I am curious too, Canada doesnt have this option for some reason.

Looks like for Amazon, you get a brand specific brown box with the figures inside versus the actual box packaged inside a generic Amazon box. Seems good from a buying a toy for a kid perspective, bad from a collector perspective.

It is now available on Amazon.com. It was previously available on Amazon.ca for around $80 USD but this American listing is even cheaper than that, with a price of $74.99 USD. That is the price for the frustrating free packaging, standard packaging will cost $ 94.95 USD. Will any of you be picking it up? let us know!
I'm going think really hard about it. This is probably the only platinum set that has piqued my interest and that seems like a reasonable price, considering how much those platty sets retail for.

I like amazon's frustration free packaging on other stuff, but I feel that part of the allure to these special sets is the neat-o burrito packaging. I can only imagine that the brown box will lower any future re-sell amounts/value :-?

To answer what is the dealio with the frustration free packaging, its just a boring box with just more cardboard supporting the figures with the tied down. Think the way CW Devy was packaged, only with out color and graphics on the outside.

As a crazy collector type person, I'm torn. :HEADHURTS:

I wouldn't buy this set without the awesome box. Really, that's the only reason I want ANY of these TF:TM Platinum sets. I have the figures already but I don't have those awesome boxes!

Yeah, the packaging has at least some value to a lot of people including me, probably moreso with these Platinum sets. I would be very tempted to get this for $75 if it was in the standard packaging. But they'll have to come down for me to choose the brown amazon packaging.

It's also interesting that the standard packaging option, which is much more expensive, is not sold directly by Amazon. Hopefully Amazon itself gets in some standard packaging units too.

I don't know were this would go but it said Platinum set so...

I was looking for Fort Max at Myer again and he wasn't there, spoke to the cashier about him and she said a collector (I think scalper) came in and bought them both for full price. She let me check the computer for availability in other places in Australia, but the most interesting thing wasn't about how much they had in stock at Melbourne. It was what was in the related searches.

TRA GENERATIONS PLATINUM EDITION Liokaiser Combiner

The title probably isn't that accurate from what I saw on the computer. (They get really specific) But still, interesting...

I don't think this is news, we know that it's coming, and as a box set like all the other ones, and as his cross-sell made no mention of being a 'Platinum', I would think that it might be a typo.

Well all I knew was the CW Combiner, didn't know they would be reissuing the G1 combiner.

Who's saying that? I'm saying it's likely the cw boxset listed incorrectly. If they are releasing the g1 set, we have not heard anything about it. Until then, assume it's a typo in the system.

We technically haven't been officially told that the CW-molded Liokaiser would be sold under the Generations Combiners Wars label. We just assumed that it would based on there being so many other boxed set combiners coming out under that label: G2 Superion, G2 Menasor, G2 Bruticus, Victorion, Computron, etc.

But let's also remember that the only cross-sell we saw for Liokaiser was on the Platinum Edition Autobot Heroes set. Unless Platinum Edition packaging cross-sells advertise toys of other non-Platinum Edition lines, this coupled with the new computer listing would be good indicators that Liokaiser very well might be a Platinum Edition release instead of a Combiner Wars boxed set.

Well that's incredibly frustrating. Liokaiser's doomed to extremely large prices no matter what, huh.
Bet you guys anything that if this is true the Takara version will be cheaper.

Alright, that's fair then, guess that would make it a platinum edition set then, seems fitting I guess, if he really comes with several arms microns too. Has the price been listed anywhere?

Officially speaking, the cross-sell seen on the Autobot Heroes set at BotCon is the first official venue that has even indicated this toy's existence.

I was wondering if the list price had come up in the computers like computrons did, but now that I think on it, the art was the official rumor, then the cross-sell and that's it, guess not. Do you think the price would be higher than $100? And what store do you think would get it, and would hts get it (I don't remember if they got any of the other platinum sets, but I don't think that they did...)

Simple: just "Generations", like all the others. ;) The real question is "Is it a Platinum Edition", or a regular "Combiner Wars" release (remember, "Platinum Edition" is no longer a line in and of itself, starting with AoE)

If you ask me, it'll be the former: not only has Combiner Wars effectively ended, but Liokaiser doesn't really fit the overall norm of G1 Combiner. Not everyone would know him, he is more niche and more fit as a special release, even more than Computron.

by the by Do Platinum Editions have their own separate budget? I'm asking because I can imagine between regular releases and exclusives, Computron may have exhausted the CW one. Relocating Liokaiser to Platinum may free up the funds for the retooling he needs (4 to 5 new heads vs. 3 redecos, 2 sets of alternate parts, and unique hands and feet. Which would cost more?).

Good morning Seibertron! Thanks to Facebookers Pak Wai Tsang and Calvin Chan we have some in hand shots of Transformers Platinum Edition "Armada of Cyclonus" box set! Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original animated Transformers: The Movie, this set homages the scene where Unicron reformats the discarded Decepticon's into Galvatron's minions: Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps. Figures dedicated to this scene have been done before, but what's unique to this set however is the brand new head sculpt on the Sweep (which is basically a fresh shaved Scourge). See the inspiring set below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com: home for the best Galleries and Conversation around!

GOOD NEWS

The Frustration free packaging option means you still get the fancy Platinum box :KREMZEEK:

There is a difference to the standard packaging though, here is a statement from a tfw board member:

I received my set today, and wanted to clarify what "Frustration-Free Packaging" apparently means in this particular case. The good news is, you DO get the five panel box despite Amazon's indication to contrary. The bad news is it comes in a fitted outer cardboard box with NO PADDING WHATSOEVER. No protection from bumps, dings, crushing or piercing. I have a slightly crushed upper left corner, but I genuinely consider myself lucky that is all the damage that occurred.

Yeah and he is very disrespectful and ayone quoting that wishing it was their own words is badly misinformed.

The frustation free packaging is not a replacement to the other amazon packaging. It is a replacement for the nice packaging with twist ties, tape and all that. What is usually is, is just a brown box and when you open it you get your items directly, they are not in their own packaging in the box. The reason you and the rude TFW person didnt get that (nor even tried to udnerstand) is because it is very backwards here. Even though they used frustration free packaging, they still kept the toys in their original box, which shouldnt be the case. But thats good news to colelctors who wanted the box.

Look at the picture below to better udnerstand and not jump to conclusions like others have before you, insulting general consumers:
