BIG NEWS for Beast Wars fans. After YEARS of teasing, Takara is finally releasing their Masterpiece Rattrap. He will be released in the MPG line which basically confirms that it's just a continuation of the MP line and not in any way different from it. We know it will be fully revealed with preorders in February in Japan and will have a September release. The Price point was also revealed: 15000 Yen. That's about $95 USD, and of course there will be changes in currency exchange till then along with probable discounts from Japanese retailers which could bring the price down by $20 before shipping.

Below are the only 2 images we have from Takara themselves, along with the list where we gathered all the information shared.

Took ‘em a while but they finally did it, they’re finally completing the OG Maximal crew. Definitely will try to get, as if I didn’t pay nearly half for his Thrilling 30 fig.

Here’s hoping that we start getting some more traction with the rest of the Beasties in the “new” MPG line.

Yes, it's a Diaclone/Macross collaboration figure based on some version of the Valkyrie.

I know a lot of people are probably looking forward to this one, for a host of reasons. But it's a hard pass for me. 90+ smackers for this? And from the photos I'd be surprised if it's even 'deluxe' sized. Super-duper engineering or not, that's too high a price for my liking...

If it's to be in scale with the other Beast Wars MPs, then I'd say it definitely needs to be smaller than a deluxe. Deluxe would be way too big.

We thank Sabrblade for letting us know of a slew of new official images of MPG-15 Masterpiece Rattrap. These images show that the pack peg on MP Primal will be used to affix Rattrap to his back. We even see that famous shot of them riding into action on Rhinox' back. We also see a shot of the Maximal team with Rattrap, which shows his scale. As with many of the previous Beast Wars MPs, the beast mode head on his chest in robot mode is a piece of fake kibble but it can be seen on the belly of the rat mode.

Interestingly, unlike the previous Beast Wars MPs that all used the naming convention of "Japanese name (Beast Wars)", this one isn't named "Rattle (Beast Wars)" but instead follows a naming convention similar to that of some of the G1 MPs, in that its name is "Cybertron Rattle".

He's pretty great, looking forward to getting him! At first I thought he had alternate red eyes for bot mode, but now I think he has a fake rat head that goes over the real one with just the ears poking out.

I love how they were able to articulate the tail without making it look like it's full of obvious joints or bendy.

Nice, I'll gladly get it once it comes out. Can't stop smiling at the thought that Optimus Primal and Rattrap riding Rhinox are now an official Combiner due to the rodent being part of the "Gattai" line :lol:

Well, this is a surprise. Hasbro Pulse put up their order page for this figure, and they didn't call it "Rattrap". They've actually kept the Japanese name as is, calling the figure Transformers MPG-15 Cybertron Rattle

Not only that, and I could be wrong on this, but looking closely at the rat mode's underbelly, I believe that's the fake rat head hiding in plain sight. If so, I'd say it's ingenious. I don't collect Beast Wars MPs, but I admire them from afar.

Before I take on Ginrai, I wanted to touch on Raiden.

I got an upgrade kit for him which completely replaces Kaen in the combined form while getting rid of a bunch of kibble and stabilizing him. It is cheating, but it has had a huge impact on him. while it doesn't solve all his problems, it does solve a bunch and allows my favorite trainbot to stand alone.

Which is good news to Kaen too, I love this little dumpy guy.

Now, onto Ginrai. I got the super version, and wow, he is nice. Simpler than I expected, but that is OK, he is actually fun to transform. also, he is super heavy, there is weight to him. I am greatly enjoying him so far.

MPG-09 MP Super Ginrai is a great figure. I customised mine to be full "toy" version. The normal bot is annoying to transform so I think I'll ever just do it once. But the super mode is a breeze. Also, I don't consider it a "Masterpiece." It is a "HASLAB-ish" "Generations toy. It feels like a high end Generations and is perfectly in scale with the current Generations and SS86n line. I like it. I'm looking forwards Godbomber to complete the package.

Proof that this is indeed in scale with Generations:
(ignore the misstransformed chest.)

I'll just use the accessories here. The rest will be boxwarmers.

Overall, very worth the 400$CAN. This is my "HASLAB" of the year.

He doesn't come with the extra head, hands or lightning effect parts of MPG-08. I was hoping they'd replace those with something interesting, but it looks like they just slightly reduced the price 2,000 JPY instead.

More or less, the combined form is about 12", though the trains themselves are more like Voyager height, about the size of a MP car (Prowl, Sideswipe, etc), hence all the parts that get made into kibble rather than incorporated properly.

From now on, I will order very sparingly from Amazon Japan because they charge the most expensive DHL shipping by default. This result in most things I'd order from over there costing between 40$ to 60$ (canadian) in shipping alone for a single thing.

So I'll stick with Mandarake and Hobby Search, who at least give the option of Air Small Packet.

Thankfully Rodimus was paid for due to either Amazon Japan now charging upfront for pre-orders or my card just charging outright instead of placing a hold. Amazon Japan's new policy is why I'm probably done with imports.

I still have preorders for them for T-Spark MPM Bee and MPG God Bomber, and I was not charged up front for either.

My Rodimus also just shipped, but was charged when he shipped

Those went up JUST before Amazon Japan changed their policies. I have God Bomber, GSC Granbird, and T-Spark King Exkiser POd and that might be it.

I've got MPM Bumblebee, Dramatic Capture Triple Takeover, Missing Link Sunstreaker and Cordon, God Bomber, Godzilla crossover Optimus and Megatron, Toyrise Burn Bravern, Exkiser, Toyrise Genesic GaoGaiGar, and and a hand full of S.H.Figuarts figures. All already paid for.

I use Amazon Japan because I can acess it from the Amazon app while those other sites aren't exactly mobile friendly.

MPG-17 Optimus Prime (Style Gen.)

Is that an MP version of Earthrise Optimus?? He even seems to have 5mm peg holes on his arms and Siege Prime's axe! This is pretty crazy. OK, so it's not really Earthrise Prime, it's a new reimagining for I guess a new "Style Generation" sub line of more articulated and complex figures at the smaller size, but it's interesting to see that some nods to War for Cybertron Trilogy in there.

I really wish that, if they are going to use parts from other Optimi, they would give him more than just the swords. The swords are cool, don't get me wrong, but I wish they would take in some other design cues, like moving the wheels, stacks, or doors a bit for instance.

This looks nice, but I am good with Optimi for now

Another teaser from Takara Tomy went out on X last night, this time for a mysterious new use of the Inferno mold, which has already been used for Grapple and Artfire, in the MPG line. The most obvious guess would be Hauler, the (sometimes) green version of Grapple which hasn't seen a Masterpiece release yet. What we can tell so far is that it features the alternate gun/nozzle hand, the chromed realistic truck front and a new flatter truck front we haven't seen before. What's really intriguing is the head sculpt, not just the face, but the entire head area, appears to be new and there's no sign of a crane or ladder on the back of the truck.

This guy is a real mystery, feel free to post your own theories in the Energon Pub forums!

BTW, other sites are saying it's definitely Hauler, but there's nothing on the tweet that indicates that's definitely true since no name was listed. He also isn't a straight up Grapple repaint, which would have been easy, and whatever is going on with the back of the truck. It's a little too inconsistent with Hauler to agree it's definitely him. Plus the hydraulic stabilizers on the back of his head are really throwing me off!

The green color has always irked us as he is always Grapple for us in Orange. The continuity of Hauler doesn't make sense, but he was a completely different figure, that wasn't Hook, that sided with the Autobots. Maybe he was miscoloured in the G1 episode. Irks us. Seems better in the Japanese continuity.
