Coming to us once again from PrimeVsPrime, we have a new review for an upcoming (though yet to be officially revealed) new figure, that of Studio Series 86 Leader Class Snarl. The fourth of the five Dinobots, Snarl is looking very accurate to his extremely brief appearance in the 1986 movie, and includes his sword as an accessory. His transformation, as PvP points out, is very reminiscent of his cartoon transformation, and includes some neat tricks. Check out some screenshots from the video, including comparisons with his most recent new figure, 2018's Power of the Primes Deluxe Class Snarl, as well as some sweet shots with the rest of the Dinobots released so far. And let's not forget the video itself!

Just like his G1 toy, the dino head splits in half when he's in robot mode. PvP's copy looks like it's got issues staying tabbed together.

I've bought and opened 2 of the dinobots. Fiddly pieces of crap! Joints loose. Floppy limbs. I won't be spending the money on another one. I'm staring at the brontosauraus head where my 3rd copy snapped off.

The only thing I don't like too much- as PvP mentioned- is that Slug and Sludge both have the gold looking heads and Snarl has that yellow-orange head. So they don't quite match in alt mode

Hell yeah Mohawk and LEADER TLK Megatron!
Let's hope they will not mess this Megs up. Forget the "fat" AoE leader. Take cues from the stellar voyager and iron out the kinks.

No he doesn't. The base figure just turns into his normal gun mode without the extra pieces

You are both saying the same thing.

How are we saying the same thing? Rodimus Prime says Shockwave needs his armor pieces to make an alt mode and I'm saying he doesn't.

Which altmode? Because Seige Shockwave have several.
No parts needed for the original G1 "submarine" (wink wink) mode.
Parts needed for that bad-ass Space Yamato style space battleship.

Well, that's what I mean. He does have an alt mode even without the armor. That just gives him a bigger alt mode but he doesn't need it.

This is all probably moot anyway because it's probably a Voyager of Bumblebee Shockwave

Probably the same as the core class, but bigger.

So they announced more RED figures. I think I've pretty much had it with that line. I've just been so disappointed with the shoddy materials they use for them. It hampers pretty much everything about the figures. It limits the articulation, it affects how crisp the details are in the sculpting, it affects how clearly the paint applies, everything. I'm not wasting any more time or money on these, unless they completely revamp the materials they use to make them, so they don't look and feel as if they were made out of old pencil erasers.

It's nice to see more of Leader Snarl. But he's not due out until the end of this year, right? It's crazy that a reviewer is somehow getting hold of finished product almost ten MONTHS before they're supposed to be available to the public. And Hasbro seems perfectly OK with this seemingly regular and ongoing arrangement. It certainly doesn't seem to be a 'secret', and apparently the reviewer is getting paid very well to do it. These early vids are being published openly, often months before Hasbro reveals the figures themselves. If Hasbro was at all concerned about these early leaks, one would think they would take measures to put a stop to it.

But having said that, I hope (based ON his review) that Hasbro takes some measures to make sure Snarl's dino head will tab together more securely. I have G1 Snarl still in my collection, and it has ALWAYS been a matter of frustration that his dino head just won't stop splitting in half. And I'm disappointed that the back plates, AND the sword, use soft plastic. None of the other leader dinobots used soft plastic on any of their parts, not even Slag's horns. It was all hard plastic. Why is Snarl suddenly getting the short end of the stick in that regard?

Hopefully Hasbro will at least use these early leaks to get feedback and fix those issues by beefing up the tabs to hold the dino head together, replacing the soft plastic with hard plastic, and using the same gold plastic for the dino head and legs. They could do all of that before the official release, seeing that Prime v. Prime has spilled the beans so early ;).

In case the TLK listing was wrong, I really wonder what will a SS86 leader Megatron will be?
Will they DARE make him transform into a gun?
Or will he still transform into a tank but this time around, ALL the tank kibbles will completely disappear from the bot mode?

Well, that is what the article said:
Now, please be read this attentively: the designation of the characters is said to be erroneous at times. Meaning that "MV6" can reffer to "86" as we saw with 86 Wheelie which was listed for vendor sites as "Transformers Generation Studio Series Core Tf7 Wheelie 5010994112134".

And the listing also labeled it as "MV6", not "MV5" like Mohawk, so it wouldn't have been TLK even if the listing wasn't wrong.

A SS86 Megatron would be a new mold, but still a tank.

Hasbro already said in one of their recent videos that Gun Megatron isn't happening.

Its highly unlikely to be BB movie, since he wasn't actually in the movie, not even in the scene most of these BB designs are coming from, and there's only a robot mode concept drawing for him.

It may be TLK, given that Mohawk is also a thing, and it may be SS-86.

Being SS-86, poses and interesting question. We know we are getting a Leader class Armada Megs in the not so distant future, and since SS-86 megs can't actually turn into a gun, he can be whatever they want. Could he possibly be a retool of Armada Megatron?

In regards to Snarl's crackhead, you'd think in the span of 38 years better technology would allow improvements. While it may be accurate, perhaps it shouldn't be if it means no crack?

Honestly, I really try not to draw any lines in the sand when it comes to TF. I mean I understand why any Generations, or new toy line Megatron will usually be a Tank. It is his modern "standard" alt mode.

However for SS86. If they cannot find some way to market it as an online exclusive collectable for adults (I mean parents could purchase for kids if they wanted). Make it mandatory to be 18+ to purchase in North America (as Japan and other nations have no issues with Megatron being a gun). But honestly, if they cannot do SS86 Megatron as an accurate to screen Walther P38, then they just shouldn't do it at all. It makes the whole meaning of "Studio Series" pointless if Megatron has a different alt mode from what was shown in TF:TM.

Which to ME means... SS86 Megatron can't happen. Its a shame, but it is, what it is.

IDEALLLLLLY, they should have a tiny gun mode Megatron pop out of the figure to represent his shrunk down alt mode.

All this means is that 1980s Hasbro should have never used any of the Micro Change Gun Robo toys for Transformers in the first place, and should have instead chosen a different, non-firearm-based toy to be the leader of the Decepticons. ;)

Unfortunately there was no way of knowing back in 1983 how irrational the western world would become. I agree that a Tank is an awesome alt mode for the Leader of the Evil Decepticons. But I also appreciate accuracy to the original fiction. I mean in the "Toys that made Us" documentary, Yukisan himself stated the Micro-Change Gun Robo was a heroic character as well ;) .

JelZe mentioned the Core class Kingdom toy coming with a teeny tiny one, though, which can be wielded by both Core class figures and larger figures.

The other recent gun mode Megatron accessory we've gotten from Hasbro is the one in the Selects Centurion accessory set.

It does include the removable silencer

It was NOT included with SS-86 Coronation Starscream which would have made sense, except he can't hold him very well with the new articulated hands.

That's why I said a tank Megatron, but all the tank kibble disappear from the bot mode. No backpack either.

If the Megs listing truly is for a SS86 Megs, just make him a gun but use the extra U.N.C.L.E. add on bits to disguise it as some form of "howitzer" ;)
Maybe the instructions could intentionally mistransform the alt-mode so it just looks like some """Cybertronian""" artillery emplacement, hmmm? :-P

Nah, just market it as a submarine

FYI, Hasbro stated a Megs 86 would be a tank.

R.E.D. Shockwave came with a mini-Megatron pistol accessory as well (although it was a limp, floppy rubber version). If you don't mind him always looking bent :). There was also the Centurion Drone accessory (even though, like Velocitron Cosmos, it was a vaporware release which only a few people could get hold of).

I think I'd be fine with a 'tank' version of G1 Megatron for the Studio Series 86 line, as long as the robot mode was more G1 accurate, and doesn't use that flat grey plastic. I'd like it to be silvery, like they did with CW Leader Megatron. What are the chances that they would just re-release WFC Earthrise Megatron? That was another figure that never seemed to turn up in stores, though it was available on Pulse for a long time.

I'm aware, just thinking of funny ways for HasTak to come up ways to give Megs a gun mode again. :-P
I'm one of those people that prefers Megs turning into a tank, really adds to the "military hardware" vibe of the Decepticon crew.

I wonder if its too late to tell the developers just... "Nope" -Dear Hasbro, if you want to release another Tank Megatron in Legacy, cool go for it. But if you were dead set on releasing as part of SS86, just save yourself the tooling budget and work on something else. We get it. We live in an illogical society where we cant have nice things. Star Wars fans cant have Slave Leia, and Transformers fans cant have an accurate transforming alt mode of the Original Megatron. Its unfortunate, but we get it. Just dont give us something that isn't right.

There's always the possibility of it being a triple changer and have an unaddressed third mode or a third mode, that's called something other than a gun.

SixShot anyone?
