Transformers: The Animated Movie on BluRay October 1st

The live action Transformers Movie may not be released on the Blu-Ray format, but it appears that the Animated version will be. Our very own sniper_samurai has passed along word of a play.com listing for a Blu-Ray release of the Animated Transformers Movie, to be released in the UK on the first of October. The artwork features the same artwork used for the recent Metrodome release of the film and will retail for approximately £14.99. Click here to order your copy.

I don't see the point in releasing an animated movie on Blueray or HD DVD. I've watch the new Special Edition of TFTM on a HDTV and I don't see how it could look better. Most cartoons aren't detailed enough to justify it.

I agree that the high def formats are wasted on movies originally done in much lower definition...

But I'll still wait till it comes out in HD-DVD and grab a copy anyway ;)

There are quite a few anime releases coming out on hi-def formats Akira, GitS 2: Innocence, Freedom, Wings of Honneamise, Dragon Ball Z and GitS:SAC Solid State Society to name a few. But I agree though that most American/ American funded Korean animation should be left far away from hi-def formats, there just not good enough video quality wise to justify the extra detail.

I wonder if this is being done as a thrown bone or compromise?

Concerning this coming out on Blu-Ray:

I'm not sure because this is a European release, but it would make sense in the US, since I believe Sony owns the rights to the animated movie now. Can't see Sony pushing things out on HDDVD :)

Nope only 3 regions with Blu-Ray, A, B and C
A= North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
B=Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand
C=India, Nepal, Mainland China, Pakistan, Russia, Central and South Asia.

Well, there's no point for TV cartoons(except recent HD ones), but anything that was shown theatrically, it should make a difference.

A lot of dvd releases of golden age cartoons have been severely compromised by compression artifacts and poorly applied DVNR restoration.

Yet another release on the 1986 movie released. Talk about over-saturating the market. The Special Edition version was only just released here in Australia, so I'm guessing it will be closer to Christmas before we get a release of it here.
