Oh man what an awesome episode!! Absolutely loving Smokescreen already! And please tell me someone else caught him calling Starscream "that stiletto heeled creep" when Team Prime mentioned him?!? I nearly fell over laughing!! Glad to see him cocky as hell, yet having trained with Alpha Trion, he used his brains to prove himself ... Well played indeed writers!

Gosh Bulkhead is such a hypocrite...

"A new autobot? And it's Wheeljack? Guys we need him to join!!"

"A new autobot? Need more members? Smokescreen? Stupid newbie who saved me team's life today!!"

Well at least that's how I see it anyways. GREAT Episode. Smokescreen is awesome and gets the title of my favorite member of Team Prime now. Nolan North is awesome at doing this kinda character, A+ to the Prime writers. Finally someone comes along and uses the relics!! God I cannot just get over how cool Smokescreen is! I'm glad he got the smarts from Alpha Trion because other wise we would have another Hot Rod/Hot Shot/Cheetor/BB incarnate. Again AMAZING EPISODE.

Return of the tap-dancing monkey.

Bulk's getting a workout.

How does Raf know that the Cybertronian vessel falling from the sky is specifically an escape pod?

Decepticon symbol being red is probably a coincidence and not a Shattered Glass reference.

Arcee: "All those Cons came out of one pod?"
Ratchet: "Humans refer to the phenomenon as a 'Clown Car.'"

Smokescreen make forest go boom.

Smokscreen is to Optimus as Blades was to Bumblebee. :D

DUDE! Elite Guard symbol! 8-)

ALPHA TRION MENTION!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

HALOGEN MENTION!!!! SO! MUCH! EXODUS! GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smokescreen's not so sure about Miko. I like this guy.

Smokescreen's backstory probably takes place right around or just immediately after the Great Exodus.

Heh heh, Starscream's web-surfing. And likes the monkey. :P

Looks like he was also able to successfully walk home and take off the Apex Armor too.

So Red Energon might increase one's speed.

Bulkhead feels like he's been replaced.

Ratchet: "Oh, don't tell me it's another Bumblebee site." -- We say the same thing about every toy store.

So, Red Energon is indeed a speed booster.

Starscream's talking to no one again.

Constructicon mention.

I am Iron Scream.

Ha! Smokescreen refers to Starscream as a "Stiletto-heeled creep".

Smokescreen's trying to take one of the Autobots' Iacon Relics. And it's one that he's familiar with.

Falcon PUNCH!

The phase shifter! Smokescreen used it to phase Starscream out of his armor! Dude may be hotheaded, but that was brilliant!

Welcome to the team, Smokescreen.

Though, Bulkhead now feels like an outcast.

No surprise. Nolan North is Smokescreen.

This episode was a LONG time coming. Really, REALLY hit home with everything. Action, emotions, character interactions, and a new guy with a seriously awesome personality. I mean it, this is the Autobot character I've been wanting to see in this show since the very beginning! Forget Bumblebee, Smokescreen is TOTALLY the kid-appeal character here. He is Transformers: Prime's answer to Beast Wars's Cheetor, and has SO much potential for character growth and maturity to come. They've finally brought in a character that kids can relate to, not just look up to. Compared to the rest of the gang, Smokescreen is a breath of fresh, youthful air. Bring him on, guys, bring him on. :D

So who else sees bulkhead stealing the apex armour and going off on his own...... And having his ass handed to him.

Starscream never fails to overestimate his own ability..... sound like anyone we just met? Though I'm so glad he is back!

For a two story tall alien robot Optimus Prime is very adapt at climbing and very nimble when in the heights.

I am seriously liking this Smokescreen character. He is young and eager and brash.

I knew I wasnt the only one who thought Starscream had Stilettos. good show, good show!

Also, it isnt the return of the tapdancing monkey, saberblade, its the debut. The first time it was: "Mars Cat Says! Take Me To Your Feeder!" And ratchet actually laughed.

If not from this show, the tap-dancing monkey does sound like it came form somewhere, as it seems very familiar. :-?

PLOT QUESTION(?): Smokescreen was captured by the Decepticons the same time at least some of the relics were.He was arguably on the same ship as the relics, or else in a ship of the same fleet (which perhaps went a different way to the relic ship, eg slave /prison planet or interrogation base). He escaped, began his journey to Earth/Unicron (storage facility) before the relics arrived, but when he got here, the relics had been around for so long that they're hidden, lost, buried, etc, (& spare Deceps had even been put on guard stasis). How did the Earthbound ship get here so fast? I get that Red Energon is confirmed as present on Earth, & allows Hyperspeed, but I don't get why his homing beacon locked onto Earth with a whole Decepticon empire closer to pick up the S.O.S.

Gotta say it's good to see a new Autobot, especially Smokescreen one of my 2 all time faves(we go WAY back- Trailbreaker, waiting for you now).

*Smokey is young, relatively untried. Fair enough. I'll have to digest the fact that this is not G1 on playback someday.

*Don't like his bot mode so much. Face is meh but will still buy.

*He is Elite Guard. Impressive. I'm proud of him.He doesn't mention squadmates at the fall of Iacon. Unrealistic, annoying, stupid to me. These writers never fail to frustrate me.

*He used the phase shifter to knock 'scream out of the Apex Armor. Big deal. I had already thought of that. The act is unbefitting for an Elite Guard 'Ta-daaa' action if I can think of it. (but then again it was the G1 Smokescreen Tech Spec that taught me how to think, so...boomerang!).Up side: Smoke can ID and use relics if not codes as well. Secondly, the phase shifter can pluck a relic straight out of the ground (or a hammer straight out of a vault) as I suspected. Pulling relics out of the ground will speed up mission time. Deadly Soundwave versus Wheeljack slugouts can (partially) be avoided from now on.

*An Elite Guard who stands tall & boasts after a victory rather than keep low & watch & listen for Snipers, last men & Soundwaves: Garbage. Writers, get real.

*Can expect constructicons and a widening Alpha Trion plot thread in the years to come. Hopin' to see Jazz alive & slammin as an Elite Guard Veteran some far off day. Would be proud to find Prowl, Ultra Magnus & Red Alert holed up with A3 & directing strategies & business.

*Smokey has all the traits to become a future Diversionary Tactician, and also 'the most devious, yet most trusted of all Autobots' as he was in G1. I would be extremely content to see him get that far in this timeline.

*Sorry Hot Shot, we were ready to welcome you, but you've been replaced.

More thoughts:

They saved the Wheeljack/Smokescreen meeting for another episode. For once, I can chime in rather that gripe and say 'good writing'. I'm looking forward to see it.

I seriously hope Smoke picks up his old school magnetic particle "Smokescreen" dispensers & stunt driving programs again. The particles used to stick to enemies & jam their sensors. One drive by & half the Vehicons & Insecticons present are blinded.

I get the feeling that most, if not all, of the relics had already been launched from Iacon by the time Smokescreen was captured. My guess is Smokescreen and what other defenders were there were tasked to delay the 'cons until they could launch whatever was left and encode the database. The 'cons obviously downloaded the Iacon database; they just haven't been able to crack whatever code was used - and given who the "master archivist" was, I would guess even Soundwave's going to have some issues cracking it.

G1 Smoketreader wrote:He escaped, began his journey to Earth/Unicron (storage facility) before the relics arrived, but when he got here, the relics had been around for so long that they're hidden, lost, buried, etc, (& spare Deceps had even been put on guard stasis). We have no idea how long Smokescreen was on that transport before he escaped - though, given the fact that he and whatever other prisoners were aboard were still in transit, probably not long. Still, we don't know how long he travelled in that pod before he landed on Earth. And it's possible the pod picked up the Nemesis' signal, which is why it appeared on Earh. The guards may have also come from the Nemesis; which explains where the Insecticons came from.

*He is Elite Guard. Impressive. I'm proud of him.He doesn't mention squadmates at the fall of Iacon. Unrealistic, annoying, stupid to me. These writers never fail to frustrate me.

He did mention he was the "last line of defense" - whether that was his own bragging or the truth (or both) is up for debate. He even mentioned that the "Elite Guard Academy" had become little more than a boot camp by the time he joined up.

Up side: Smoke can ID and use relics if not codes as well.

Well, it does give us someone other than Optimus on the 'bots' side who can identify Iacon artifacts. As for his codebreaking skills - we'll see if they match up to Optimus'. Then again, if Alpha Trion was the one to teach both Optimus and Smokescreen...

Secondly, the phase shifter can pluck a relic straight out of the ground (or a hammer straight out of a vault) as I suspected. Pulling relics out of the ground will speed up mission time. Deadly Soundwave versus Wheeljack slugouts can (partially) be avoided from now on.

Not much for drama though. And I doubt the 'bots will risk losing one of the Iacon artifacts to the 'cons, any more than the 'cons would risk losing that Hammer of Solus Prime.

An Elite Guard who stands tall & boasts after a victory rather than keep low & watch & listen for Snipers, last men & Soundwaves: Garbage. Writers, get real.

Smokescreen is essentially the Hot Rod, or perhaps more accurately, Cheetor, of this series. And as mentioned before, Smoke had said the Elite Guard training facility had become little more than a boot camp by the time he enlisted. One can only wonder how their training regime suffered at that point.

They saved the Wheeljack/Smokescreen meeting for another episode. For once, I can chime in rather that gripe and say 'good writing'. I'm looking forward to see it.

Maybe. We'll see. It's more likely we'll see how Smokescreen and Bulkhead will interact, especially since this episode hinted that Bulkhead was more than a little upset that he was "being replaced" with a new "kid."

Because, and it's been said many times, that Hasbro is putting Prime as TV series before a toyline. Meaning they could care less what goes on in the toyline, hell, their main toyline was released in 2012 when Prime first aired in 2010. They're focusing on the media of the games and cartoons, not the toys.

It makes no sense, because they are a toy company, but it's true. That's what they've been saying.

Cool episode. I like what they did with the Bulkhead drama, it's nice to see a new Autobot as well. The way he kicked Starscream out was cool, I can't wait to see Optimus kick butt in the Apex armor, although I couldn't help but wonder why the bots didn't take any relics on the trip to the red energon?

The way I see it, Bulkhead will be more likely to use the Apex Armor than Optimus. Bulk's the handicapped one and all.

And that's because none of the other Autobots are smart enough to actually use the relics. That's why I like Smokescreen, he's definitely going to be the Tactical Adversary of Team Prime.

I don't know if it is smart of them to use them. They could lose them to the cons as easily as Starscream did to the bots.

However, the only relic the Decepticons have in their possession that they can use is the Resonance Blaster. I think they should use them when they desperately need it, not at every single battle.

As was mentioned in another thread, we may see Knock Out using the Resonance Blaster in his fight with Starscream "Hard Knocks." We'll see.

I was thinking, however; I wonder how Heatwave from Rescue Bots would react to Team Prime welcoming Smokescreen into their ranks, when the former's practically been begging to join their ranks. Granted, Heatwave was trained to to be a rescuer while Smokescreen recieve military training, but you gotta wonder...

Rumor is it'll be a Takara only figure. It'll be a redeco of Knock Out. (We have no idea if any retooling will be done.) I'm not the biggest fan of that news...

Isn't it odd(if the above turns out to be true) that we aren't getting some major show characters as toys here in the USA? First breakdown now smokescreen, I mean common!

All true. They also said they'd be focusing on multimedia, as well. Saying they're becoming a multimedia company, not just toys. It's looking like it's going to be exactly what I thought it was... They'll end up quitting the toys to make money in the box office and on the airwaves and if we want our merchandise, we can either import, or go pound salt.

Or, we might get lucky and a 3rd party (by that, I mean a company such as Bandai, not FansProject) could win the rights to produce the toys. I know it sounds silly to even say such a thing, right now, but I could see Hasbro either cutting toys altogether, or hiring a 3rd party to produce the toys for them and keep on truckin'.

Kinda like how Saban owns Power Rangers, but produces none of the toys. Bandai carries that burden. (Not the best example, but it at least gives you an idea of what I'm trying to say.) Hasbro owns Transformers, but could end up not producing a single toy.

This confirms a rumor I heard on a private forum. A poster there (well known) said he had heard that we wouldn't see toys of all the characters because the cost of the show was so high and it was their main focus and that it would be possible that we might not get the entire cast as toys. Looks like he was right.

Dang it.

Hmmmm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand I love tf toys. On the other I love the tf media as well. I guess if I had to choose I'd pick media over toys. But I'd rather not have to.

I for one rather despise that concept. I like having the entire cast of a Transformers cartoon, comic, or movie in hand (that's the one thing I didn't like about ROTF, Animated, and DOTM, although I stopped watching Animated about half-way into Season 2, and around that time pretty much every character had a toy).

If I can't have an official toy of Insecticon, Shockwave, Vehicon Miner (I know, that's just obsessive right there), or Smokescreen (or one that doesn't suck. I'm still holding out to see how this KO repaint/retool/re-engineering will turn out), I might just have to turn to 3rd party or make a custom my damn self. It's rather sad when you're forced to do this :-( .

Exactly. Hasbro wants to be able to have their cake and eat it too. Problem is, that's not how it works.

They don't want 3rd parties to exist, yet they won't give us (and kids) what we want. Okay, so they can't give us a Maketoys Giant style Devastator. I'll give them that one. But they cut Breakdown out? Really? One of the main cast characters? And now, Smokescreen is possibly just a straight repaint of Knock Out, with a remolded head? (If we're lucky.)

Some things, I'll admit, Hasbro has trouble making happen. Some things, they NEED to make happen. There wouldn't be a market for 3rd party items if they'd actually give a damn, and they don't.

I know they can't make every figure we've ever wanted, but instead of making a Skyquake figure, since he was only in two episodes and one of them he's a zombie, why not put that money into Breakdown?

I've noticed something... I think Breakdown WAS going to be a Hasbro release. On FOC Jazz, if you look at the back of his legs, they're hollow and have what I call a waffling design. Breakdown and Dreadwing have this as well. The limbs aren't fully sealed, they're hollowed out and have a waffle like design. Plus thinner plastics, plus less pins and screws. A lot of things snap in place.

But, if you look at previous PRID offerings and Takara's exclusive Jet Vehicon (which we knew wasn't coming to the US, pretty much from the get go), there's a world of difference.

The Jet Vehicon has solid limbs and body parts. His weight (as a Deluxe) rivals that of Breakdown (a Voyager). Jet Vehicon doesn't feel hollow, not one bit. His weight is more akin to F.E. Bulkhead, actually. Breakdown is significantly lighter than Bulkhead, weight wise. (I'm not kidding.) Has pins, screws and nothing but ball joints snap onto this guy. He's clearly a Takara creation, through and through. (Yes, I realize his core robot is based on Hasbro's Vehicon. Which is why I said previous PRID offerings.)

But Breakdown? He doesn't feel like a Takara figure, at all. Even with the Micron ports, he doesn't feel like a Takara figure. He feels like a revised production Hasbro figure. So, it leads me to believe that Hasbro had the tooling done, then couldn't afford him in their budget and cut him. Takara, on the other hand, had already spent money putting the tooling out for production, plus it was a ready to go mold, and it was a figure everyone wanted, so *BOOM* Here he is. I think if Takara had made him, he'd have been more solid and hefty.

Another good example... Masterpiece Thundercracker at TRU, right now. TJ Duckett did a video review of him, and he said the plastic is thin and you can see in the video where pins have been removed in favor of snap together segments, much like the PRID toys. Which worries me about Optimus V.2 when it comes out. Hasbro is clearly cutting corners. Takara, last I checked, does not. They cater more to the collector, and then kids, whereas it's in reverse here.

I can't be the only one who's noticed this. I just can't be. Someone else had to look at Breakdown and think "Yeah, this was the US version and we just got shafted into importing it."

The quality between companies is astounding. Don't get me wrong, I love my Breakdown, but the Jet Vehicon is much more solid and feels like a real Transformer. Breakdown feels like a model, in some ways. Both in how it comes together and the materials used. It really does feel like model plastic in some spots. (Ridiculous, given the asking price.)

I have a feeling I'll end up being right (and no, it's not an ego thing, I'm not patting myself on the back.) and I really don't want to be. I want so badly to be wrong, on this one. I want this to just be a passing phase to make ends meet and when they rebound, return to classic TF toy making with quality materials and designs. But, if I'm right, then this is just the beginning of "Aww. This is pure crap. It's totes gonna break..."
