But isnt the price difference because these come with the extra titan master vehicle? Also, we have absolutely 0 indication of the Hasbro price so how can anyone know if this is truly more expensive?

My birthday is next week, so I should have enough money to afford them after that
And the special pre-order price on anime-export lasts till the 25th of March, so that's perfect :-D

Even if the deluxe figures went up to $20 a piece it would still be cheaper since the titan master/vehicle sets are going to be $5 a piece. And with buying both you get an extra head on top of it being cheaper.

Thats fair, I'm hoping its not above the 20$ price. Also, I like how with hasbro I can choose to save money if I dont want to buy the extra titanmaster vehicle.

I honestly don't think it'll reach $20 (toys r us excluded) they may be a bit more complex but nothing too extreme where I can see them really raising it. I expect it to stay between $15 and $17 USD

Leaving aside accuracy arguments I think I like the Japanese versions a bit better, except Galvatron. I prefer the darker Hasbro purple.

Does anyone think it's slightly wack that the titan master vehicles don't come with their intended masters? For the dino/bird dude/thing it completely voids out the dino mode. He'll have no lower jaw. What good is a dinosaur if it can't bite stuff?

(sorry, have a cold, and too sicky to look back at proper names and junk.)

I guess thats because he is only a weapon when the main figure is in robot mode and is used as such. But then in alt mode the head can join forces with the titan master vehicle/animal.

But still, I completely agree and this is something I had not thought of. Guess what, this cements things: I am sticking to hasbro for all TR deluxes which arent exclusive.

Well, except for Skullcruncher, I think I'll go with the Hasbro version. I like the use of black instead of brown on certain parts of Hardhead. It makes a better blending for the legs and vehicle mode. Plus I like Hardhead's toy head.

Galvatron, I like deep purple more than pale purple, so even though TT does a better job on the gray contrasts in some areas like the treads, I'll have to go with Hasbro.

But Skullcruncher, that red doesn't do it for me, I want that Takara pink!

I doubt it'll be cheaper in any way. You have to factor in that 1. It's Japanese. 2. Import costs 3. Different paint 4. Brand new heads. 5. Vehicles in exclusive colors.
Or given that almost always, TT versions have been more expensive than Hasbro releases.

Ohh, I didn't know that the vulture combines with another headmaster to form a reptile mode. That's kinda interesting. Now I like the inclusion of the small partners in this set even less.

But I still fancy the main figures! Wish that Skullcruncher could transform without excess parts though. That tail weapon is not elegant like Weirdwolf's tail/blade.

Ok, so now onto your point, yes as soon as you bring in import costs it will never be cheaper unless one lives in japan. For sure. But I tend to judge the toys in their own rights. As it might be more expensive for me, its not Takara's fault that I live in a country they dont distribute in and thus have to pay a higher fee. So I was judging the price more than the cost, which as you mention indeed will always be higher.

So yeah, Takara will almost* never be cheaper, but I just wonder if there are enough differences worth paying the extra importing cost. In this case I really dont feel its so. Much unlike Combiner Wars.

*Takara sometimes is cheaper when the actual hasbro counterpart is not sold in my country (Canada) which happened quite a bit last year. We never got Gen Arcee or the online exclusive combiner limbs Slingshot and Wildrider. it turned out that it was more expensive to import the Hasbro version from the states than the takara version from japan. And yeah, even if I buy all the Superion components minus Slingshot locally.

If anyone is wondering why the shadows are so smooth on galvatron, thats because he is digitally coloured. I believe quite a few of the other pics are too. Here is the original imges without the digital colouring.

So yeah, these are the planned colours but not necesarily the finished ones.

Not quite, as Galvatron in most continuities is Megatron, reborn through Unicron (go watch the 1986 Movie ;)). The little guy is called "Nucleon", and should be considered more of homage to the original Megatron, as well as a bit of an in-joke.

Hasbro usually goes for a much deeper purple than how Galvatron appeared on the cartoon or in the '86 movie. It's a match for the purple found on the original G1 toy, even though the color layout is much more based on his screen appearances. Takara likes to go for a lighter purple, but they go just a bit too light in most cases. It's a better match for Cyclonus' on screen appearance, honestly. This has been the case ever since Takara redecoed the original Galvatron toy for a reissue in the early 2000's. For some reason, they're convinced that light purple is THE definitive color for the crazy Decepticon despot. For what it's worth, I think the recent "Decepticons: Specialists" redeco of the Universe deluxe Galvatron mold is the closest purple we've gotten to Galvatron's G1 cartoon/movie look. Take a gander for yourselves:

Yep. That's Hasbro for you. The TOY is always the definitive version to them. All other media appearances are imperfect interpretations of their "original" vision for these characters, apparently.

Not for Sky Bye though. In that case Takara went with the dark blue that was remeniscent of the toy while Hasbro went for the more show accurate sky blue.

They did butcher the rest of that toy though.

Still makes me wonder what route TakaraTomy will take for them. The only instance in which Megatron and Galvatron were side-by-side (current IDW series aside) was in the Marvel comics via an alternate timeline. That Galvatron is now considered a separate entity, dubbed "Galvatron II" and is featured rather prominently in the eHobby comics.

The colors look nice on the Hardhead, but Galvatron needs to be darker. Love the extra detail to the heads too. Also a bummer about the titan master vehicles not coming with the intended partner.

Overall, Hasbro seems to be good and takara good as well. About equal maybe :MAXIMAL:

That's another weird case of Takara "over compensating" on the color too, but in the other direction. Though, having Legends "Gelshark" in hand and having had Generations Sky-Byte as well, I can tell you that the blue on the Takara version is not AS dark as in the stock photography floating around. Hasbro's blue is a little more anemic than Sky-Byte's RID 2001 cartoon appearance. Again, the true hue seems to be somewhere between what Hasbro has done and what Takara has done, it's just that this time, Takara seemed to skew more toy accurate with the tones of blue while Hasbro went more show accurate, but Takara's overall deco layout is much more show accurate.

I find it fascinating that these are being met with such lackluster enthusiasm, if not out right general dislike - for one reason or another.

I can't actually remember a time when a full wave of TT figures was met with a unanimous 'meh'; Whether it be colors, price for what you're getting, removing 'key components' (headmaster partners - lookin' at you not-crashbash), it seems like TT may have struck out entirely with a lot of people, and this is strange to me :-?

I actually like these Takara versions quite a bit. I appreciate the cartoon accurate heads for Hardhead and Skullcruncher. Hasbro's toy-accurate hard head isn't bad, but the Takara Skullcruncher head is just a superior sculpt all around, even if you disregard the toy versus cartoon argument. The colors for Skullcruncher are pretty much equivocal. Takara's layout is just a bit more screen accurate, but it's not that drastic, really. Hasbro has perhaps more screen accurate duller shades for Hardhead, but the brighter shades on Takara's version really pop nicely. Having the color matched Headmaster vehicles/weapons is also an enticing plus. Galvatron looks great, period, and the difference between the Hasbro and Takara versions in terms of paint apps are very minimal (but still present). I'm going to wait until some in hand pics surface to decide if I want to err on the side of dark purple with Hasbro or light purple with Takara. In the meantime, I have all three Takara offerings preordered to my TFSource stack. If, before August, I find Hasbro's Galvatron in store and fall in love with the purple, or we get more info about the possibility of the Takara head/titan masters coming out as "booster packs" in Hasbro markets to create the on screen looks for the deluxe Headmasters, I may cancel one or more of those Takara preorders.

Yeah, not sayin' they're bad, but, there's quite a bit more 'discussion' or trepidation than any of their other legends/uw releases, something I find quite interesting :-?

The fact that TT crashbash isn't capable of forming his dino mode is an immediate pass for me, and galvy looks weird in lilac and the brown isn't doing it for me with hardhead, but it is quaint that they include a vehicle for the titanmaster.

On an unrelated note, about 'nucleon' wasn't the premise of the line characters piloting big mecha of themselves? Like, that's the official premise via hasbro, so shouldn't nucleon actually be called megatron then?

I don't think it's that Takara struck out rather that Hasbro stepped it up so that there wasn't much for Takara to improve on.

Perhaps, I think TT needs to get galvy's color down properly, that lilac is really not helping him, but I like all of the hasbro ones more than TT's (especially Crashbash :x )

I don't think it is so much "meh" for the TT versions, they did a very good job. It's just Hasbro did a decent job on TR and people don't feel compelled to pay more (because of shipping) for the TT version.

That's okay, it's called 'discussion' for a reason, and I'm inclined to agree with you in that hasbro had the simple task of making thme look appropriate and they did so with aplomb, and people probably don't want ot pay import prices/fee's for these - especially if they know that they're going to have to double-dip on the titanmasters anyways :HEADHURTS:

I can't actually remember a time when a full wave of TT figures was met with a unanimous 'meh'; Whether it be colors, price for what you're getting, removing 'key components' (headmaster partners - lookin' at you not-crashbash), it seems like TT may have struck out entirely with a lot of people, and this is strange to me :-?

I don't think it is so much "meh" for the TT versions, they did a very good job. It's just Hasbro did a decent job on TR and people don't feel compelled to pay more (because of shipping) for the TT version.

EDIT: Sorry, I got pulled away and someone else typed mostly the same thing.

I really appreciate not having to pay import prices. I've been increasing my collection a lot the last year, picking up a lot of the one's I missed during the end of the 2000s and Henkei prices have been tough to fit into the budget then throw in UW Dev, Bruticus and Galvatron plus Shockwave. Being able to pick up the retail release and not feel disappointed is going to be nice!

Yeah, it's just a shame that hasbro's all but abandoned paint apps, as they do look very plain - even the TT one's :(

I loooove going against the majority. I think Takara's Galvatron is just epic and I've always said it...if you want the best then you gotta pay for the best...'nuff said! :VEHI:

Then you must not be remembering the Animated Line. Boy was Takara not the prodigal son on that one. It was either that the paint difference was minimal (just the white outline on the autobot symbol) or that the paint scheme was just hated. Here are 2 examples:

And worse was the Arms Micron line. Takara royally screwed up on it. The stickers replacing the paint apps was not liked by almost all fans and the fact that people were given inappropriate weapons and instead had extra holes to accommodate the microns was also disliked. Instead of Wheeljack being painted and having his two swords, he had no paint, only one odd looking sword, and holes all over his alt mode:

So Takara has gotten bigger "meh"s in the past.

Yes, it was called 'Generations' for a reason, when it came out it offered figures from various lines, BW, G1, comics, Armada... that was soon lost though, and the gen line blows for having done so >:oP

?? Generations is just a take all line that doesnt really have anything to do with anything. The Deluxe AOE toys were under generations and there were 2 years dedicated to the video game toys. Generations is just a catch all title with no real significance.

Really :-?

I didn't really follow the forums back then (getting ready for college and whatnot) glad to see this isn't their first strike-out

You can look back as far as G1 when they werent able to release Sky Lynx, who was a Hasbro exclusive. That must have sucked for so many Japanese fans.

Oh the shenanigans you could get into if this is the case Image

Takara versions of the headmasters are a go. I'm not too pleased with either Galvatron as he should have a bluish-tinge to his color scheme. SO my Mania King Vintage version is still on the shelf. Price be damned, as soon as HLJ puts up there preorders, its a go :KREMZEEK:

Or given that almost always, TT versions have been more expensive than Hasbro releases.

Firstly....

:michaelbay: :michaelbay: :michaelbay: ||||WELCOME|||| :michaelbay: :michaelbay: :michaelbay:

Same situation here in Switzerland. I have to import the toys either way, be it Hasbro or Takara. Most of them never make it to any stores, and even if they do eventually show up which is quite rare, they cost at least the same if not more, than importing them would cost.
And I found that importing from Japan tends to be cheaper than importing from the US (extremely high shipping cost) or the UK (bad exchange rate).

Hmm as nice as these colours are, I'll stick with hasbro, plus galvatron looks better with darker colours each time if you ask me. I'm surprised no one has kicked off about the fact that takara has kept galvy a headmaster ;-)

Though can't wait to see what the comics will be like with these guys in them.

We all knew that Takara couldnt work miracles. He cant transform with the head attached, Takara wasnt going to reinvent the wheel. And unlike say Devastator, these toys were designed by hasbro and not them.
