Since we were talking about best
Megatron figure in the last five years, what is the best Soundwave figure we've had (not counting Masterpieces and third party offerings) in the last five years?

I'd rank them as such:
WfC Soundwave is the best for sure
FoC Soundwave/Animated Soundwave, both very good in their own ways
TFPrime Soundwave, for the different flavor
I'd LOVE to add Dotm Soundwave on here...somewhere...but y'know. SOMEBODY didn't bother to distribute him here.

Well, like most things, it depends on canon.
My personal favorite is also Generations WFC deluxe Soundwave, but the SDCC reissue of G1 Soundwave with Ravage, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, and Ratbat is probably the best Soundwave overall in the last five years. Good luck finding it for less than $200 these days tho.

Does that really COUNT though?

It's G1 Soundwave. I think the spirit of the question is new molds from the past five years, yeah?

Well, Alex only excluded MP and 3rd party. Otherwise the obvious answer would be MP Soundwave, which is also G1 Soundwave.
But if I can't utilize both a deluxe and a voyager scale there, I'd probably say
Prime deluxe Soundwave would be next, below WFC Soundwave.

No MP's? Well then, that leaves me with Human Alliance. Or DoTM Deluxe.

Fall Of Cybertron Soundwave by a mile. He's a good size, a great homage to the original, and he can store minions.
Runner-up is Animated Soundwave. Laserbeak as a guitar and Ratbat as a keytar? Hell yes.
The WFC Deluxe Soundwave isn't a bad figure; but he has no minions and he's rendered pretty much moot by the introduction of the FOC Voyager.
The movie Soundwaves all have various issues. The ROTF one is just kind of a mess. The DOTM Deluxe is decent; but he's got a ridiculous MechTech weapon instead of Laserbeak. The Human Alliance figure has a decent Laserbeak; but it suffers from an awkward transformation, poorly done feet, and being generally smaller than previous HA figures. And there's the fact that neither of the DOTM versions were released in the US.

G1 mold Soundwave =/= MP mold soundwave!

And yes, I know you're just screwing with me.

When did Device Label Soundwave come out? If it's in that timespan, then it's definitely #1 for me. Perfect for the Classics shelf (with some ReproLabels

).
Infiltration Soundwave (movie) is one of my favorites just because I really dig the mold's bot mode and the color scheme looks wicked (though he's not quite 'Soundwave' to me and reminds me more of a strange Beast Wars figure

).
WfC Soundwave of course, is most excellent. I don't have the FoC version yet so I can't really say on that one.

I like TFP Soundwave, it's such an interesting take on the character.

Why exclude MP Soundwave? Because he would be the favorite? Isn't that the point of this thread?

There hasn't(IMO) been a good Soundwave fig in the past 5 years. They all fail in one regard or the the other. They just don't ever really capture the essence of what Soundwave really is.
Prime came close with the drone concept but he's more personal than that in his intent. The charm of his character is getting in really close and gaining intimate/confidential information and intel. They really need to find a different alt mode for him other than a car, satellite or a drone.
But to answer the question i'd say Prime Soundwave is the best in the past 5 years.......begrudgingly.
To be truly honest though. The only "good" soundwaves are G1 and Mp. The rest are a waste of time and money.

I agree, but unfortunately I think it's just a BIT outside the noted timeframe... unless you count the Blaster Black version I think.

I love the concept of Prime Soundwave. I think a spy drone is the perfect alt mode for a 21st century Soundwave. Unfortunately, the bot mode is kinda crappy. It's all skinny and looks nothing like G1 Soundwave. And its too small.
I'd have to give my vote to
FoC Soundwave. I like that his bot mode looks like what Soundwave should look like. I like that he's big, has big chunky limbs, and a simple transformation. I'm not crazy about the data disks, but at least they carry on the concept of the cassettes.

It wouldn't be a very interesting conversation if everyone just said "MP". We're basically talking about which SW is the 2nd best.

Do you not understand the concept of conversation, or the point of an online forum? The point of a thread like this is to talk about different versions of the character and share opinions. It's interesting to hear other people's opinions on different versions of Soundwave.

yeah but you wont let us talk about masterpiece, and please drop the snarky attitude. i was just discussing and relaying my feelings... which is exactly what you said should be done here... if you dont like my opinion then ignore me. i personally dont like your gestapo tactics... and again what you said is only your opinion, just because you find it interesting doesnt mean we all do... i basically should of said i dont like your close minded approach of only 5 yrs and cant discuss masterpiece... grow up. also dont belittle people like assuming i dont understand how to have a conversation!!!

I don't think he is the Original poster of this topic...
Anyway my vote goes to Prime Soundwave.

I like the Prime version. Have the G1 (reissue) as my Classics SW, but mainly because I missed out on Device Label. Prime doesn't seem anything like the same guy really, but I do like him and the toy is a great version of his cartoon model. Animated did okay too. Wasn't impressed by the Bayformers version, but then I rarely am. WFC/FOC is the closest to the character I grew up with and the Data Disk gimmick seemed like a cool idea. He's not the same without his minions. It's just the execution of the idea, and the lack of availability that mean I don't have it.
I'll probably eventually get the Hasbro MP (even though I'm getting the TT tapes. Got Black/Red Guy and Ravage today!) just to have him, but he's far too big to go with most of my collection and I'm not keen on upsizing everything.

It was hard for me to like the Prime version of Soundwave, but the concept of the reaper drone grew in me after awhile.
But I'd have to say this is how I'd put it:
1) WFC: Overall I think the WFC mold takes the cake (*cough* behind MP *cough*) because it was one of the easiest figures for me to find, was cheaper, and had the least amount of flaws IMO.
2) FoC: good mold, awesome minion function, but the alt mode suffered and the issue with back kibble bugged me.
3) Prime: Really cool take in the character, but suffered from bad engineering below the waist.
4) RotF: he was a good homage, but had a weird transformation and awkward arms.
5) Dotm: DIDN'T EVEN GET DISTRIBUTED
