set and I can say he looks even better than I hoped he would! Excellent!
I see why the muted camo colors of the rerelease seem to fit the overall color scheme of the set, but I do like how Kickback stands out a bit.
Blackout's purple is a bit louder than I expected, and the Vortex redeco probably would fit better, but you know what? It looks good as is. I ain't gonna complain. This is the shiznit.

Guys the head comes off nice and easy much like City Commander..It pops on and off very nicely..When attaching the new head peice I reccomend just removing the head and then once the base is in place re-attach the head..
I might get another Munitioner though, I really like the hands Fp made and I wanna use them for another project Im creating

The Bruticus upgrade makes Superion upgrade look puny.
But having both combiners before I got both Upgrades and ROTF Bruticus was tall with the energon limbs than ROTF Superion anyway.
I like the way it looks on E-Bruticus, but Swindle's colors are a bit washed...not in a bad way, it's just the britghtness of the E-Bruticus limbs make it stand out more. I would use E-Barricade (onslught as the main body, and use E-Barawn, but keep ROTF Vortex and I think we have Bruticus.

Heh. Vortex and the Kickback repaint are gonna be hot sellers on eBay. I can see those two suckers going for a pretty penny, even without their Energon stars and accessories.
I'd like to get a Vortex to make my set complete, and I've no interest in replacing Kickback (the redeco is so boring and bland...) but it'll be too costly, I guarantee it.

Yes it does. But the antennae still cracked because following the directons put them under undue stress.
