As we announced in the review for Megatron yesterday, Seibertronian PrimeVsPrime has also uploaded a full video review of the Transformers Studio Series 12 Voyager class Brawl, taking on his incarnation from the 2007 live action movie (as the backdrop also shows) in which he was also mistakenly labelled as Devastator.

Check out the embedded clip below, featuring transformation, poses, and comparisons, and share your thoughts in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

Transformers Studio Series Brawl Review

In this review, I take yet another early look at the brand new Studio Series Voyager Class Brawl from Wave 2! I give you a detailed look at both the robot-mode, transformation, as well as the tank mode. I also compare the figure to a multitude of other Transformers including the 2007 Leader Class Brawl! Stay tuned for my next review of the Studio Series Jazz & Lockdown!

You know, looking at that shot of Brawl in the news post's thumbnail from a distance, it dawned on me that that SS Brawl's silhouette kinda reminds me of that of G1 Bruticus. Triangular-ish torso, thick chunky lower legs, twin back-mounted cannons pointing upward, heavily armed arms (kinda like Ruination's two big combined gun weapons). All he really needs is a more Bruticus-ish head and colors and he'd made a pretty decent non-Combiner Movieverse Bruticus (funky-colored tank mode notwithstanding). ;)

Maybe "Bruticus" was the wrong name he was supposed to have in stead of "Devastator"?

Just a couple pics for funsies and if you folk want to see comparisons and such.

Lockdown Vs Bumblebee (cos I follow Mark Ryan on Twitter, not just for Transformers but cos the ol' Robin of Sherwood show he was in from the 80's is one of my all time faves). Lockdown has a ton of really nice detail. The upper arms are a tad confusing cos they seem to be transformed differently in various stock photos and not 100% sure which is correct (I should probably just look at the instructions but I have fun transforming these without and both Jazz and Lockdown are very easy to change into cars and back). Also Lockdown has a chest piece you have to push out a bit from within the back to make his front a lil less flat. I didn't notice that when I first took photos but I got it now (makes a satisfying click sound too). Lockdown's face sculpt is superb. I did pose him with TLK Optimus Prime (to re-enact battle from end of AoE) and he's a bit short for that but eh it'll do fine for the cheapest option other than huge third party figures like Peru Kill and such.

Jazz and Grimlock. Just having fun posing the smallest figure in the line with the largest. Technically Grimlock should be even bigger than he is but whatcha gonna do... Jazz is tiny (as is accurate to the movie scale) but I'm finding him so much fun. :)

Here's the big question, though. Can Studio Series Jazz be separated at the waist so that Megatron can have two pieces of him instead of just one?

Not easily. All his joints in there are pinned. When I was first transforming him into car I couldn't figure out how to seperate it all (his car hood is sandwiched in there firmly) and I thought I was gonna break it which worried me but then made me think it would be accurate for that. :P

User NOTRAB on Chinese social media site weibo.com has taken some pictures of two new exclusive figures from China. Rusty Bumblebee and Camo Blackout are limited editon prizes for a Lucky Draw contest. Customers who purchased items from Hasbro China's TaoBao store on May the 15th were entered to win one these exclusive figures. NOTRAB seems to have won a Rusty Bumblebee. It appears to be inspired by how Bee looks in the first live action film when Sam Witwicky finds him at the used car lot. This Rusty Bumblebee is one of 300 figures. On the other hand there are only 88 Camo Blackouts made. Have a look below and tell us what you think of these figures. Would you want something like this in your country?

"Rusty" Bee looks pretty good, actually. It's a way better attempt at matching the look of his "junker" alt mode from the first movie than the 2007 toy was with it's weird blackwash paint apps. "Camo" Blackout just looks odd, though. Does he actually sport a camo pattern in the movie? If so, it's not that bright or contrasted.

Damn, once the contest is over, those will sell for a pretty premium.

both look pretty good. I do wish the rust was brought forward a little more in Bee's robot mode. While I do like the idea of camo on Blackout, i'm not sure which military that's mimicking that's not a US camo pattern I've seen before. The original release is already "low vis". If anything a sand camo would have made more sense (considering where the military base was in the movie).

That camo looks so awful I love it. I'd rather actually have that than the retail release figure! Bee looks really nice too. Too bad these will be EXPENSIVE on the after market. Maybe :HASBRO: could do some kind of exclusive release for these, or a figure that looks similar? Probably not.

Meh. The car mode looks properly neat, but almost none of the rusty detail carry over to the robot mode (pretty much just the doors). I'm quite alright not hunting down one of these likely insanely expensive exclusive.

Wow, I am actually pretty livid about how small Blackout is now. I heard that he was sort of small for a Leader class toy, but now actually seeing this.... uuuuuuuurrrrgh. I'll need some time to cool down from this. I was getting so sick of when Hasbro makes a big huge character into a toy that ends up smaller than or as big as the toy size class lower, like with 2007 blackout, or animated bulkhead, or ... I dunno, maybe it was just those two, but I'm mad, let me be mad over childen's toys! XD

Why can't they get his size right? I still kinda want him, because it's an awesome design. I was even able to look past the weird wrists, and the arm kibble. But now add this to it and I'm just so disappointed with everything on the planet.

Still getting that Megatron though.

The Studio Series is making consistent movie accurate scales for characters throughout all classes. If Blackout is bigger, then Grimmlock is gonna be gigantic.

Also I think it's classified as Leader class because of its details and complexity. Not just size. Look at Voyager Megatron; there's a giant hole in the middle. Lol

For what it's worth... This helicopter mode is absolutely MASSIVE (albeit hollow). As Toy_Spectre mentioned he's got a lot going on mechanically (panels the rotor assembly and how it splits, etc). Grimlock is absolutely massive, but he's a *lot* more mechanically straight forward

Well, in the movie, Optimus comes up to the middle of Grimlock's shin! So Grimlock SHOULD be huge! That would be awesome! I still want a larger Blackout though! >:I

I've got an exclusive, guys! It turns out this special edition "Camo" Blackout is even more than meets the eye! Hasbro has retooled him a little bit to sneak in a third mode! That's right, Camo Blackout just might be a triple changer, compared to the normal retail version. The third mode is extremely compact, compared to how the normal helicopter alt mode is expansive bot hollow in many parts. Take a look below:

Impressive, right? Man, it's going to be a pain finding one of these on the aftermarket!

Scale for the 2007 bots seems pretty good going by this image. We need a new Studio Ironhide to complete the Autobot team.

That's a Neo Geo pocket. In term of perfeormance, it's between the GBC and the GBA. It was not popular thus making the console and it's games relatively rare.

unless I'm thinking of a different "import handheld" during my High School years... it wasn't that they were "unpopular" just "prohibitively expensive" (compared to Gameboys at the time). Also... it catered to the arcade crowd, while everyone else was busy with pokemon.

Back on topic (so weird for me to be the one saying that. :P )

Jazz review by PrimeVsPrime. His one seems to have some very slight vehicle mode gaps mine doesn't. He seems very happy with the figure anyways.

I can't seem to get youtube video embed working today. Dunno why but here's direct link.

EDIT: OK figured it out by copying my previous embedding of his Megatron video and changing the codey bit to match.

Made a lil edit to my Jazz, adding silver sharpie to the panels hip/leg ball joints and either side of the neck and blackened the knee areas. I wish I could think of some way to get his spoiler up behind his head like on the previous figures but that may be impossible. Either way I love this lil shiny dude. Way more than his 2007 and HA figures. :)

I know its a long shot, but if they ever released a proper combining Optimus and Jetfire from Revenge of the Fallen (Voyager Size), or a proper Devastator, I might actually buy those.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again now. I really hope the Studio Series will last a few years, at least long enough to get all the major on-screen characters represented. I'm a little worried now hearing that Paramount has officially removed Transformers 7 from their release schedule and that the next movie in the franchise will be in a rebooted continuity. I'm eagerly anticipating picking up Studio Series Jazz, Lockdown, Megatron, and Brawl, but I'll be Devastator devastated if we don't get a lot more out of this line besides the few obligatory Bumblebee movie figures later this year. Here's hoping for some good news from SDCC (which is still a couple of months away at this point).

Studio Series Leader Jetfire, combining with SS Voyager Optimus Prime. THIS time, screen accurate, partsforming be damned!

Seriously, compare this:

That Jetfire/Optimus combination was such a cool moment, I'm really bummed RotF was really the only film to have that type of combining, minus Infernocus.

I am also in that Devastator boat. And also an awesome Jetfire/Optimus combination. I still keep those 2 leaders like that a lot, but would love something closer to the CGI

We have a pair of news for you tonight regarding the upcoming and fairly highly anticipated figure from the Studio Series Line: Jazz!

The first news we have for you is yet another video review from PrimeVsPrime, who has already done reviews for us of voyagers Brawl and Megatron. Here PrimeVsPrime gives us a great look at Jazz, who is a very small deluxe with some great talking points, such as the high amount of silver paint and the fairly awesome posability. You can check out his review below.

The second bit of news comes from the Transformers Facebook and Instagram accounts, which give us yet another look at Jazz, this time from one of the designers of the figure. The video goes briefly into the design process for Jazz, explaining how he is one of the favorites of this particular design engineer and how he came to be. You can check it out below the review.

Let us know what you think of this new deluxe Jazz below!

Jazz was the smallest Autobot in the first movie. Smaller than Bumblebee, even. He's supposed to be little.

I mostly just wish if he was going to be *that* small.... then they'd put some extra money in his paint... those thighs look so... bland. I'm on the fence with getting him (will probably cave if I see him in person). I loved the original deluxe design (and it's G1 repaint), but nothing can beat the Human Alliance version. I'm surprised that never got a "masterpiece" paint job.

I actually paid £7 more than his RRP and I feel no regrets (unlike with Grimlock). He's such a fun cool lil dude I've been playing with here on my desk a lot in the past couple days. He may be small but he feels solid and with that nice silver paint he feels premium (remember the premium version of 2007 Jazz that had silver paint instead of just being the bare dull cheap looking grey plastic?). He still feels a bit more complex in transformation than many larger deluxes in all recent TF lines too particularly in the torso area.

Bonus deal! We're getting half the deal for twice the price!

He is, indeed, an extremely small Deluxe. I don't know for sure if I'll pick him up if/when I see him - I'm starting to feel intrigued since everyone who has the toy seems to love it now - but at the same time, I also passed on Bee the one time I saw him because I felt like he was too small for the price, so... who knows. He'll be an impulse purchase if anything for me, but I'm glad those who have him thought he was worth it! :D

With that level of detailing and engineering AND paint, the size is pretty much irrelevant. Plus, it's IN SCALE. That may be the only SS deluxe I'll ever get. Even full price. ;)^

Now, only a MPM version is needed to beat the HA version.

I actually consider the SS figure superior to the HA. There's aspects of the HA version I never liked.. the awful legs for one thing. My only complaint with the SS is that backpack area, not so much the size of it but I wish the spoiler could have ended up behind his head like on the previous figures. I just really liked that look and can't figure out a way to mimic it on the SS.

Anyways onto his wave mate Lockdown (whom I also have) who now has a review from PrimeVsPrime

Easy to see the new Lockdown looks far superior in every way to the AoE figure. :)

I'm kinda bummed that they're already reusing the background imagines for the dioramas. I figured each figure would come with a wholly unique background. That's one of the big reasons I bought Studio Series Optimus Prime. I wanted to make sure I got to collect ALL of the different backdrops. I could have just waited to buy Studio Series Megatron instead. Oh well.

Personally I have not problem with how small he is. I feel the thing with his size is similar to what hasbro does with marvel legends. In a single wave of marvel legends you might get a smaller figure with fewer accessories but you also get a giant baf and maybe a larger normal release as well. Studio series may not have the baf but it does have some much larger figures for their size class, such as Leader Grimlock, voyager Starscrean, or Deluxe Ratchet.

Fellow Seibertronian PrimeVsPrime has once again reached out to us, and graced us with another video review for the Deluxe-class Lockdown from the second wave of Studio Series figures. Alongside posing and transformation, we get a great look at the extensive detail adorning his robot and vehicle modes, as well as comparisons to the previous Age of Extinction Deluxe Lockdown and the other Studio Series figures released so far.

Of course, we want to hear your opinions too! Do you have Lockdown yet too? If you do, let us know what you think of this toy by posting in the Energon Pub Forums - or if you've only seen the review, tell us what you're most anticipating about it!

In this review, I take yet another look at the latest entry into the Studio Series line, that being the Studio Series Lockdown! I showcase the figure in both his robot-mode as well as his vehicle-mode. I also show a step-by-step guide of how to transform him from his robot-bounty hunter mode to his Lamborghini Aventador alt-mode. This is the final figure that I shall be taking a look at this week as I have reviewed and collected all the Studio Series figures released thus far!

Man, that Lockdown is like night and day compared to the original. I was going to skip it, but after seeing those comparisons it's a HUGE improvement. May just pick it up.

The Brawl and Jazz videos, on the other hand, have enforced my decision to skip them. Both are just too tiny for their price point. Brawl doesn't look much bigger than the deluxe version from the first movie, and I think the first movie leader figure just suits him better. And Jazz is almost a scout class he's so small. No way I'm spending $20 on him when I already have the original deluxe and the HA versions.

Looks like a sizable improvement on the old Lockdown figure. The sculpting on him is top notch, but I’m still not sure if I’ll get him. At least not right away. Odds are I’ll just wait until HTS runs a good discount on figures to pick him and Jazz up. It’s nice that he has more articulation than I previously thought (had no idea he’d have an arm swivel and ankle joints), but no wrist and especially not waist articulation is a huge bummer. Not going to get any real dynamic poses out of him. On a personal level I think I would have preferred it if he had been a smallish voyager, similar to Prime.

Brawl and Megatron are immediate buys though. I had some reservations about Brawl when we got our first look at him, but he’s really grown on me. I get an almost Generations Darkmount/Straxus vibe off of him.

So far I think this line has been great. A couple minor misses, but mostly some fantastic hits. I’m just hoping that this line doesn’t end any time soon, because of the Movie universe getting a reboot after ‘Bee. I want more. It would be fantastic to see an updated voyager Shockwave, a redeco of Blackout as Grindor, the Constructicons, and definitely more dreadbot/vehicons. I want to build an army of uglies.

Basically I want many more Decepticons. :CON: .

Even if I have Peru Kill, that Lockdown is PERFECT for the regular Movie line. Seriously, the AoE original was complete garbage compared to the SS one. Much like the original AoE Grimlock leader. I got rid of both for that reason. Look like Jazz and Lockdown are the only two deluxes that I'll ever get for the SS line. That is, until they announce some unexpected extraordinary figures.

Not going to get any real dynamic poses out of him. On a personal level I think I would have preferred it if he had been a smallish voyager, similar to Prime.

He does actually have a waist joint! PrimeVsPrime doesn't find it until right before the transformation, but it's there :D

Oh, wow. That’s what I get for not watching the entire video. Thanks for the correction! That actually changes things quite a bit for me. I think Lockdown just moved up to a definite “buy” now.
