Welcome to the latest episode of the Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast. Transformers: The Last Knight is out now, so join host Scotty P as he hangs out with a merry band that includes Twincast Pros Megatronus, Rotorstorm, Seibertron, Tigertrack, Razorclaw0000, and Mr. Starscream for a discussion of the movie. Did we love it? Should you watch it? You know how to start answering these questions, but just in case you don't, here's how to download:

Episode #178 "The Last Knight: A Twincast Review" is available directly and in our RSS Feed, and should appear on iTunes, Google Play, and Stitcher Radio within 24 to 48 hours of when you see this news post.

Massive big spoiler warning!

Don't listen to the show until you've watched the movie if you don't want to be spoiled!

Unicron. There, we told you there'd be spoilers. The crew discusses their theater experience - or lack thereof - along with their preferred format. Who went to a special Kabam showing? Who got Optimus Prime Time perks? Did we go for the immersive IMAX experience, and will we go back for a second viewing?

Image
Thanks for the gif, Kabam!

Seibertron gives us on overview of his red carpet experience in Chicago: the stars, the lights, the interviews, and of course, the afterparty. Being press never felt so good. You can find the full gallery of the event here, and Seibertron's summary of the event here.

Who's that handsome fella??

We kick off our discussion of the actual movie with, well, the beginning of the movie. We examine the Arthurian opening battle, which sets the tone for the rest of the movie. Is there a Gaelic translation for Bayhem?

Image
Robots. Knights. Robot Knights. This movie has everything.

The crew can't talk about The Last Knight without talking about Quintessa, MacGuffins, and their relationship to the aligned continuity. Is the integration of ideas from across the Transformers multiverse a welcome addition to the Bayverse? Oh, do we have thoughts.

Image
Solus, is that you?

Cogman. Squeeks. Hot Rod. Baby Dinobots? We discuss each addition to the Transformers movieverse roster, and come to a rare consensus: Cogman may very well be the best thing about this movie. Also, we love headmasters.

Image
Seriously. Our hero.

We finally return to the Unicron question - and where the movie franchise can (im)possibly go from that revelation. We also dive deep into what isn't said. Is Megatron just Galvatron? Has he been resurrected from his severed head in the previous movie? Don't think too hard about it.

Image
You, uh, got a little schmutz on your face there, buddy.

The crew wraps up with some final thoughts. How do we rate The Last Knight compared to the previous Michael Bay TF films? What stuck with us? What are we looking forward to as we forge ahead into this brave, new, post-The Last Knight world? ONWARD TO THE BUMBLEBEE MOVIE!

Image
Sting like a literal bee.

Having initially made it as far as the spoiler warning before deciding to add it to my mp3 player, right now the biggest shocker would be if it was actually a good movie.

My best guess is that the watch was a Jaeger. :michaelbay: "The only one that transformed in no time"

I disliked this one A LOT. It is in too many ways the worst one, which is a real shame because it's also the first film to seriously use and play with existing TF mythology.

The worst part is how badly any discussion on these movies go on forums. I broke and vented hard on FB yesterday; not so much at my frustration at the film, but my frustration on how horribly any attempt at discussion can go. Neither side of the fence is seemingly willing to grow up. :-( And as such, these movies never will.

Almost every time I see a 3D movie for the most part I feel like I'm just seeing a 2D movie I paid 6 bucks extra for.

I feel the same way - a silly gimmick to take in extra cash over already absurd admission prices.

Yeah maybe once so a movie that had a lot of 3D moments

Movie tickets are at the point now where I'm more likely to buy a new release BluRay of something I've never seen. $34 for two people with no pause button and someone's terrible children kicking my seat, or $23 to enjoy from the couch = easy call.

I'm going through this as I work and avoid typhoons, but wanted to drop in new piece that just came up in the feed, on editing this movie!

I'm clearly not the audience for that because it was a jumble of repetitive, say-nothing sentences and editing geek terms I don't understand. Maybe that explains the movie a little though?

Yay! ScottyP thinks I'm awesome for listening to this without watching the movie! TWINCAST APPROVAL

I had a number of comments, but I've been listening on and off while travelling and cycling to and from work, so a lot of them have gone, sorry. I always like to hear Mr Starscream's enraged trail-offs (and the Wilhelm Scream comment - I approve and agree), and the joke that got everyone laughing was good - I can't remember it, but it was good. And the Noah's Ark/Seaspray comment by Ryan, nice.

Oh wait! The TFvJ Scotty/Starscream moment! That one! Great timing. :D
(EDIT: and the Peter Cullen 'been a bad guy for last five movies' quip)

I've seen a lot around the internet about the anti-intellectual points that can be found in the movie, and it's disappointing - if not unsurprising - to see it.

Also, regarding the genre issue (was that this episode, or a previous one? sorry if I mixed two up) of where this franchise sorta fits, I thought this was a good discussion of it:

(And the end credits of the next clip in the series has a song xRotorstormx will appreciate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMfV7S5hfUo )

Pain&Gain should be seen by anyone and everyone. It's Michael Bay at his best, the demolition of the American Dream narrative, written by Markus and McFeely (the people behind Winter Soldier, among others), featuring Mackie, Wahlberg's abs and arms, The Rock, and probably more than what Bay intended to put into the movie as a critique of his own type of work ('I've watched a lot of movies, I know how this works'). It's such a glorious dissonance in style vs subject matter. Amazing.

Oh! Additional point: the Cuba scenes were actually shot in Cuba, as our very first news about the movie production told us!

Yeah Pain and Gain caught me off guard in how good it was. We had to buy the Blu-Ray twice because my wife's mom kept the copy she "borrowed"
